Those didn't go in, either! Wings had a couple 'pingers', too. Zetterberg helping Ozzie is just 'teamwork'. It's that final score that counts! Chuck

Ozzie! Ozzie! Ozzie! Chuck

I've seen games where one or two penalties might be missed but any more, it's ridiculous. Like you pointed-out, they call the dumbest things and call them 'hooking' or 'tripping' and the all-time biggest mis-call... interference! That last one is Gary Bettman's favorite and wants it called 'every' time. I think, a big part of the problem is, the pressure put on the refs to make that call. Meanwhile, the refs miss the stick under an opponent's visor and silly things like that. Sheeesh! Chuck
-
Yup! I heard one of the announcers point-out a penalty on Pittsburgh. Nothing happened! The other announcer quietly said; "Maybe, they're gonna just let 'em play!?" This has been all season and into the play-offs. Stevie Wonder could do a better job than these refs! If, I heard correctly, the 'ref' pool is down to something like 8 refs for the finals. Gotta be the shallow end. In spite of the bad reffing, I thought it was a good-good game. Ozzie was... well... 'The Wizard of OZ'! Chuck

Looks like, the Wings have Malkin and Crosby figured-out. I'm not saying it's going to be a downhill slide for the Wings but, they keep-up what they did last night and they could pull this series out. I can't say much for the refs and their lack of calls. All in all, it was a good game and the start of a good series. Chuck

Bylsma's big thing will be to match the lines Babcock puts on the ice. I look to see some of the not so shining stars step-up for the Pens and Malkin and Crosby get shut-down. Granted, the big battle will be from the goalies. As for Detroit, they have so many goal scorers and not just one or two. Also, how well both teams help their goalies. I really believe, all the stats and numbers and what these two teams were like in the regular season or last year's play-offs will all go out the window when the first puck is dropped tonight. Both teams are fired-up, hungry and ready. It's going to be a real nail-biter! The only draw-backs... the play-offs are on NBC... we have to listen to that bubble-head Pierre Mcguier... Go Wings!

All scheduling and Bettman aside, the ecitement starts tonight. The Wings are on a roll and will maintain their momentum. They are getting Lidstrom back as well as a couple other players. I don't think, the Penguins will be able to handle the Wings. Granted, the Wings had three real tough series to get where they are. They aren't as beat-up as the Pens would like to think. The Pens didn't have it as tough in their three series. With the Wings depth, this will pull them through. Crosby and Malkin have been big but, in the Finals, they won't be big enough. Chuck

Where the hell have you been? Chuck

You got that right! I can't recall, in all my years of watching hockey, the excitement and tension of the play-offs this year. In spite of Bettman, the coaches and teams have risen above his stupidity and given the fans something worthwhile. The Red Wings have certainly done that for the people of Michigan. Things being what they are in your state, the Wings winning the cup again, would mean a lot. Chuck

Some way, some how, the League needs to divest themselves of Gary Bettman! Surely, there is someone out there who could run the NHL and not make them the laughing stock of organized sports. For sixteen years, this buffoon has been at the helm of one of the finest, most exciting sports... ever! He could've found a better network than NBC. The two teams involved in this play-off mess will both, shine but in spite of Gary Bettman. Having the NHL play-offs and the NBA play-offs occur at the same time is total idiocy. All of this aside, I'm looking forward to a good Finals series. Go Wings!!! Chuck
-
I'm stickin' with the Wings in 6. This play-off series is going to be tough for both sides. The first two back to back games are not going to help either team. Bettman, in his vast wisdom struck a lousy deal with NBC and let a t.v. network lead him around by the nose. Gary Bettman should be cleaning septic tanks! Aw hell! He'd screw that up too! Chuck
-
It's not VS... it's NBC and it's sweeps week! Does anyone really watch NBC? Bettman wanted to get the Finals going so as to keep interest up with the Wings-Pens repeat thing. Bettman stated on ESPN that; "Had the Wings swept the Blackhawks, this wouldn't have happened!" The guy is an un-adulterated jerk who needs to be replaced!!! The type of team the Wings are, they'll be all-right. Wings in 6... just like last year. The Pens have no depth and Hossa is hungry! Chuck
-
What a knuckle-biter! Ozzie and Huet were fantastic! That game was just what I figured it would be... fast and furious. Good game! Have you seen the play-off schedule? This Sat. & Sunday in Detroit. I don't think I've ever seen the finals have back to back games like this. More of Bettman's better ideas. How long do we have to put-up with this idiot? Is his position like that of the Pope? Chuck
-
The Wings have Conklin as back-up to Ozzie and of course, Hossa from the Pens. Detroit has a lot of depth and experience. As long as the Wings can maintain control of the puck by avoiding turn-overs and avoid penalties, they should do good. The Pens have an excellent defence and a lot of speed. They may not have as many goal scorers as Detroit but, they know how to get the puck at the right time to the scorers they have. This will be the toughest series either team has experienced, yet. Chuck
-
Agreed! It's gonna be really good this year! Fast and furious! Chuck
-
Looks like, it'll be the Wings and Pens... again. After watching the Pens - Canes series, I'm wondering how the Canes got as far as they did. A sweep in the conference finals... how often has that happened? The Wings are out, three big names... the Pens are all healthy. We may be seeing a turn-around from last year. It's anyones guess! Chuck
-
You bet! Also, that goes the other way... the Wings have been dis-mantling the Western Conference. While Draper, Lidstrom and Datsyuk are out, this gives the newer/younger Wings, some play-off experience. Plus, the Wings have Hossa and it looks as though, he's starting to perk-up. When the Wings get Datsyuk back and he perks-up (hopefully) the Wings chances get better. Damn! That's going to be a GOOD series. Chuck
-
I think, for all the reasons you mentioned is why Draper, Lidstrom and Datsyuk aren't playing. Here's my wild guess on what's going on with the Wings. Babcock took a long-shot and held Draper, Lidstrom and Datsyuk, claiming injuries so as to have them rested for Pittsburgh. Babcock is't afraid to take a chance and with the depth of the Wings, he figured the Blackhawks out. You know how hockey teams are... they hold their cards close to their chest. Chuck
-
You got that right! The Pens are more than waiting for the Wings... they're ready for the Wings! They want what the Wings beat them out of last year. The Wings had better bring their 'A' game, that's for sure. What i find interesting is, the Wings and Pens will be a battle of the 'second place teams'. Both teams ended the season in second place. I think too, the Pens are a 'different' team from last year and the Wings better have their ducks in a row. Fasten your seat-belt... it's going to be a rough ride! Chuck
-
I agree, completely! To me, fresh caught salmon should have nothing added to it to change or enhance the flavor. That's the whole idea of fresh caught. Chuck
-
I'd like to have been a fly on the locker room wall when Quenville 'addressed' his players! You watch, next game will be ugly! They'll be desparate and pull-out all the stops. I just want to see the Wings win the next game and get rested-up for the Pens. Chuck
-
You got that right! I don't know where, they got some of these refs! I've read the 'conspiracy theorists', that Bettman supposedly hates the Red Wings organization and has the refs 'really watching' the Wings! I just think that some of these refs just don't know their business! I think too, the refs have had a lot of pressure on them to make certain calls. Which are mostly 'petty'. I thought the reffing in the Wings - Ducks series sucked too... toward both teams. edit to add: Wings-Pens! Go Wings! Chuck
-
Can you say... SWEEP? The way the Pens are playing, the Canes don't stand a chance. I know, the Pens want another shot at the Wings! Their confidence is way up there. The Wings nee to quit letting the Blackhawks 'get to them' and avoid the penalties. Also, that series needs some refs who know what the heck they are doing!!! It's really heating-up! Chuck
-
Handy as a pocket on a shirt! 'Shiny' as in "She's pretty shiny!' (good lookin') 'Knots in yer rope.' (messed up, all anxious) 'Yorn' not mine... yorn! Chuck
-
I agree! After looking at the re-play, several times, everything about that hit, was legal and really, shouldn't have been called. The call was made... it's history. The series is really getting going and the Blackhawks are definately in it! They sure don't look concerned about the Red Wings, for sure. Hossa and Datsyuk, both! I don't know what's happened to those guys. The wings got Hossa just for this very thing... the play-offs! Then again, that's the way it goes, this time of year. The 'least likely', really step-up. Noone can say that Hossa and datsyuk aren't trying. Chuck
