I think what Kallend means to say is in a proper track you should have a slower vertical speed. For you to have a faster vertical speed then you were probably diving not tracking. Tracking should generate some lift while gaining forward speed.

opening high is not always the smart decision. It really depends on where you were in the exit sequence. I won't open high if I am not the last person out of the plane, because I don't want to risk having someone accidentally end up freefalling through my canopy for any reason. I would rather deal with landing out. That is not to say you didn't make the right decision. I wasn't there I don't know what your situation was like. I am just bringing this up so that anyone considering opening higher then planned thinks about what could happen. Landing out isn't a mistake. Sometimes the best decision is to land out.

around jump number 150 I got fixated on making it back and ended up being too low to turn so I landed down wind while watching swoopers have to abort their swoops due to me landing down wind in front of them! I sat on the ground for a couple of hours really thinking hard about that one. around jump number 500 did a 4 way sunset jump that turned out to be a night jump. Looking down at the lights of a city at night that I am not familar with and trying to decide where to land was pretty scary. There were numerous other mistakes made in this jump that I am embarassed to even think about. But I didn't get killed or even hurt, that was mostly luck. I happened to choose the right blacked out area to land in. It was a somewhat educated guess, I was sure there was clear land in front of the High School that I had driven past on the way to the dropzone. Turned out to be a soccer field.

The original post didn't specify deliberate actions. It specified errors as in "packing errors". Packers are not perfect they make mistakes. Unless a packer goes out of their way to sabotage gear they shouldn't be liable at all. Just proving that a packing error was the cause of an accident would be very diffucult.
-
In that scenario I would probably sue. For someone to deliberately put my life in jeopardy just for their own gain they deserve to be sued. That kind of deliberate action is not protected by any kind of waiver. A waiver does not free the DZO from any and all rules. All of the FAA rules still apply as do every other law available. The waiver doesn't mean that the DZO can knowingly do things to put your life in added danger or risk beyond the normal skydiving. He can't go and sabotage your gear just for kicks with out any worrys. Just like he can't put a gun to your head and pull the trigger with out being charged with murder.

I wouldn't jump there. Even if it were only 10 minutes away from my apartment I would go somewhere else.
-
I suppose so. I didn't put any thought into which sports I suggested.
-
no problem, the only reason that I would even suggest other sports is that the problem that he has with the waiver suggests that if and when he did have an accident he would look around for someone to sue. That would make me very uncomfortable being around him on a skydive.
-
It was just a suggestion. I don't see how that would limit them to just golf and bowling. I chose those because the complaint was about safety. Those are both much safer then skydiving.
-
ya know I don't really feel bad about sounding condescending when I suggest golf or bowling to someone who is worried about who is liable when or if he gets hurt skydiving. If he can't man up and take responsibility for his own choices and not look for someone else to blame for his own potential mistakes or the potential for others to make mistakes then he doesn't need to be doing such high risk sports. Anything can and will happen in skydiving. From the moment you step into the plane till you touch ground and walk safely into the hanger anything can happen. It's a choice to skydive, the danger is something that is part of that choice and needs to be understood and accepted.

You should read the warning that comes with a new container or parachute. You would probably really hate that.
-
If you can't accept that risk then you should consider other alternatives such as golf or bowling.

Actual Negative Impact of Illegal immigration
beowulf replied to aftermid's topic in Speakers Corner
That would happen no matter what the situation is. As expenses go up businesses pass that cost on to the consumer. -
I don't think this era of Islamic terrorism will shine too brightly on the history of Islamic nations either. I didn't say that the US should not try to do the right thing. I do think that no matter what country is at the top they will be hated and will have to deal with some form of terrorism.
-
Show me which country wouldn't have the same goals if they were in the same position as the US. There are much worse countries out there then the US. If the US were to fall from being the top world power it just be replaced by some other country that would be just as hated or more so. I don't think this war was created by any country, like I said it is a religous war.
-
What would you think is the best strategy? I see this as the classic Two crabs in the same bucket story where neither crab will allow the other to escape. Are you of the opinion that this war was created for political gain by US politicians?
-
Humanity is pretty selfish overall.
-
NK just may preemtively strike the US, but it will probably be followed by their country being turned into a desolate radio active waste land. Hopefully they are not willing to go that far. As far as I can tell Kim Jung Il is crazy but not that stupid. The cold war idea of MAD is still very possible.
-
That doesn't matter now. What is done is done. We have to deal with the situation at hand. I personally don't think that is true. I think these people are looking for any reason pursue their terrorist war. I think their goal is to spread Islam any way they can. They want more and more Islamic republics till it covers the whole world. This is a religous war that has been going on for thousands of years.
-
This whole mess is a damned if you and damned if you don't scenario. If you do something about terrorism it will foster more terrorists. If you don't then the terrorists that exist will continue on their mission. Either way terrorists and terrorism is here to stay. I think it is better to take the war too them rather then try to keep a defense only strategy. A good offense is the best defense.

just make sure, you know I was joking? I just forgot to put in the Although there are plenty of people here that would be serious.

It's the country between Mexico and the US

What makes risks acceptable versus unacceptable?
beowulf replied to lawrocket's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
personal choice is what makes some risks more acceptable then others. I have jumped in winds up to 32 mph. Some days I will do that and other days I won't. Some days I want the added risk other days I don't. -
Interesting and how would know if someone were saved or not?
-
Guess we will all find out soon enough. It's not about rejecting it, it's about just plain not believing it to be true. I think this whole God belief is just wishful thinking from people can't handle the thought of dieing and there being nothing else. So people make up all kinds of Gods and Goddesses to explain where people go when they die. Makes life nice and convenient when there is an explaination.
