  1. I saw something similar on 'Sons of Guns'. A guy had brought a fully automatic weapon into this country that had been cut in about 3-pieces. The reciever and barrel had been cut in two. Looked like a big chore but the guys got it up and running. Chuck
  2. This is just the best time of the year, when the NHL kicks-off the season. All of our hopes for our teams are high and dreams of the play-offs dance in our heads. It's looking like a good season in the making. Chuck
  3. Yeh, you're right. I don't need to jump the gun. It's still early. Even Mickey said that he thought there wasn't a problem because their goalie was out of the crease... yet they called it! Chuck
  4. I for one am in favor of keeping those rivalries. I really hadn't looked at as you suggest. Chuck
  5. That's what I was thinking. I can't think of any U.S. or Canadian teams being able to afford that kind of travel. Then again, you are correct...Bettman is an idiot!!! How do we get rid of the commish? Allow him to continue and he will single-handedly ruin the NHL. The Red Wings have ahd a horrible schedule also, having to play a steady schedule of Pacific coast teams. They and the Pacific Coast teams can thank uncle Gary. Chuck
  6. Heinlein wasn't a political scientist; he was a science fiction writer. Besides which, guns don't say please and thank-you; people do. When I was 14 I had just gotten home from School (I was alone) when a few minutes later I answered a knock at the door and this guy started to force his way in. We struggled for a bit and he fell one way and I fell another. I was able to jump up and retrieve my 30-30. He was on his way back to my room when I aimed straight into his face. He POLITELY" stopped and "POLITELY" ran away. Neither of us said a word. The message was very clear. You gave that guy a good lesson in 'courtesy'! Great job on your part. Glad it worked-out the way it did. Chuck
  7. I think, that's what Bettman was counting on... enough people from the north, (snow birds) to support hockey. Atlanta has had two cracks at a team and blew it both times. Nashville, surprisingly, has really taken to their 'Preds'. Texas has really taken to hockey, with (minor league) teams in Odessa, Del Rio, Austin and other towns. Houston, has had the Aeros for many years and Dallas 'loves' their Stars. Of course, Texas has had so many Northerners move here. Also, I think, Bettman has 'global ideas' for the NHL. I think, he's 'testing the waters' with the games the NHL teams play in Europe each year, he's tipping his hand. We may see a European expansion, sometime in the future 'Slap Shot' is just a great movie! Chuck
  8. The Wings also spent most of the 1980s in the basement. I could care less about the Jets, but you do need to get your spelling right. It is either "Winnipeg" or the other accepted spelling is "Winterpeg". Thanks for pointing that out to me! I'm serious about that. I did not mean to offend our Canadian neighbors. Atlanta didn't and don't deserve a team Look what they did with the Flames. They really don't support hockey but our illustrious Gary Bettman pushed for hockey in the U.S. South. After all... "It's a Canadian game!"
  9. The Wings need to get their act together... quick! They won 5-straight to start the season and as of last night, they've lost 5-straight!!! They look like slugs on the ice. No cohesiveness and too many penalties. Their power-play is in the cellar. I haven't seen them look like this since the '70's. They keep it up and it won't be 21-straight years in the play-offs. GO WINGS!!! The Jets are where they belong. So good to see them back in Winnepeg. Chuck
  10. I'm not trying to one-up your story but my first ex tried to stab me in my sleep with a kitchen knife. I just happened to wake just enough to see her draw her hand back with a knife in it. Were it not for the fact I woke because I had to pee, there's no telling what might have happened. Two weeks later, she left and went back to California! Chuck
  11. I think it goes even deeper than that. "My opinions are the only ones that matter and YOU are going to conform, like it or not." Rather arrogant to say one's opinion is right and all others are wrong. The funny part is that PC is now suffering somewhat of a backlash. Not strong enough to overcome it as yet, but many are starting the realize the worthlessness of it all. I'm hoping, that light at the end of the tunnel, isn't a gorilla with a flashlight! I've noticed that since the advent of political correctness, there's a lot of arrogance going around. That's probably due to the insecurity political correctness instills. Whatever it is... I don't like it. Chuck
  12. Hence, it's better to rent than to own. Sounds like something Charley Sheen would say! Chuck I learned from the master! You've done well. This whole thing reminds me of the old joke about the guy and a gorgeous woman, talking at a bar and the guy say's; 'I know what you are... I'm just trying to set the price!' Chuck
  13. But... but... that's just so.... wrong Someone, I don't remember who, but I think it was a comic, said something along the lines of: "If it doesn't hurt, it isn't funny" I don't know if that's true but I know that (as a rule of thumb) I laugh harder when the joke is more offensive. I don't remember me ever laughing over a joke that was PC. PC and humour certainly bite each other But nowadays everyone seems to want the right to not be offended. Never minding the fact that's often them that choose to be offended themselves. Yes,it's very wrong and totally un-acceptable in today's up-tight, politically correct society. In the 1950's, when I heard this and other similar jokes, that was humor, among kids. I can recall 'gross-out' humor and really sick humor but, there was something about it that drew a chuckle. Today, with all the political correctness going around, a very up-tight society has evolved. People 'demand' respect when they fail to 'earn' respect. With me, if you haven't earned respect, you can demand it all day long and you're not going to get it. My favorite line from the t.v. series M.A.S.H was from the psychiatrist on the show, when he said; "Sometimes, you just have to drop your pants and slide on the ice!" Chuck
  14. YES. A couple of weeks ago someone told me a joke about sending kids with ADHD to concentration camps. It wasn't the most tasteless joke I ever heard, but it was certainly one of the more tasteless jokes I heard in a long time. I laughed. Speaking of 'tasteless'... I heard this when I was just a kid. The little league team was gathered at their dugout before the first game of the season. Little Billy tells the coach that Jimmy wants to play! The coach quietly tells Billy that little Jimmy can't play... he has no arms or legs. Little Billy tells the coach... "He can be first base!" Chuck
  15. What's so un-acceptable about it? Henny Youngman and others made a living with humor like that! DOWN WITH POLITICALLY CORRECT!!! Chuck
  16. You do realize that the OP title is a direct reference to Gilda Radner? Just for clarity, I remember her fondly as a sweet, funny young lady who wasn't even close to being politically or ideologically controversial. IIRC, she and Gene Wilder were married at center-court durnig halftime at a Knick's game. Later she died of cancer. If she were alive today and read this thread, she might just dismissively say (in perfect character), "Never mind." Miss ya, Gilda. Edit to add: Incorrect character name in thread title--it's "Roseanne Roseannadanna ." "Never mind" was from her Emily Latella role. To me, Gilda Radner, Belushi and the rest of the crew at that time were simply the best... ever! Chuck
  17. Hence, it's better to rent than to own. Sounds like something Charley Sheen would say! Chuck
  18. DUUUUDE the rest was for munchies They're expensive too! Have you priced 'tater chips lately? Chuck
  19. IMO... Political correctness only makes people up-tight and forget a sense of humor. Too many folks are so afraid they might offend someone. I'm not saying that people should be offensive but people just need to lighten-up and get back to reality. Chuck
  20. This concerns me even more than censoring Halloween Costumes. Winning and losing in sports teaches people valuable skills that can be transferred to other things in life. Losing in sports teaches people two things: 1) You can't always get what you want. 2) If you want to win, you need to change your tactics. Both things that can be transferred to other aspects of life such as our careers and our relationships. But taking winning and losing away from children you fail to teach them how to accept when things don't go their way and fail to teach them how to adapt in order to get better. Say NO to political correctness. People who want to shelter children from winning and losing need to be perpetually bitch slapped. I would also add it teaches someone to be a good winner. To be gracious and non-condescending to those who don't always place first. Some really good points here. To me, political correctness takes all that away. Kids need to know in growing-up, that it really is a 'dog eat dog' world out there and that you have to work hard to attain your goals. All this political correctness teaches kids is how to accept mediocrity. It takes away striving for goals and working hard for them and appreciating what they worked hard for. To me, parents who go along with raising their kids to believe there are no winners or losers, are doing more harm to their kid thatn the schoolyard bully. Chuck
  21. No, I don't believe it's "Chuck". Oh, good grief! Chuck
  22. Seems to me, they're getting angry at their own kind. To me, they're all free-loaders and leeches. Chuck
  23. dueling pistols only There ya' go! Chuck
  24. ...and those who they are protesting are carrying-on, business as usual. Meanwhile, the protestors are patting themselves on the back for getting their movement spread around the world! Still, getting absolutely nowhere. Chuck
