I wonder... how the game would've turned-out if, O'Hallaran hadn't given Kronwall a 5-minute major for the CLEAN hit on Havalat? Even the announcers said it was a clean hit. I do have to admit, the Wings looked more like Jr. 'B' players in the first period. Chicago definately, brought their 'A' game. The Blackhawks can more than likely look to win again tomorrow if, 'stats' mean anything. The Wings just don't do good in afternoon games. I see a long, probably 7-game series but, the Wings will pull-out the series win. Chuck

Holy cow! Malkin really got after it! This will more than likely, light a fire under the Canes and could repeat what they did in 2006. Good game! Chuck
-
My apologies, ma'am! I'll bet that was something! The Blackhawks go back, I'm sure you know, before the NHL was even formed. I hear of several 'rivalries' but, that one is the oldest. They do, put on a good show and give fans their monies worth. I remember a few years ago, the Wings played the Avalanche in the Western Conference finals and Patrick Roy and the Wing's goalie, Mike Vernon got into it at center ice. The next time they met (same situation) Roy and Ozgood got into it. The next time in the finals, Hasek headed for center ice to face-off with Roy and he fell on his face. Roy, skated-off laughing! Hockey is good! Chuck

Kinda' gives us an idea of what our Dads and Grandads meant by 'the good ol' days'!? I had an old cowboy tell me once, he'd seen a lot of changes in his life and never liked a damned one of them1! Chuck
-
Yessir! From watching the previous Chicago games, you're right... not quite as loud. Still, Chicago fans DO let you know, they have a voice! Years ago, I attended a game at the old Olympia Stadium in Detroit... that was something! The old pipe organ and the acoustics. really neat. These new stadiums and hockey rinks are all flash and mirrors but, there's nothing quite like the old stadiums. Chuck
-
Detroit's play doesn't look as 'tight' as last season. They are giving-up the puck too much and not 'working' Chicago's net and getting re-bounds. They aren't consistant. I wish to the heavens that Hossa and Datsyuk would wake-up! Along with a few others! If, Fleury perks-up and does what he is capable of doing... look-out! That series, like the Western conference will definately, keep fans on the edge of their seats. I like it! Chuck
-
No doubt! The Wings are really going to have to be on their game. Chicago has the reputation of being the 'loudest' rink in the NHL. Pumping all that energy the fans don't quit till the last whistle blows. Talk about keeping the Blackhawks revved-up! Chuck
-
Oh, hell yeah! The Blackhwks are putting forth a heckuvan effort. This, is about the best series, yet! Chuck
-
Yes, it was! The Wings looked like their legs were made of lead, later in the game. I'm really glad they won!!! This is Ozzies time to shine. the play-offs bring-out the very best in him. Toews did his part and tried to spark the Blackhawks but, it seems, that effort, didn't help. I've really been looking forward to this series. GO WINGS!!! Chuck
-
Wings pulled that one out! What a knuckle-biter! Looked like, the refs were just 'letting them play'. I saw a lot of possible calls on both sides that went un-noticed. I think, this is the best match-up I've seen. Pretty even on both sides, just going by shots on goal, face-offs won and etc. Chuck
-
I think, that goes for both conferences. When it reaches this level in the play-offs, it's anybodies guess! Just the way I like it! edit to add: I think too, if, Detroit plays 'their' style of hockey, they should have no problem with Chicago. This series wasn't like the Anaheim series where it was more 'beat 'em down physically' style. Chuck
-
You bet! I'm watching both conference series because, there's some really good hockey being played in both. I think, the Pens just might have a slight edge over the Canes but, I don't think, anyone can count the Canes out just yet. It's going to be close, their whole series. Chuck
-
You got that right! Canes came sooo close to putting that game into over-time! This is going to be anyone's series. The way these two teams are palying... this is going to be a hard-fought series, for sure. Game two tonight for the Western Conference! Chuck
-
No kidding? Hee, hee... That sounds like mickey! Yes, it was a lot closer! The Blackhawks played a darned good game and I look for more of that out of them. It's really a good match-up. Two Cup winning coaches, some 'young guns' and experienced players! That's the makings for a great series. Also, the Wings shouldn't get too tired traveling, this round. Chuck
-
I don't guess, I've ever heard him. I get the hockey channels every season so, I guess, I'm just going to have to tune-in to a Pens game! Mickey Redmond played for the Wings and really adds a lot to the commentary. (a player skating real fast, loses his footing and goes down on the ice) "Looks like he blew a tire!" Chuck
-
Toews and Kane only had something like 15 - 17-min. each. Seemed odd. Chuck
-
I think, the best is Mickey Redmond! He's knowledgable and un-biased. He adds a lot of 'color' and humor to his broadcasting. Pierre is an arrogant jerk and not as knowledgable as he thinks he is. This is going to be a good-good series! Chuck
-
Ain't that great! First game of the Western Conference finals and it's on NBC with that senseless rambler... Pierre! Wngs WIN! In spite of their turning the puck over too many times. Chuck
-
Which almost always beat youth and inexperience. I think the Wings will advance past Chicago pretty easily. And I hope the league reviews the officiating in the Wings-Ducks series. The two blown calls literally gave Game 5 to the Ducks, and the goalie interference call on Hudler could have given them Game 7 as well. Everything on the ice needs to be reviewable. Don You're more brave than I am! I've been avoiding saying that but, I'd probably jinx the Wings! I haven't seen such lousy reffing in a long time. Not just toward the Wings but, the Ducks, too. They were calling stuff that should not have been called and stuff that should've been called, they didn't. I don't know where the NHL is getting their refs but, they need to take a closer look! I sure do hope, the officiating is better in the next round. I didn't watch too much of the Eastern games... how were the refs for them? edit to add: I'll take age and wisdom over youth and speed... any day! Chuck
-
What is going to make the Wings Blackhawks series so 'interesting' is, the Blackhawks have Scotty Bowman! He knows the Wings organization inside and out. This, could give the Blackhawks a 'big' edge. Chicago will go into game 1 with 5-days rest and the Wings will have had only 2-days. Chicago, could have an edge in this series. Also, the average age of the Blackhawks is early 20's. Detroit will have to rely on depth, experience, controlling the neutral zone and strong defense. I think, this series is going to be 'high speed'! Also, the first game of this series will be a 'matinee' game. The Wings struggle with 'matinees'. It's gonna be GOOD! Chuck

If, I wanted a guarantee, I'd buy a toaster. This is a pretty good hunch from watching these four teams. With the salary cap, teams have come so close to being equal. The Canes have throttled-up as well as the Pens. I really look to see some good stuff with those two and some real nail-biters in the series.. The Blackhawks and Wings haven't met in the Conferance finals since 1959! There's a lot of animosity between these two teams. The Wings beat the Blackhawks at Wrigley Field in the Winter Classic and over the years, wins have gone back and forth. The Blackhawks finally, got a coach in Quenville. look what he did at St. Louis! More nail-biters here. For anyone who loves hockey, I think, these will be the best two series yet. It just gets better! Chuck
-
Detroit and Chicago go waaaaay back and it's always exciting to watch those two teams play each other. The Blackhawks have some experienced players who should keep the young players calm and steady. Ozzie has faced Khabibulin many times in the past. Also, the Blackhawks can cause sheer misery for the Wings. they are one of those teams that'll sneak-up on you and catch you off guard. Canes and Pens... another good match-up. I don't think, we have to hope too hard. I think, we're looking at two, seven game series and some real nail-biters. Chuck
-
Oh hell yeah! For a rookie in his first play-offs, he was un-believable! Like I said earlier, Hiller has absolutely nothing to be ashamed. I'm sure, he does feel bad about the game winning goal. He thought he had it under his pad but, not quite. I've seen that happen many times. Wait till next season! Hiller will be like Gibralter! It seemed that the Ducks just kept coming back, coming back. they were like the Energizere Bunny! They'd look a bit tired then pour-on some more. I know, there's a lot of pride in their locker room and they don't quit. They played a helluva series... no denying that! You're taking Chicago in the next round? They're another darned good team and it's going to be another good-good series! Original Six teams... been a long time. Chuck
-
Good pictures! All in all, it was a good, hard fought series. I can't say much for the officiating but, it seemed to work both ways. I kinda felt bad for Hiller... he looked like, he'd been slapped for fartin' at the supper table! He has nothing to be ashamed of! For a rookie? He held-off the Sharks and did his best with the Wings... helluva job! I'm looking forward to the Wings Blackhawks series... Original Six match-up! This is the best I've seen the Blackhawks in years. With the addition of Toews and Kane, they have some good scoring power. You're right! Unless, you are a follower of the Wings, those names are foreign to most folks. They all, did a damned good job. Especially Ozzie! He was really having troubles during the regular season but, he's been shining in the play-offs. Chuck

Well... come to think of it... beer donation and American piss-water WAS mentioned! Chuck
