  1. Well you see my dilemma. What you gave me wasn't evidence. You told me something happened that you believe to caused by god, but you have nothing to back that up. Now you tell me god is not flesh and bones, but he is omnipotent and omnipresent and can do anything. But he can't appear as flesh and bones? He wants us to believe in him, but provides no proof. Hmm what makes him any better then Allah? or Vishnu?
  2. What evidence is there that these things were done by god? Just because they happened doesn't mean god did it. Apparently your definition of hard evidence and mine differ also. Can you reproduce these results and show that they could only be done by god?
  3. Then why would mention it? How would I benefit from it? It appears that you definition of evidence doesn't match mine.
  4. Any evidence available should be tested as much as possible by many people to determine if it actually does support the existence of god. If I tell you I have a rock that sticks to iron but never show it to you and never demonstrate it to you but instead give you a book that says I have it then how do you know that I am not lying? I want to see something that makes sense. Telling me that a feeling you had when you read a book at a certain time when you were feeling lonely and down pointed to god does not mean anything to me.
  5. And that is the question. Why would you believe in something with out any tangible evidence? Just having a book that self proclaims to be written by god is not evidence of anything. I can proclaim myself to be whatever I want, but it doesn't make it so.
  6. You know your not going to convince me of anything and I know that I am not going to convince you of anything here, but this is an interesting conversation that really makes me wonder how you could possibly believe so strongly in your god with no physical or tangible evidence. Everyone that I have talked to on this subject seems to point everything to a feeling. That they felt God do this or that. My biggest question is how do you know it was God? How do you know that what you feel isn't just what you want to feel and therefore it's like placebo affect? If you stop asking questions then you stop learning and become blind to reasoning.
  7. Hey this Speakers Corner right? Gotta stir the pot.
  8. Beowulf meet Hairyjuan, ... Oh, I see you have already met. Just because you had warm and fuzzy feelings at certain key points in your life doesn't mean god was speaking to you. But you choose to interpret them that way. I don't see how you could call that evidence.
  9. there is more evidence of Alexander the Great existing then there is of Jesus Christ and there is no evidence available of the Christian God existing.
  10. God's were created by men out of fear of the unknown. Not knowing where we came from. Not knowing where we are going. Not knowing why we are here. This fear caused men to look for answers. The easiest answer is God did it. I think the real answer is just that there is no answer. Not all questions have an answer.
  11. your "evidence" is so subjective and arbitrary that I can't place any value on it at all. I don't understand how you can believe it. If you look hard enough you will always find what you are looking for, whether it is actually there or not.
  12. Christians have been wait a long time and they still think it's going to happen any minute. If they have been wrong for a thousand years what makes you think it will happen soon?
  13. yeah that and the second coming.
  14. there has yet to be any evidence of a God listening. If it doesn't make sense to me that why would I believe it?
  15. What is available? If you start with a theory and try to find the evidence your search is already flawed. Start with evidence and then form a theory.
  16. I'm not religious, or anti-religious, but when someone says they 'pray for me everyday', I thank them just like I'd thank someone that says they 'think well of me and wish me good things everyday'. I suspect you two have some kind of regular friendly banter going on. But, if not, it's pretty much the opposite of what you are doing. If not, it's pretty clear on these forums who the nice guys are in the debate. As long as I don't live very close to her where she can try to take over my life and control me everything is fine. Nothing like a thousand mile buffer zone to keep things amicable.
  17. actual evidence that can quantified and stand to repeated attempts to discredit.
  18. and she is very religous. She prays for me every day and just doesn't seem to work. I guess god isn't listening.
  19. How is your belief any more valid then say a Hindu? or any other religion?
  20. You talk to him? Right? I would say that takes imagination.
  21. oooh looks like I hit a nerve! I don't recall any name calling? The greenies would have said something. Why do Christians in still think they are the persecuted minority?? It's just not true anymore. Christianity is by far the largest group in the US.
  22. And I shall dine in Valhalla with Odin, that is as long as I die in battle and the Valkries can carry me there.
  23. There is no evidence of a god or gods. The concept of god or gods was created by humans to explain anything that they didn't understand. As we learn more and more about the world around us the less we attribute to god or gods.
  24. http://www.reuters.com/article/oddlyEnoughNews/idUSKLR34405320070220 Glad I don't live there.
