  1. Funny, yes but also very serious that there is such flaw in student training. Even if it is a first time student you should know what the handles are, and when to pull them.
  2. I dont think that is the best idea , you want the whole bridle out when you throw , and with the bridle in the very tight bridle cover , you throwing wont pull it all the way out. I see a stuck bridle scenario with the pilot chute flailing around in the air pocket on your back. Maybe if you make a point of pulling the bridle out with the throw. But I wouldnt take the chance. I thought of that too, unless you let go of the PC to early the PC should inflate and have normal pull force, which is enough (as usual) to pull the bridal out of the cover. But another thing i didnt think of earlier, the BOC pouch is spandex and has the opening in the correct orientation. The cover is corura that creates more friction and has the opening 180 degrees off the pull orientation. Even if the bridal bunches up to a big mess it will come out of the spandex pouch, but if the same thing happend in the cover, i would belive it would be some problem.
  3. Today when i was packing i thought about this thread and had an idea. What if you would stow all the bridal under the bridalcover that runs from the closingflaps to the BOC, and just have the PC in the BOC pouch? This would eliminate the chance of you wraping bridal around the PC while packing it. I never tried it because i thought there might be something i havnt thought about.
  4. I just finnished a Excel add-in file for those of us who use Excel to view the data. Macro codes can be harmful for your computer and i will not take responsibillity for any damage. But i have tested the code and am confident about it The Add-in will split the data using text to columns. Add a column for horisontal speed in km/h and make it bold. Add a column for vertical speed in km/h and make it bold. Bold the hMSL and set it to 0 format (no decimals). Freeze panes at row 3. Installation Excel 2007 1. Download file. 2. Place file in your AddIns folder. C:\Users\ \AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\AddIns 3. Open Excel 4. Click on the Excel "main button" in top left corner and choose |Excel options|. 5. Click on Add-Ins on the left. 6. At the bottom of the window it says Manage |Go|, choose Excel Add-Ins and press Go. 7. A window with avalible Add-Ins should pop up, mark Flysight and press |Ok|. 8. Close Excel and open a Flysight CSV file. If anyone wants mph/feet/inches or whatever, just tell me. For those who knows VBA, this is the source code. 5. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UnJX2FiW-ik Its the A-B line furthest out on the right. Why? Just by the look of it, it seems to be easier to pull than pulling the riser and seems to give him a more violent spin. I dont recommed you try it unless you are alone in the air, as you can see he lets go of both toggles and unless you are alone in the sky that could be very dangerous when doing manuvers like this. He made this manuver knowing there was nobody he could collide with.
  6. Thats cool! Im very impressed with your GPS, you should be proud of your work
  7. Im also suprised about how slow i was, but as we did a two way track dive i couldnt get a good exit. I will try again if i get a chance this year, or next year. So, looking at the gliderate at ~0.7-0.8 means i should be just about right with 120 as max? It could be that i didnt notice that the tone changed more than i thought. Or that i dont know all the tones. Attached the logs and maps of the tracks. The winds was light on ground, i would say 1-2 m/s on ground. Direction was parallel with road 17/113, west/northwestish. I dont know the winds aloft.
  8. Maybe next year, i dont think there will be that many jumpdays left this year But i did get a chance to try it out yesterday, and it worked. But since i was doing a trackdive the beeps was very low on the first jump. I tried to change the settings for the second jump to make it more "trackdive friedly", but i think it was still set to high (or im lousy tracker ) ; GPS settings Model: 6 ; Dynamic model ; 0 = Portable ; 2 = Stationary ; 3 = Pedestrian ; 4 = Automotive ; 5 = Sea ; 6 = Airborne with < 1 G acceleration ; 7 = Airborne with < 2 G acceleration ; 8 = Airborne with < 4 G acceleration Rate: 200 ; Measurement rate (ms) ; Tone settings Mode: 2 ; Measurement mode ; 0 = Horizontal speed ; 1 = Vertical speed ; 2 = Glide ratio ; 3 = Inverse glide ratio Max: 120 ; Maximum value ; cm/s in Mode 0 and 1 ; ratio * 100 in Mode 2 and 3 Threshold: 1000 ; Threshold for tone (mode 2 and 3) ; cm/s vertical in Mode 2 ; cm/s horizontal in Mode 3 Volume: 5 ; 0 (min) to 8 (max) I belive the Max setting was 300 at default, but it seems 120 is still to high. I could hear the beeps go higher but not more than 2 or 3 steeps. Do you have any suggestions for trackdives? Can the logfiles be of any help when setting the Max setting?
  9. ~just because others pull lower and no one says anything doesn't make it any more right for them than you. ~Just because you *can* do something doesn't mean you *should* do something. And that said...if you plan to deploy low, be sure your spotting skills are on. This guy got out at 5K, had plenty of time to deploy (you can hear his audible tones), and didn't deploy til quite low. Others on his load made it back. He didn't. ~And just because you can upload more than 10 minutes of video to youtube now does not mean its a good idea.
  10. ok. GPSdata from a canopyride. numbers are in Km/h and meters. As you can see i first fly at full speed, then apply rears, and let go again. There is some difference in horizontal speed but looking at the vertical speed, its totaly worth it
  11. What is a fail? If the AAD fired but too low because of turning it on at an off altitude? Missfire at high altitude? Not fireing at all (yes)? Missfire in airplane? If it fired correct but person backflying causing delay? Fire due to low turn?
  12. We had plans to have a "competition" at the DZ, and the rules was very easy, highest heartrate lose
  13. No, my best (or is that worst) is 184 on a skydive. What i feel very strange is that my heartrate is lower on CRWjumps. Just geting my gear on gives me a heartrate at ~110 However calm you might feel, you cant hide it from the monitor
  14. So? Is that a good reason why sudents should have somthing on their head? A helmet or Fraphat?
  15. Some DZs pack outside all the time, but i dont think its a good idea. If you have wind it will be harder to pack it. Even if i had packed ~500 times when i first tried to pack outdoors it was still a challenge. And dont worry about the grass, grass is normally green. It comes in yellow and brown also, but try to stay away from that
  16. So you want to make a own kml file just to look at the flight on a map? http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/map_input On the right it says: Or post your data here. Copy and paste all the long/lat data to this field and press draw the map. It will give you a 2D map of the flight. But what kind of structure does a kml-file have, you can easily create a Excelmacro to convert the file.
  17. I've heard MAC OS can support some Windows applications... is there a similar method for Windows w/MAC apps? Until now, i dont think it has ever been needed or wanted Yes, you can open it in Excel, but the thing i was looking for was the graphs that the flysight software creates. Oh well, i can do that in Excel also.
  18. http://hidemyass.com/ and paste http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VXpnxMH3hds
  19. Gah! I should have seen that. I have had the same problem with my other GPS logger so i should have looked at that. You are correct, i didnt think of the hAcc the correct way. The software for the GPS, will it be avalible for Windows also?
  20. Intressting. I tried the pythagorean equation to calculate the speed and it did show a different speed than what i calculated based on the GPS position. Also calculated the distance based on the speed, and it to showd a slight difference. I attached a new spreadsheet. velH The velocity calculated by using the distance between to GPS positions. velSQRT The velocity calculated by SQRTequation you suggested. velDiff Difference in % between the calculations hDistance Distance traveld based on GPS position. hDistVel Distance based on the speed readings. hDistDiff Difference in % I can understand the difference in the begining is bigger due to the number of sattelites, but as you can see i redlined two rows which is very odd. Its kind of obvious that its the GPS position that has been off and it "bumped" itself in to position, but why and how come we dont see the same in the velocitycalculations. If we exclude the red lines all other differences are within the sAcc. But the distance traveld differs more than the hAcc. Could that be because of the altitude? The longitude/latitude grid is (as far as i know) on the ground, and when you go up you get a "lower resolution"? In the calculations i make based on GPS position i take altitude in to the formula, how does the velocitys the GPS gives do? Sorry if i bother you with this, i just find it odd that there is that much difference. And i got my FlySight in the mail today Thanks! I had to save it as xlsx (2007 version) because the file would exceed file size limits in 2003 version

    low cessna jump

Yep seen it, but its blocked. I could watch it a few weeks ago but now it has been blocked. This is where it used to be http://www.youtube.com/user/jshoff725#p/u/2/KRvK1koPx5A
  22. Ok, thanks. Yes i was looking in the wrong column So you have split the speeds in three parts, hmm... So if you want to know your speed in the direction you are flying (if not straight north/east) you have to calculate the speed. The accuracy columns, lets take one of the rows as an example. It says hMSL 2193.68, and hAcc 1.01. So does that mean your altitude at that moment could be anywhere between 2194.69 and 2192.67? Thats cool. I guess the vAcc and sAcc is the same. This csv-file is that created directly in the GPS or is it something thats created in the computer? I miss some data in the file, such as hDistance, velH (independent of direction) and Glideratio. EDIT: noticed a misstake in the calculations, replaced attached file
  23. Sweet. I see the CSV-file is also working now. But i get confused about the data. First off: What is velN, velE, velD, hAcc, vAcc, sAcc, gpsFix, numSV? The velocityreadings say they are in m/s, are you sure its not m/0.2s? The speeds look very slow for beeing 1 second.
  24. What rig is that you pack that Navigator in? And what year is it from? I doubt any rigmanufactors size bags for F111
