This is Incorrect!! You Never want to REACH while trying to dock you wil only find yourself everywhere else but docking when reaching.... The tunnel is a great place to learn, expensive but well worth it.... you will progress fast with tunnel coaching, but sometimes you will need to tweak what you learned a hair when it comes to a skydive since your now wearing a parachute on your back..... You just told Kirk Verner how to take a grip. Kirk, you taking notes? Seriously, the tunnel is a great place to work on all those "last 3 feet type things" although in Kirk and Joe's tunnel, it's more like the "last 10 feet type things"! ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. The only tandem canopies I know of that come standard with Spectra are the JoJo Wing built Hop330's, and the Aerodyne A2, and it's a poor choice IMO as the canopies are more susceptible to poor performance because of the trim issues Spectra brings. Icarus Tandems come with Vectran, a material I'm not overly fond of, but it does do the job. It's very prone to tension knots after a while. Precision canopies come with either Dacron or Vectran, I prefer the Dacron because of it's stability in trim, spring when loaded on openings, and it's durability. Vector Sigma Tandem canopies come with Dacron. HMA is a great line type, but I don't think it's right for tandems, there are harsher conditions placed upon tandem gear than is good for an HMA lineset. And there's not much need, having super cool go fast lines on a tandem canopy is like chrome plating a turd. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. JP's formula for calculating liability as a skydiving instructor: Step 1. Calculate your net worth, for most full time instructors this will be a number best represented by using a RED sharpie marker, and since they can't afford the marker, they'll have to borrow the one from manifest. Step 2. Compare your net worth with the DZO's, the Gear manufacturer's, the USPA's, the airport owner's, the aircraft manufacturer's, etc, and the insurance policies that may or may not be carried by the above mentioned persons/entities. Step 3. Place your self in the ranking of "named parties" according to your net worth, for most full time instructors you'll probably be somewhere near the bottom of the list, followed only by the "99 John or Jane Does" Step 4. Scrap all the above work and realize you're fucked financially just by being "invited" to a trial, regardless of the outcome. Seriously, the second best protection is to do everything by the book and never let yourself be pressured into doing otherwise. I guarantee anyone who does pressure you to do so will not waste any time or method getting out from in between you and the prosecuting attorney if they can. However if you're willing to risk all of that, your instructional ratings will be some of the most rewarding things you've ever done.
