Downsizing keeps you Sharp!
skygod7777 replied to NewClearSports's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
i've always looked at it as can i bring it straight in and hit the center of the pea's, can i hook it, swoop and stop in the center, and can i bring it in in half brakes and land in the center of the peas. the last one is kinda hard on the legs, but on a smaller canopy you need to know how to stop the forward movement if you have to land in someone back yard. this is why i like doing high altitude hop n' pops and fly around with larger canopies, it lets me know my canopy in slow flight. later -
uh........why?? i don't because i don't need to, but i used to on a demo fx that i had for a couple months, and had nothing but great openings. later

you may be right, but until there is some more thought into it, and it is a safer design, i don't like it. have you ever tested this design on a cutaway?? even a practice one on the ground? and it seam like to me, and this may just be what i think and not be true, but it would seam like it takes a while to get done. hell, i thought putting them in velcro takes too long, so i put stops on my risers about 2" from the bottom to hold it down. again, this is just my opinion. obviously you like it, and no one will change your mind about it, i just hope you do a little more "thinking" on it and make it a safer design. later

i have heard mixed opinions on this. i'm not sure which one i really go with, considering i use both front risers, and lean in my harness. i see the distortion of the canopy thing, but also you can't get around as fast just using harness. so i use both, so then i don't distort the canopy as much, and get around fast. i my usuall set up is a 270 hook (carve what ever, it's not snapped, but i'm flat with the canopy) later

what's up. i was talking to sunrise rigging today about my wings that i'll be ordering in the next day or so, and was asking them if i could get the same material that is on my jumpsuit for my mid flap stripes (the matalic stuff, like on alchemy's rig). they said sure not problem, but i need to supply them with the material, because they had some, but only enought to do pin stripes. so my question is were do i get it?? any one know?? thanks

How far do YOU drive to get your skydiving fix?
skygod7777 replied to schattenjaeger's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
i live about 7 or 8 miles away from the dz. and this is the furthest i've ever lived from a dz. i used to live at the end of the runway of my parents place (or that's where i the house was, i lived in the summer time in the upstairs video room on the dz). later -
if the main is tso'd and the rigger says it is air worthy, then yes. but you don't really want to use something that was a main as a reserve. later
-
there vectran, or most of them are. you can custom order them to be spectra. mine are vectran. and most people do get vectran on them. i'm not sure what canopies are designed this way, i know the cobalts are, but i don't know of any others for sure. later

i was thinking that same damn thing. 80 lbs is a lot. later
-
that's a good possibility. i've never really thought of it that way. that's what i've told a lot of people, i got the canopy because he swoops like a mother. and i don't care as much about the opening. although i used to have one that opened very hard, so i sent it back. later
-
that seams like a good idea. with some of the velcro ones my buddy vern built he put a little piece of elastic like what is on your chest straps and sewed it to the back piece of the horizontal strap going around the reserve container. so he can fold the extra type IV into that, then under canopy he reaches back and pulls it out. i personally like the type 17 on the risers. this is what i use. i only put it on the front riser, about, i don't know 2 inches up maybe 3. this works well for me. and it's much quicker than having to fool with wrapping a strap around my slider and all that (which isn't really that big of deal, just takes time) edit: spelling later
-
mine used to do this. and as said above after about 50 or 75 jumps, it goes away. i think it's not really packing that does it, that it may be more of you while it's opening, and eventually you calm down in the harness, or what ever and it opens better. later

what about that snap in freefall?? wouldn't it be floppin around. later

3, 4 who cares. it was young later

no, rook nelson made his first jump at like 3. i'm not sure if rook was the youngest, but it would seam like it. later

jeff is now, and so am i. now. but like zach, when i was under 16, i wasn't breaking any rules if i wasn't a member. i was told this by mike, he asked me one day if i was a member, and at the time i was about to become a member, and he was like no no no, you don't want to do that. if you do that you'll be breaking the rules . later

do you mind me asking why?? i am one of those special kids (i know, not that kind of "special ) that got to start very early. i made my first tandem when i was 7 years old. i did 10 tandems over 4 years and then when i was 11 i made my first solo. it was a static line. 38 static lines later, i was on freefall. i am 16 now, have about 1100 logged jumped (i would have more, but i didn't log very well for a year). why is this a problem for a dz kid?? for the average kid off the street, maybe not. but for people like me, zach mullins, or jeff mullins what is the problem (there are more that everyone has heard of but they are all over 18 by now)?? we all grew up around it. later
