Happy B-day Dave, Obes and Brainer. "Life is full of danger, so why be afraid?" drenaline
  2. Dude don't leave us, you had some funny posts! "Life is full of danger, so why be afraid?" drenaline
  3. Congrats Dude. 2 cases? wanna come jump in Panama?
  4. Just a thought, don't take it as a flame, but maybe its better for you to get a used RW suit (square1 has used stuff that can fit) and learn the belly before doing the free. But its just a thought you are free to use/buy/jump whateva makes you happy. "Life is full of danger, so why be afraid?" drenaline
  5. About the cypress been fired while landing, well the cypres user's guide says that you should inform the jump pilot about the cypres and how it works and if the pilot says that he cannot comply with the requirements or you know that he will not do it even if he says yes, then you should switch the cypres off. Am talking about expert cypres, I know nothing about student one but I think is the same thing, if he cannot make the decent at the proper speed then switch it off. Just in case: Remember to switch it back on after landing, if you are going to jump again. "Life is full of danger, so why be afraid?" drenaline
  6. Are you sure? The Cypress manual says another thing and I quote: "The manual switch-off sequence is the same as the switch-on procedure. Again, this routine is designed to avoid accidental deactivation." Cypress user's guide, page 19, last paragraph. "Life is full of danger, so why be afraid?" drenaline
  7. Congrats again. Hey what about giving the article to HH so he can put it in the DZ safety section? Now THAT will make you popular with the girls.
  8. Desiderata was the only good thing that I learned from my literature teacher. I hated that subject.
  9. You say before it pulled the pin right? Here is my non rigger newbie opinion (hafta protect me with the flaming), How do you store the PC? If its BOC (only thing I know), do you leave some bridle slack inside one of the flaps?(I have no idea if you can understand what I said, damn english, gotta practice some more) I use a BOC Dolphin and I usually leave about 2-3 inches of bridle inside the right flap before folding the PC with the extra bridle. My rigger says it makes a difference. I feel english stupid today so can't explain why he told me that. "Life is full of danger, so why be afraid?" drenaline
  10. Hey Dan what about a water landing with the 25 sq' ? "Life is full of danger, so why be afraid?" drenaline
  11. I have jumped with protec, frap hat and factory diver full face. Frap Hat: very cumfy, protects nothing (i think), you can wear it from take off to landing with no problem, easier to put on goggles and holds the hair in place, and you get to look like a condom head or a mister conehead. Protec (open face): kinda cumfy, protects some more, you can wear it from take off to landing with no problem, you can hear the wind, the aircrafts engine and the jump countdown (ready, set, go) and as an extra you can hear the people when under canopy. The looks are so so. Factory Diver: very warm, very cumfy, protects alot, you cannot wear it from takeoff to landing (that damn thing is so hot that I have to take it off after 1K and under canopy I was suffering) and its so silent that its like jumping on mute. It looks very cool when you are around whuffos. Of course I live in a country where the temp. is always 29°C. Am buying a close face boomerang from bonehead cause it looks very cool, but gonna get a protec for those very hot days. The Z1 was my first choice before the boomerang came cause its a flip flop. 12. Favorite poem is desiderata. Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and ignorant; they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals; and everywhere life is full of heroism. Be yourself. Especially, do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass. Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world... Be cheerful. Strive to be happy. "Life is full of danger, so why be afraid?" drenaline
  13. Can't tell you really but from what I have read from other posts and listen from my rigger, its about 450 to 500 jumps, but if the lines have shrunk then I think (my non rigger opinion) that it should be replaced. Send it to PD they change the lines and do a canopy check. Things that I know that can wear a line faster is high speed deployment (i.e. while tracking, headdown), bad slider grommets (and the friction produced by the grommets) and not untwisting the brake lines (every night after jumping you should check the brake lines and untwist them). But thats just my non rigger opinion. "Life is full of danger, so why be afraid?" drenaline
  14. kewl pics Clay and congrats for your soon to be showbiz career
  15. Please don't guess, just ask me and wait for answer, I might and am a newbie in the sport but am not an ignorant that likes to talk without knowing, if I said D/C the RSL is because of something and skydivemonkey just explained it before me. Thanks monkey man. "Life is full of danger, so why be afraid?" drenaline
  16. >They just never learned what they needed to. >it's a HP canopy - and that's considered a newbie canopy nowadays. Maybe it should be add to the A license canopy controll? or should we add a B license course? I agree with what you said but I think it should be teached on an A license or a B license. >I once watched a woman give herself a horseshoe because she read the SIM on how to transition to a throw-out, but nowhere in the SIM does it say you actually have to let go of the pilot chute, so she didn't. Don't you need the supervicion of a instructor, coach or JM to transition from the ripcord to the throw out? and you are right again, the SIM does not have info on it but I think its cause you need the supervicion of a instructor (but thats just my wild guess). I think you are starting to convince me that the CRW training is needed, but I think that for the D is kinda late, maybe for the C or the B would be better. Just made a quick look at the SIM and there is no good info about the HP, there is almost nothing. I think I will keep thinking the same about pushing the limits to a lot more of what you can do (like I said to the max), you do have to push your limits but never cross the safe zone. billvon and others, thanks for all the input on the subject. 18. >do you know what to do in a wrap? If wrap is when one skydivers body gets wraped by the main of another then the answer is: communication with the lower jumper, lower jumper cuts away, the top jumper can now unwrap himself. "Life is full of danger, so why be afraid?" drenaline
  19. Hey I dunno what it is but it has tricked me about 5 times. Gonna wirte a post it "Do not, I say Do not enter the 'How many people' thread". "Life is full of danger, so why be afraid?" drenaline
  20. Is that picture work safe?
  21. How they manage to get money for friday night parties? "Life is full of danger, so why be afraid?" drenaline
  22. How many jumps you have? My answer is No, 35 jumps. What to do? disconnect RSL, downplane cutaway; side by side disconnect RSL and release if everything looks good; bi-plane fly the bigger canopy. And land all of them with PLF. "Life is full of danger, so why be afraid?" drenaline
  23. >A 2-stack might not be a perfect simulation of a two-out situation Never done that, can't say if its true or wrong. Remember that a two out situation is not only 2 canopies on top of your head, you can also get a biplane, your main over the reserve, the reserve over the main, the side by side and entanglement without the option of releasing. A two out is an emergency that can happen or can't, you can have a lifetime of jumping without getting one (I just made a poll on talkback to see how true that is). I think (but thats just my ignorant way of thinking, maybe billvon, quade or other pro can enlight me with more input) that the only good way to practice and really know about that, is jumping with a intentional cutaway rig and having it happen to see how you will react (people react different to stressfull situation, i.e. people going for the pin instead of cuting it and opening the reserve) >some day when you have to make a low turn to avoid another canopy or you have a brake line snap during your flare. Thats why I said that the canopy control should be in the A license progression and the SIM must have a bit more of detailed ways of canopy turns. A good example of what must be add is the different ways of turn and when they should be used, read the last post of How to flare thats a good example of what must be add in the SIM. About the line snapping I think its thanks to careless people who don't check theyr equipment, and not just riggers fault (they are humans they can miss something), everybody must learn how to check his/hers equipment, lines, sewing, cloth everything. The truth is (and can ask the instructors to see if am wrong) that the A license does not cover to much of canopy control. Just in case: Am not flaming, if it sounds like that is because I have some trouble with the english and can only use the words I know and the one's that are on the dictionary. "Life is full of danger, so why be afraid?" drenaline
  24. I have no idea where to put this poll. Have you ever got unintentional two canopies out (the reserve and the main) at the same time? How many jumps you had (if its yes) and how you knew what to do. If its no, tell me how much jumps you have and if you know what to do if it happens. Have you ever had two canopies out at the same time (main and reserve)? Yes No "Life is full of danger, so why be afraid?" drenaline
  25. >Because on every jump they are afraid of breaking a bone. I think I said "don't want to RAISE theyr chance..." everybody knows you can break a bone, that is the risk we take when we jump (many situations can make you break a bone). >If they had some training on how to turn low, they might just know how to save their lives if they ever have to turn low. This is worth teaching, even if you have no intention of ever hook turning. You are 100% right, teach that to the newbies, it should be included in the A license progretion, don't leave it for after a 200 jumps thing. A person that has 200+ jumps usually knows what to do (of course in every rule there is an exception). How many jumps had your 2 friends? >Do you really think that it's important to know the requirements for a skydive from 40,000 feet, but not important to learn to control your canopy near the ground? A D license is a person that is educated in the sport and that means he knows all the requirements, and he represents the USPA as an educated skydiver. >Why do you feel skydiving should be RW-centric? Why should we require expert RW skills but not even basic CRW skills, considering that CRW skill can save your life if you have a cypres firing one day? >And some people just don't like RW. dunno how wrong am gonna be with this but here it goes: Everything involves belly in freefall (sooner or later you have to be on your belly and you must know how to control it), not everything involves CReW, HP or freefly etc. Two canopies out is an emergency, how to handle it? read the SIM. About the HP people getting injured and on worst cases getting biff and dying, well read the posts, some people that doesn't even have 200 jumps are already doing it, before jumping a HP you should ask yourself this: you wanna jump a HP? ok, do you have the skill for it? do you have the teachings for it? do you know how to controll a normal canopy with normal wingload? No? then don't do it, get coaching if you want to do it, like I said a specialty. What I do think is that the SIM must have more info on canopy control, there is nothing about HP (if am wrong please do tell me, cause I must of missed it). People should use good judgment before doing something new. People should learn not to push theyr limits to the max, cause that will kill them. >CRW training can save your life. How? please do tell me, I wanna learn. Just in case: Am not flaming, if something sounds harsh or bad or anything like that please don't take it bad, I just wanted to explain why I said that and give my opinion about the subject. We are all friends right?
