  1. Wow, the Bonfire is still fluff. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  2. He used to own a gear store in NY...... ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  3. I'd say it's hit or miss, as a fellow moderator of yours WAS able to hook knife the offending lined over control line on a slider up B A S E jump. That said, I'd chop a line over that I couldn't clear without a knife on a main. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  4. I am. What if it had broken after he got through 1 or 2 risers? And yes, things will get wild when cutting one riser at a time, but if it's necessary to do, then why would you not do it anyway? Based on talking with him, various other stories and my personal experiments with pre-planned breakaways including ones side and one riser breakaway I'm going to suggest that cutting 4 risers one at a time is FAR more difficult than people think. I would probably land what I got, or take my chance with two out. It's not a cut and dry situation so who's to say if I'm right?
  5. I don't know that that would meet the letter of the law. It's an approved single harness dual parachute system that is required in the FAR's When you pre-plan the breakaway, that main doesn't count, so that leaves you with two single harness, single parachute systems. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. 6. Bravo sir. I'm moved to the verge of tears. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i7S7uO-7beQ
  7. Come up with concrete definitions of negligence and I might agree with you, but in a legal system that can be twisted by a good/bad lawyer to show simply exiting an aircraft is negligence then I can't. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. 8. Regardless of his intent by the definition of the word it was a violent attack. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  9. An original (unstreched) C141 Starlifter? ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  10. I personally inspected the gear of a friend as well as talked to them about their incident in which they were forced to try to cut away their reserve using a hook knife. Fortunately for them the knife broke before they got through even one riser. Think about what's going to happen as you loose one riser at a time. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  11. All of my breakaways have been "intentional". But of the 35 or so that I planed to do before ever getting on the plane, I followed the rules of having a main I intended to land as well as an approved reserve, as well as a main to breakaway from. In practice all of the pre-planed ones were done with the breakaway main deployed either hand held or by chest mounted container. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. 12. A J1K is smaller than a J5K, but it is not the smallest. See here: http://sunpath.com/ click on "Buy an Odyssey" and then on the sizing chart. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  13. You're building the addition? Then no, you're not selfish. Hand her a hammer and tell her she can build her own space. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  14. You are absolutely correct. I had not remembered the wording when changed from an experimental status. To the OP, it would require a waiver from the FAA as well. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  15. Rigging Innovations has made some like that in the past. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  16. I take it on a case by case basis, evaluating each "customer" of mine to determine how I want to handle the transaction. Most of the time I ship the item and the customer sends payment at the same time. Occasionally I have let the customer evaluate the item first, and once I used the "rigger" method. Every used item I've bought I've sent the money and the seller has sent the item at the same time. I haven't been burnt yet.
  17. Next time you're out at Davis find me and I can show you the ways that can happen on a Sigma System. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  18. I can see the difference in that the level of aggression is different and the potential for injury is different but the fact is that they are both violent acts. What happens when the performer on stage doesn't take the tomato in the face with the same intended meaning as the thrower had and defends himself by throwing back a brick? Or what if his eye suffers damage from a direct strike? It's simply not appropriate in either disagreement. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. 19. I'm pretty sure that's not what she's saying at all. I think that throwing anything in anger is wrong. I can't say I don't understand his motivations, but it's still violence, and violence as an aggressive action rarely resolves any conflict. Violence may eliminate conflict, but too often the escalation associated with that elimination produces unwanted or unfortunate side effects. Violence as a defensive measure often eliminates conflict at the moment, but often produces more conflict down the road. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. 21. If the third canopy is intended to be your first main to be deployed, then I can't see why a TSO is needed. If you're going to jump the third canopy as a reserve or even as your second main to be deployed, the yeah, I can see why he might make a case for the TSO. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. 22. I think you ought to call them to find out more. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  23. There's the problem. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
  24. Mostly the name of the jumps. Some DZ's have retained the older method of labeling the jumps as Level 1, Level2, etc, while others have aligned themselves more closely with ISP labels like Category A, Category B, etc. The Categories may include more than one jump just like the Levels. From personal experience, being trained as an instructor at a DZ that used levels, the jump in thinking to categories takes a bit of effort at first, but it's not too hard. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are.
