who should pay for cutaway costs
beowulf replied to tws3998's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Find a new instructor, this one isn't giving you good advice. It's more like dangerously bad advice. -
Ya,so what? I was born this way...it is what it is. Your assumption is that this God doesn't exist and was created by man...prove it. Some say that this belief is the result of an evolutionary benefit...prove it. And you seem to think that we're all a bunch of nuts because we don't supress our natural feelings...prove it. I am not assuming there isn't a god. I am basing that conclusion on the lack of evidence of any deity at all. It is much more logical to think that man created gods to explain the unexplainable. Gods were once used to explain nearly every natural phenomena. Now we know that lightning and thunder aren't angry gods acting out. I think humans have an "inate desire" to understand the world around them and want to give meaning to their lives. Considering that there is no evidence to suggest any god exists this makes more sense then just assuming there is a god and the one you happen to believe in is the only one that exists.
-
I must have missed that thread. Which one did he predict the end of the world in?
-
No that's not what I said...please read what I wrote. I assure you it had nothing to do with that popular fallacy... This is what you wrote. Your statement assumes there is a god for people to have "an inate desire to know". You seem to think that because billions of humans believe in a deity or deitys that there is "an inate desire" to know your god and What? They just happen to have picked the wrong one? I think my statement describes what you said pretty well. It's just not how you like to think of it because you assume there is a god, your Christian God.
-
First there needs to be evidence that a "non physical" even exists. Just because humans imagine a spiritual world doesn't mean there really is a spiritual world. Science deals with everything around us. Science is a method for understanding what is around us and cutting through the illusions that are a part of the human brain. It's a way or method of testing everything so that we can better understand the world around us and filter between real and illusion.
-
So your belief is that because humans came up with this idea of god that there must be a god? That spirituality exists because lots of people believe it? The number of people that believe in something doesn't make it any more real. I think you have it a bit skewed. I think it's fairly clear that humans came up with the idea of gods to explain what they didn't understand. It's pretty evident in the number of natural occurances like lightning that were once attributed to gods. I see gods and spiritualism as mans struggle to explain the unexplained with out having to think very hard about it. Science on the other hand requires much more thinking and intelligence. So science is not nearly as popular as religion.
-
So explore all religions and which ever one you like best go with it? From a scientific stand point there is no evidence of spiritualism or any deity. Prayer has been tested and found to be less effective then a placibo.
-
Why does spirituality or god get a pass on this? How do you know the Muslims don't have it right and Christianity has it wrong? Or maybe the Hindus have it right? Or the Shinto? Why would spiritualism and deitys get a pass from scientific analysis? Is it just because you are emotionally invested in Christianity?
-
Huh, kind of like Robocop! Only with out robocop himself!
-
Just because you believe something to be real doesn't mean it is. The human mind often sees things that aren't really there. Illusionists take advantage of this all of the time. That is why humans came up with science. Science is used to really examine the world around us and filter out those things that are just old wives tales and bring to light what the world is really like. It's much better then just relying on an ancient text.
-
Then how do you know it's real?
-
You're right anyone can believe anything regardless of evidence or proof. Doesn't mean anything they believe in actually exists no matter how many people believe. To really confirm your belief you need evidence that can be tested and reproduced by anyone. There is no proof or evidence of any god anywhere. There is no evidence that believing or disbelieving has any effect on the quality of life.
-
I grew up with Christianity. No it wasn't all sunshine and roses. Now I don't believe the bullshit promises and my life is just fine.
-
Maybe so , but I for one never argue with success. The answers found in the Bible have enabled millions of people to live fulfilled and successful lives over the millennia that would have other wise wasted their existence. My life isn't any worse without the Bible or God. You will need evidence to back up this claim that with out the Bible their life would have somehow been worse.

They usually put the video up on monitors around the packing area for everyone to watch. You can watch the rounds as they are being judged. -

I think it is, although I am a competitor so I see things from a different perspective. You can watch the rounds being judged in real time. If you enjoy watching skydiving it should be entertaining. Meeting the big names in competitive skydiving is always interesting. -
anyone's got a spare 50$ for our friend Sangi!?
beowulf replied to virgin-burner's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I am glad that Sangi isn't paralized for life and not dead. But I don't really have any interest in donating any money. He took the risks and is paying the price. He needs to just man up and take his medicine. He had ample warning that he was exceeding his obvious skill level. He posted plenty of video to confirm that besides the obvious low jump numbers and high wingloading. Now he gets to pay the price for not listening. -
And zero evidence to back up this claim. All you have is an imagined god based on ancient texts of questionable origin. While there is much evidence of an evolutionary process that continues today.

If I were you I would expect to buy two suits eventually. There really isn't any good suit for both freefly and RW. Right now you should just get an RW suit and later on when you want to freefly buy a freefly suit.

How do you know the Bible is right?
-
Oh, well, that's OK then. No harm in killing and maiming little brown kids. I didn't address the Iraqi children because that wasn't a part of the discussion.
-
Their called volunteers. No one is forcing them to join up.
-
You have a really screwed up way of looking at things if you really equate those two scenarios. Military volunteers are not the same thing.

Amazon was referring to Western Children. Amazon seems to me to be saying since Americans send their children to war this example of small children being abducted and killed for ritual sacrificial purpose isn't all that bad. That's pretty fucked up.
