  1. Some of them. Not willing to go further than that. Statute of Limitations has been reached on all of them, but I'm not willing to put the stupid shit I did when I was young out there. But I never got caught. My answer to the question "Have you ever been arrested?" is 'No'. I actually would get that question from Canadian customs every once in a while. They take DUI more seriously up there, and are known for refusing entry to people who have convictions.
  2. There were over 77k nursing home residents that died in New York & New Jersey? While it was a stupid thing to do, they admitted the mistake and stopped the policy. OTOH, Trump still insists that the pandemic is 'largely done' and blames the Chinese.
  3. Sure. There's a reason those outlets trust the NYT. Please cite all of the major stories in the last 6 months where the NYT was shown to be 'totally bogus' and published 'without investigation'.

    Q

Nah. If Trump and/or associates get dragged into this, Ron will just pretend that it's the 'Deep State' framing them for crimes they didn't commit. Don't kid yourself. This is VERY MUCH a political issue. Epstein had lots and lots and lots of political connections. How do you think he got off so easy down in Florida? I posted this link in another thread, because of the tweet about the Trump campiagn eagle logo. But read the beginning: https://www.facebook.com/heathercoxrichardson/?__cft__[0]=AZUx1O5tOAlJg_l5No2jizCoiW-rGvPmucEdO9tzqfXRjC27SKf6kEobVC0j8i1GKspeXGEGM2rxQbhoKwjcxjrw5xun6Vwn6ALiLAYv-xSUgJeq11LsPCahQoKdFzW1gR4oh2A_K0i3ta3xh8xLDXjzD0a45wbgeruxbY-7edAIryL1JY5Tg6MAkV05KRwZJUs&__tn__=-UC%2CP-R The idea that Epstein was that close to Barr is very disturbing. Toss in the fact that Barr removed the Federal Attorney in the district that this case is being handled, and it starts to really raise eyebrows. Or it would under 'normal' cirucumstances. After what the "justice" department did with the Flynn case, nothing surprises me much anymore. Edit to add: Oops. The Heather Cox Richardson that I'm referencing is from July 2 (Thursday). The one I was referencing in the other thread was from July 1.
  5. On Twitter, conservative Tom Nichols, a professor of international affairs at the U.S. Naval War College said, “I've been pretty hard on people who make the Nazi comparisons around here, but Christ, even *I* saw this one right away. This is not some standard American eagle, this is a Trump graphics guy thinking he's being clever and trolling the world by saying "mayyyybe it's close." Heather Cox Richardson on FB (she has pretty long posts, this is near the bottom): https://www.facebook.com/heathercoxrichardson/?__cft__[0]=AZUx1O5tOAlJg_l5No2jizCoiW-rGvPmucEdO9tzqfXRjC27SKf6kEobVC0j8i1GKspeXGEGM2rxQbhoKwjcxjrw5xun6Vwn6ALiLAYv-xSUgJeq11LsPCahQoKdFzW1gR4oh2A_K0i3ta3xh8xLDXjzD0a45wbgeruxbY-7edAIryL1JY5Tg6MAkV05KRwZJUs&__tn__=-UC%2CP-R Edit to add: The quote is out of the post from July 1 (Wednesday). She added one on Thursday, so it's not the first one.
  6. How about retailers? Those selling the gas, deisel & heating oil. Wisconsin has a 'minimum markup' law. Gas stations have to sell their gas at a minimum price above what they pay. It keeps the big chain guys from undercutting the competition and driving them out of business. Back in 08 or so when gas was super high, those laws meant gas stations were reaping large profits and there was some talk of changing it (flat rate instead of percentage was suggested). Once prices dropped back down, that all disappeared. So now the profit margin on gas has dropped significantly. While many might go "Oh boo hoo, the gas retailers aren't making as much", the reality is that if there's no competition, big chains like Wal-Mart will have a monopoly on gas. Do you think Wal Mart wouldn't jack up the price to make more if they were the only seller in town?
  7. Well, when the "right" includes people like Miller and Bannon, when the president calls Nazis & KKK "very fine people, then yes, Bolton & Will are now 'leftists'. They haven't moved. But the end points have moved so much the 'center' is now well right of where it used to be. Ronald Reagan was a 'hardcore conservative' in 1980. Now? Ha!
  8. So increased education, nutrition, housing, ect are making the problem worse? Life expectancy has increased significantly. The number of kids in the US suffering from actual malnutrition has dropped to near zero. However, average income for minorities compared to whites hasn't changed much at all since the 50s. Maybe if the systemic racism was addressed, the 'social programs' would have a chance of doing more to actually change peoples' lives.
  9. This is from a week or so ago. Three cops in North Carolina had conversations after one accidently turned on the dashcam. A routine audit of those tapes found some conversation that was rather disturbing. Including the cops looking forward to killing Black people during a coming 'Civil War'. They got fired. Prosecutors are reviewing the cases these officers brought. They've already thrown out pending cases, because they don't want to have to put these former officers on the stand. https://www.npr.org/sections/live-updates-protests-for-racial-justice/2020/06/25/883358818/wilmington-n-c-police-fires-three-officers-over-racist-comments-caught-on-tape
  10. It's called 'propaganda'. Tell lies, get people to belive them, gain power, tell more lies. It's worked pretty fucking good for Trump so far. No. WHATEVER the truth is, that's what's important. Trump and his minions scream 'FAKE NEWS' all the time. Yet they spread the most outrageous lies. Trump lies ALL THE TIME ABOUT EVERYTHING. His followers then spread the lies and deny the truth. It's called 'gaslighting' and it's despicable. As I noted above, it's propaganda, pure and simple. And it's destroying the country.
  11. Why am I not surprised you belive that blatantly racist bullshit? You can't even get the claimed number right. https://afropunk.com/2019/09/no-andrew-sullivan-70-percent-of-black-kids-arent-fatherless/
  12. Yeah, funny how he's ignoring the bounty Putin put on US troops and how Trump ignored it too.
  13. Totally different. The head of the eagle is facing right.
  14. We're having the same basic discussion in two different threads. The "Atlantic" story linked in post 2552 covers it fairly well. Pelosi went to Chinatown (a district in San Francisco, in the US) after Trump attacked the Chinese here in the US. At that time, the infection wasn't really taking off. Cuomo & de Blasio were given a shit situation, that got really bad really fast. They made mistakes, but admitted them, did their best to correct them and now have the situation somewhat under control. New York is reopening in a measured manner, following the science. Unlike Florida, Texas, Arizona... And Wisconsin. We're seeing a pretty big spike here in the last week or so. New case numbers double or triple what they were a few weeks ago. Mostly the 'younger crowd'. Reports are saying that many (most?) of the infections are coming from people gathering indoors, in larger groups. Not surprising at all.
  15. Pfft. Name one. Show me one city where 'looting and arson' were not stopped. Or where 'murder and mayhem' happened on anything other than a very small scale. In fact, the guy who killed the police officers in California has been pretty clearly linked to the 'Boogaloo' movement. You know, those 'white supremacist' guys. https://www.forbes.com/sites/tommybeer/2020/06/16/accused-killer-of-california-cops-was-associated-with-right-wing-boogaloo-movement/?fbclid=IwAR2Mp_83_zzQn1YvtayCsHsq93m3llT2mnH7cJWLynwt5PtOMXQAsfo-Bi0#218b9d3959bd
  16. How so? Honest question. New York got clobbered at the beginning because Trump refused to close the border. Lots & lots of people came in from Europe, when Italy was clearly infected and getting worse. There's been some research showing that the virus in NYC was brought in from Italy, not direct from China. New Jersey basically got the fallout from NY. Both of those are doing what they can to bring it under control and are having some degree of success. However, Florida, Texas and Arizona (along with California) are 'setting the standard' for what happens when the society decides to re-open without any semblance of control. Those three (four) have the greatest level of increase in the past couple weeks. Well above national levels. Is it telling that those 3 have "R" governors (CA is a D). Or is it simply the fact that we, as a whole, have failed miserably in addressing this? This "Atlantic" article was linked a couple days ago: https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2020/06/how-white-house-coronavirus-response-went-wrong/613591/ It details the failures that made us the country with the highest infection and death rates, by a large (I mean HYOOGE) margin. It lays much of the blame at Trump's feet. One of the most disgusting parts of it is that we used to have people on the ground in China. Actual health experts working in the hospitals & clinics in China. Interacting with the doctors & health officials. If those people had been in place back in December & January, we would have had decent warning. The obfuscation and deception by the Chinese health officials simply wouldn't have been possible. The reason those people weren't in place? Trump couldn't be bothered to fill the positions. Like so many others.

    Q

The Tampa link is from over a month ago. At the height of the BLM protests. Got anything that's actually happening right now?
  18. Well, I had to look it up. WI's is quite different, and much more restrictive. However, MO's says you don't have to retreat. These idiots actually came out. They advanced. That's a very different situation. And the protesters were NOT on their property. Not that I can find. They were out in the street. So I think the application of Castle Doctrine is not going to work.
  19. My understanding (and if I'm wrong, I welcome correction) is that for that sort of place, the streets are owned by the HOA & the fees paid by the homeowners pay for the upkeep (fixing, plowing, ect). Technically, they are private property and the property owner can decide if someone is allowed or not. While people with legitimate reasons can legally be there, these protesters were trespassing. And they apparently vandalized a gate. Those are both crimes. However, neither of those is a valid reason to threaten the use of deadly force. Pointing a gun at someone (the woman) is 'assault with a deadly weapon'. Waving it around (the man) is 'brandishing'. Both of those are crimes. More serious ones. Their argument that they were 'in fear for their life' is pretty weak. Did the protesters attack any other houses in the neighborhood? You know, the ones without armed idiots outside of them? Or were these two afraid because there was a group of scary black people in their street, and they don't allow those kind of people in their neighborhood? I think I see the woman as more frightening than the man. He's just holding the rifle, waving it around randomly. She's got the pistol up to eye level (using the sights), with her finger on the trigger. Deliberately aiming it. At people. Anybody want to guess what would happen if you pointed a gun at a cop like that? I can see a pretty valid argument that someone on the street could have shot her, and legitimately claimed self defense. She was intentionally pointing the gun at people, deliberately aiming it, with her finger on the trigger. I'm as pro-gun as it gets, but these two were way out of line. I hope they get prosecuted. I'm not super confident that will happen. They are white and rich. And in St Louis.
  20. What was the 'imminent danger'? You are aware that pointing a gun at someone without justification (which isn't present in this case) is "assault with a deadly weapon", right? But they are rich & white, so they'll get a pass. Prosecutor in St Louis: St Louis elected its first black prosecutor, Kimberly Gardner, a criminal justice reformer, in 2016. Gardner said in a public statement on Monday that she was “alarmed” to see an incident “where peaceful protestors were met by guns and a violent assault”, and that her office was investigating the incident along with the police.“We must protect the right to peacefully protest, and any attempt to chill it through intimidation or threat of deadly force will not be tolerated,” Gardner wrote. “Make no mistake: we will not tolerate the use of force against those exercising their first amendment rights.” Source: https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/jun/29/st-louis-couple-point-guns-at-protesters?fbclid=IwAR2Ja0cH91SMIVX3fe545rYYC0GDdaph_TclP31LzojHhKJZe0i691P3MsE
  21. I haven't seen any suggestions for a used container with a harness resize. It's a potential alternative to spending all that money on a new H/C. If you find a container that fits the canopies you want, get the serial number from the seller. Go to the manufacturer's website and find the 'measure for a harness' page. Get yourself measured. You can't do it yourself. Any comptenent rigger or tailor (or anyone who can read a tape measure and read and follow directions) can do it. Send both the S/N from the H/C and your measurements to the manufacturer and inquire about a harness resize. Some stuff is easy & fairly inexpensive. Some stuff (the yoke size in particular) is not.

    Q

Wow. Your grasp on reality isn't getting any better. Johnson pushed pretty hard to get it through. And both sides voted pretty strongly to pass it (although both Ds & Rs from the south opposed it). From Wiki: In his first address to a joint session of Congress on November 27, 1963, Johnson told the legislators, "No memorial oration or eulogy could more eloquently honor President Kennedy's memory than the earliest possible passage of the civil rights bill for which he fought so long."[16] By party Original House version: Democratic Party: 152–96 (61–39%) Republican Party: 138–34 (80–20%) The Senate version:[25] Democratic Party: 46–21 (69–31%) Republican Party: 27–6 (82–18%) The Senate version, voted on by the House:[25] Democratic Party: 153–91 (63–37%) Republican Party: 136–35 (80–20%) Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Civil_Rights_Act_of_1964 The economy is being 'run into the ground' by the coronavirus. Of course, Trump & the Rs have done a fabulous job with that. The R governors of Florida & Texas are finding out how stupid it was to open everything up. But, as usual, you want to blame the "liberals" for it.
  23. The goal being 'all the money and all the power' is probably pretty close. After the Soviet Union collapsed, and the US 'took credit' for winning the Cold War, what became Russia was deeply humiliated. Nobody was really afraid of them anymore. Putin was head of the KGB, and he wants to return to the 'glory years'. As I noted above, Putin was head of the old KGB. That's not a position for the 'faint of heart'. There was a discussion about Beria (Stalin's KGB head) a few weeks ago. Some people were unaware how truly evil he was. I don't think Putin rises to that level of evil (real psychopaths were not encouraged in the later USSR), but he rises high enough. He's been having people murdered in various ways the whole time he's been in power. Russian journalists who criticize him end up dead in a ditch somewhere, usually with their fingers removed, smashed or otherwise mutilated (it's a message). This spring, several doctors who complained about lack of medical equipment 'fell out of windows'. He was a bit more circuspect about it internationally until recently. Since Trump took office, he knows that his largest threat, the US, is in his pocket and he can do pretty much whatever he wants. So he does. The Trumpettes won't criticize their 'dear leader'. They simply won't listen to what he's done and is doing. It's all "Fake News". It was pretty apparent from January or Febuary of 2017 that Trump is, for all intents and purposes, a Russian agent. Why do we keep forgetting it?
  24. Well, the question of whether or not Trump can be investigated and his records subpoenaed is still before them. I have a feeling that his uncharachteristic restraint (both in person and online) in not blasting their prior rulings (except to say that 'they don't like him') is in the hope that by 'playing nice', they will be more likely to rule in his favor. Given the fact that Roberts has ruled along the lines of 'law and precedent' in the cases that have come down (particularly the abortion case - where he disagreed with the law but insisted on following precedent), I would hope that they will rule along the lines of 'no man is above the law'. THAT meltdown will be rather spectacular (if it gets ruled that way).
  25. The US doesn't add them in either. They were doing it at the end of May, but have since stopped. I think. I can only find stories from the end of May that said they were combining them and planned on stopping. Positive antibody tests are still being counted in the 'probable' cases, but not the 'confirmed' cases. And Florida never combined the numbers. Ohio is not counting them in confirmed, but is in probables: https://www.news5cleveland.com/news/continuing-coverage/coronavirus/local-coronavirus-news/are-antibody-tests-included-in-the-states-reporting-yes-and-no
