The Yamaha. The Honda has always lagged compared to the other Sport bikes IMO. The Suzuki or the Yamaha are the hot rides. ME, I'm happy now as a cruiser convert, and I love my Yamaha.... ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Because for some reason, the hotheads think they have the "Right" to land how, where, and when they want, and no one teaches them different. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Once upon a time like today, a guy met some other poor schmuck who has shells out $2400 a month to the woman who drives the car he USED to own and is still making payments on. The guy looks at the schmuck's situation and thinks "why would anyone ever get married, when they can just live together in sin and not be at risk?"

Put a slider pocket on it. There's a reason you can pick them up cheap these days. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
About 100 to stop "pranging" myself into the ground. If you're having trouble getting the timing on the flare right, you may be looking down where your feet are going to touch, and not out in front of you at the horizon enough. You'll loose the ability to judge height rapidly if you keep looking down. Looking out to the horizon will give you the height information and also allows you to have an easier time keeping the wing level over you when landing. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Hey Dom, good to see you around again. Never really heard or kept track of what you were up to, just knew you dropped off the radar all of a sudden. In any event, I think we all go through bad patches where we are not who we want to be yet, glad to see you're climbing out of the bad, and making a positive time of it. I wish you all the best in your journey. NYC is an amazing place isn't it? I've got friends there, so if I'm ever in town I'll look you up!

Advice for faster than normal landings
diablopilot replied to TerminatorSRT4's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I find newer jumpers who are having trouble "running out" their landings are not doing two things correctly. 1) Flare all the way. This means hands below your buttocks. Otherwise your wasting lift which keeps you off the ground longer and allows you to slow down more before setting your feet down, and it increases the braking effect from the canopy. 2) Don't put your feet down just because you've reached ground level. You've spent all that time and money to be a flying creature, why rush your re-encounter with the ground? -
I believe what you're describing is a slider pocket, an in field riggers modification which will be very visible as a slider width pocket on the forward edge of the slider. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Altimeter limits/ Did I get ripped off?
diablopilot replied to johnabarton's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
How do you do that legally? I'm sure I could vastly improve the performance on a cessna engine just by doing the heads. Unfortunately you can't touch anything like that because you'd need an STC for it. Those engines are about the most disgusting 1950's technology castings I've ever seen. About the only thing I've seen like that is laser drilled injectors to balance the cylinders but they're very expensive and obviously only good for the EFI planes. Anyone got a spare PT6? I'd like to bolt it on the front of our 182 so we can do 18k tandems! -Michael There are quite a few ways to increase the performance numbers on a 182. Start with a STOL/high lift kit, add wing extensions for an increase in max gross weight. Strip out anything not needed, buy your self a special built larger engin from a performance shop, and have a composite prop hung up front. Now the question is the expense of doing so worth it, or are you polishing a turd. -

A typical poor attitude. That is why tandem gear manufacturers have had to go (back) to cable style closing pins, to save people from their poor attitudes. More than likely that TI was me, and it's not a poor attitude, at least not on my part. The Sigma main closing flap is pretty worthless at staying closed. [edit: the addition of magnets has helped immensely] However I know this, and conduct myself in the aircraft accordingly. On nearly every tandem I do on Sigmas the flap is checked prior to donning the rig, and shortly after putting on the rig it's open. Closing at that point usually means it will open 10 steps later on the walk to the aircraft. What is good about the flap is that when one sits down in the aircraft, it pushes back up to cover the pins. The OP may also not know about the drogue safety pin and the way the Sigma tandem system functions. Because I've just done a complete gear check and loading on the taxiway isn't the best time to explain the differences in systems is why I might come off with a "joke" like the above. But if the OP or anyone is interested I am more than happy spending hours boring them with all the possible details of the gear. It's something I really do enjoy doing. As to gear checks, all of my students are encouraged to get and give them. There is an etiquette to them that sometimes overlooked. A gear check should always be done with the knowledge of the gear wearer. And if something is unfamiliar to the checker then NEVER just figure it out. I personally have dropped out of the habit of asking for a gear check for a few reasons: 1. I always check my own gear on the ground. 2. I can check my gear myself on the airplane. 3. Too many times I've had someone reach over and adjust my gear without asking. 4. I jump a less common system, and may jumpers are puzzled by it. I will explain that system to anyone who asks, and when I cannot check my own gear or have some doubt about it I will ask someone I trust. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. I haven't done it with Spectra, but I'd go about it the same way one adds a DBS to a Dacron lined B A S E canopy. Fingertrap a piece of line into the control line with a small section exposed. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
