...and he's a judge on 'American Idol'? Chuck

School mascots are supposed to represent strength, honor and winning ways. Mascot names were meant to be flattering, not offensive. Something to take pride in. I was always told that imitation was the highest form of flattery. Now, that flattery is offensive. That's what PC has brought us. Now, you can't name your team after a proud, strong people and try to imitate that. Now, thanks to PC, you can't 'pull' someone's leg or 'kid' them. We just take ourselves too damned serious. We've lost our sense of humor. It's a sad commentary on us. Chuck

Nah I use them as work trousers, and I ride a motorbike almost daily, so they tend to fade from Black to grey, when they fade they become 'non" work jeans and a little later "good will" donations I see what you're saying. I wear mine till they are beyond goodwill rejects. Chuck

Interesting view. I wonder if he wrote that as 'fitional' so as not to hurt anyone's feelings? I was raised to believe that if, you want to get somewhere in this world, you got off your butt and worked for it. If, you were lazy and didn't show any ambition, you were left behind. Now days, everybody is on a level plane and the 'dead-butt' is just as good as the high achiever. That's just not reality. I believe that there are go-getters and there are those who just lack ambition. I can see trying to help someone gain some motivation but if they 'don't want to' you're just spinnin' your wheels. It all just kinda' snuck-up on us. We need to get rid of it! I think, it all started with not keeping score in kid's soccer (football) games and sno-balled from there. It has everyone so up-tight it's no wonder we have an increse in 'mass murderers'! Chuck

I too bought one of Allen's ratchet devices when he first introduced them. I found it to be a very well made, high quality and an easy to use device. It really works good. Over time, I used it less and less, as I learned to 'work' the camopy material with my hands and putting less stress on flaps and grommets. If not used properly, as you know, they can be damaging. All in all, I'd take Allen's over any I've seen or used. Chuck

Zippers tend to go sooner because folks tend to cram too much into their gear bags and force the zipper pull. Too much stress like that ruins zippers. Chuck

I wish people would just man up... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VXD8yOxIPB0 Does this mean that all schools with 'cougar' for a mascot has to suddenly re-think it and adopt a new one? Let's see... they could choose the mosquito or the fiddler crab... oh wait. Fiddler crab could just possibly offend violin players. Let's see... I'll have to get back with you. Chuck

Gingrich wanted ‘open marriage’ with both wife and mistress

I just get so tired of guys running for office. They talk real big but when it gets down to the nut-cuttin' they just don't have what it takes. Chuck -

True, unless his private life is somehow of importance in regard of his politic views, which is the case here. If you preach family values, you better make damn sure that your private life is pristine. A typical case of "Judge and be judged". I agree with you in principle. But unless somebody's a closet axe murderer or serial wife beater, I really don't give a shit anymore. I see ex- and soon-to-be-ex- spouses/SOs act like fucking assholes almost every time I'm in Family Court. We've all known for 20 years that Newt's a prick, and a philanderer, in that order. So now, 15 years after the marriage ended, his 2nd ex is getting in one last lashing-out of her rage against her ex-husband, for no other reason than because she hopes it hurts him. Frankly, I think it's long past time for her to have gotten on with her life, including emotionally. After all these years, all she's really managed to do is make herself look like an embittered fool in public. This should be a lesson to all the divorcees out there who are still very, very, very angry at their ex-spouses: Let it go. I pretty much agree with you, counselor. Maybe I'm too 'old school' but I really feel that our politicians and elected officials should be held to a higher standard. Especially, our president. He represents us to the entire world. I think too, the 'sexual revolution' of the 60's as well as other movements of that era have drastically changed our morals and standards. We've become so laid-back, we're about to fall over! Chuck Damn, right............ I'm pretty sure everyone would agree in principle. The problem is where do we, as a nation, find such an angel to be our leader? Ain't no way. Men are flawed. To find one who is honest to admit that he has made human mistakes would be refreshing. Gingrich has 'fessed up. Many times. Gingrich certainly did not perjure himself like Willie the "K" did. "Ah ded not have sax wiff that woman." "That depends on wut the meaning of "is" is..... "Mah cee-gar tayses funny..." I'm not saying they need to be perfect. There's no duch thing. I do expect them to have a God-damned backbone and do the job the way it's meant to be done. Chuck -

Damn straight!! Perry scares the fuck out of me. Good riddance! There's two things I don't like about him... his face! I can't stand that constant 'I know something you don't know smirk', either. He just comes across as arrogant and self-centered. Probably no different than any other politician but Perry really stands-out. I know too, he has a lot of supporters here in Texas, that's fine. It doesn't take much looking to see that he has cost and spent more than his fair share of Texas tax-payer's money. I just wish to God we could find a good replacement for him as Governor! Chuck

The Remington 700 rifle that Charles Whitman used to kill 17 and wound 31 was sold as a deer hunting rifle. I own a Remington model 721, .30-06 with a 3x9 scope. I've had more offers for that gun. That same series, it it's early days had a sfaety problem. When a round was loaded into the chamber, it would fire. A Montana family was deer hunting one day. The mom loaded a round into the chamber of her Remington 700, the rifle fired accidentally killing her son. A lawsuit resulted. Remington made a weak attempt at resolving the problem. Carlos Hathcock, U.S. Marine GS, Sniper, had 93 confirmed kills, used a Winchester Model-70, .30-06. Also a deer hunting rifle. Chuck

Surely, there is some testing that could be done. When Smith& Wesson came-out with the Model 66, the Border Patrol really ran it through their 'field testing'. TheM-16 was purchased solely on the 'word' of Colt. Jets are tested, missles are tested and so-on. The M-16 could've been tested in the Okeefenokee (sp), for that matter. I think, our military was too easily impressed by a sales pitch. Chuck
