Since when is Bill Clinton the 'left's hero"? Hell, when's the last time he was in the news? By most accounts, he was pretty much a sleazeball. I wouldn't be totally surprised to find out he had sex with underage girls (technically not a 'pedophile', who go after very young girls). I would hope he would face consequences for that if it turns out to be right.

Yeah. A few things have changed. Skybytch (Lisa) asked the same question a year & a half ago. My answer to her is still the same:

Funny how the right is perfectly ok with blatant lies. Paid for by 'dark money' groups who want the country to 'open up'. https://www.nbcnews.com/tech/social-media/dark-money-pac-s-coordinated-reopen-push-are-behind-doctors-n1235100 How many people have to die before the right will accept reality? Or will they just keep pretending it's not a problem?

Not necessarily. I can 'absentee vote' in person at my city hall. There is over 1/3 of the country that supports this idiot and his agenda. I know people who think that the feds in Portland should switch to 'real' ammo. They want Trump to send all the blacks back to Africa. And all the Latinos back to Mexico. I agree that the military (both active and not) will, to a large degree oppose him and his criminal behavior. But he's already trying to delay the election. That was out today. I honestly don't believe it will happen. But I fully believe Trump wants to put a dictatorship in place. As do many of his supporters. And to think it cannot happen is rather naive. And the chaos that would happen should he seriously try is frightening. I think that's what Putin is trying to get to happen. To weaken the US as much as possible. He's done a pretty good job of pulling Trump's strings to make it happen. See the troop withdrawl from Germany.

Nothing about this is a protest. (NSFW Racial Expletives)
wolfriverjoe replied to turtlespeed's topic in Speakers Corner
No Ron, we know exactly where you are 'coming from'. So far, just about every major act of violence during the BLM protests has led to the arrest of a white person. While a few of them were 'liberals', most were just like this guy. White supremacists trying to spark violence that would be blamed on the protesters. You fear armed black people. You fear Antifa. Yet those aren't the ones committing the violent acts. -
No clue who you are or what your experience is, but I would very strongly suggest getting training for both the gun and motorcycle if you don't have experience with them. Even if you do have experience, but not recently, 'recurrency' training would be a good idea.

I got it last night and for a while this morning.

I don't watch CNN. I don't have cable (or satellite or anything). There are 'secret police' on the streets of Portland. They are assaulting people. Beating a dude who's just standing there holding his hands out is assault. Pointing a shotgun at very close range at the head of a person who's just standing there is assault with a deadly weapon. Grabbing a woman detainee by the breast and buttock is sexual assault (that last one is alleged, the other two have been filmed). They're 'proactively arresting' people. That means arresting them before they commit a crime. Trump has made it clear he's sending those agents to cities and states controlled by Democrats. Funny how the AG testified that he 'wasn't aware' of the ARMED Alt-Right demonstrators who stormed a state capitol and surrounded a governor's mansion (and hanged an effigy of the governor). Trump has had his minion interfere in the justice process. Flynn & Stone. Both are unprecedented. Barr denied that during sworn testimony. Not to mention attacking the press at every opportunity, pretending that there's widespread fraud with mail in ballots, calling for the military to quell protected protest (which I'm VERY happy to say that the military outright refused to do), and a host of other things right out of the 'authoritarian dictator' playbook. Given the response of the military, the governor of Oregon (and many other state & local officials there), along with the 'moms' 'dads' & 'veterans' who are standing up to the federal 'storm troopers', I don't believe Trump will succeed. But I don't doubt that he will keep trying.
-
No. But we are quickly approaching an authoritarian dictatorship. Kinda like Russia or North Korea.
-
He does. He has for a while now. He did say that masks were not really necessary. Back in March. The full comment was along the lines of: When there's no community spread, masks aren't needed. Of course, the Alt-Right crowd takes that completely out of context and runs with it. Just like that pic.

Well, let's see... Top headlines: Coronavirus. The US has 4% of the world's population, and 25% of the cases & deaths. Those rather grim facts can be laid almost entirely at Trump's feet. He ignored the problem for a couple months, pretended it wasn't serious for another month, tried to force the country to re-open, held 'virus briefings' that were both pathetic and funny - thinly disguised campaign speeches that were so full of lies you couldn't keep up. Now, the much of the rest of the world is getting it under control, and we are seeing a million new cases in 15 days. So he finally says 'it's going to get worse'. No Shit Sherlock. Protests. The BLM protests haven't died down a whole lot. So, in order to both pretend he's "Law & Order" and to distract from corona, he sends unidentifed 'federal officers' in to Portland. Where there's been a lot of graffitti, but very little actual damage or violence... Until his thugs showed up. And are now 'proactively detaining' people. As in arresting them before they commit an actual crime. Russia. He had a chat with his master, Putin, the other day. Despite the overwheming information about Russia paying bounties for dead US soldiers, he didn't bring it up. His "Entourage". The shit his kids and their S/Os are pulling on a daily basis is really fucked up. Ivanka with Goya, Don Jr's sqeeze abandoning infected campaign workers in the middle of nowhere while she takes a private jet home (at the campaign's expense, of course), the list goes on and on. Look at the 'top stories' on any news site. See how many of them are about Trump or his minions. It's a fucking train wreck. Unfortunately, it's going to wreck the country. And it's almost entirely Trump's fault. Either through his action or his inaction. I've reached the point where I can no longer understand why anyone would actually support that fool. It seems to be that either they are so stupid and gullible that they are still being conned. Whether it's the 'socialsim' crap, or the 'great leader' crap, they still buy it. Or, it's that they are willing to ignore the lies, the crimes, the malfeasance and corruption because they support his racism and hatred. They support the sending of 'storm troops' to Portland because they are beating up on the 'liberals'. It goes along with some of the Trump signs I've seen. "Trump - Make Liberals Cry Again" Really. Their entire focus is on hurting people they don't like. Its fucking sick.

Nope. It's still censorship. Just because Twitter & FB aren't government entities, that doesn't mean silencing a particular narrative isn't 'censorship". What the 1sp protects against, as you noted, is government censorship. Mostly. Don't forget that some schools (government entities) ban certain books. And television is still heavily censored. By the FCC (you know, the Federal Communications Commission). However, the ridiculous and patently false narrative being spewed by "QAnon" is clearly dangerous. As are the fools that believe it. Kinda funny that they are SOOOOOOO worried about 'all those kids' being sexually abused by HRC, Soros, Bill Gates, et al, yet conveniently ignore the exact same behavior from Trump.

Easily. We added another million in 15 days. At that rate, another 6 mil in 90 days is just math. I wouldn't be surprised if we're accelerating, too. Very true.| But if you tested negative yesterday, it's pretty unlikely (not impossible) that you could be infectious today. So anyone who tests negative yesterday can most likely interact with people who are already close (wife & close friends) with little to no risk to those others. And that pic is just stupid. How long did that photog sit there and wait for Faucci to pull his mask down to take a drink, just to get a pic of him with his mask down. In case nobody is paying attention, there's a gazillion pics & videos out there of him wearing it (properly) in public.
-
15 days later, 4 million. Number was hit yesterday, the 23rd. Yay.

I do, however, think we should own up to our prior behaviors. You know, that whole "first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye" thing. And we should probably, as a part of that, stop treating traitors and genocidal maniacs as 'heroes'.

Interestingly, "The Roosevelts" was on PBS the other day, and I caught a few minutes of it. While they were certainly 'elites', the number of family members who served in WW2 was impressive.

There IS a problem with global warming... it stopped in 1998
wolfriverjoe replied to rushmc's topic in Speakers Corner
Reading the link Billvon provided, it seems like there's a difference between 'melting' and 'collapsing'. If it slides down into the water, it will be a big problem. It doesn't have to melt to do that. A quick search found this: https://www.wired.com/story/antarctica-thwaites-glacier-breaking-point/ -
Disagree. I think Douglas Adams put it rather nicely: “Many were increasingly of the opinion that they'd all made a big mistake in coming down from the trees in the first place. And some said that even the trees had been a bad move, and that no one should ever have left the oceans.”

Well, how about morons who are stupid enough to actually believe the "Q" garbage? And then act on that stupidity and, oh, let's say, go shoot up a pizza place. Because "Q" said there were child sex slaves in the basement... Except the building never had a basement. 8645110320

Trump expresses support for Ghislaine Maxwell
wolfriverjoe replied to billvon's topic in Speakers Corner
There's already stuff going around on FB that Trump supporters are (purportedly) saying that if the left is fine with a 16 year old setting policy on AGW, why do they have a problem with Epstein paying them for sex. -
How experienced fun jumper needs to be to jump around tandem?
wolfriverjoe replied to CoolBeans's topic in Tandem Skydiving
Nothing wrong with being curious and asking. Jumping with a friend who's doing their first tandem is something a lot of newer jumpers want to do ('a lot' meaning virtually all of them). But it's not something you have enough experience to do yet. As an old friend of mine put it: A tandem jump is a very complicated and specialized jump. It's NOT "just another jump". The tandem pair is very vulnerable in the air. They can't maneuver, they can't avoid anyone. The tandem student doesn't really understand what can happen (as a different friend, a TI puts it to the student: "You're scared because you don't know what's going to happen, I'm scared because I know what can happen). There have been a few incidents where a video flyer or 'lurker' (a regular jumper in the air with the tandem pair) has collided or entangled with them. Not all of them survived. I agree with Peter that the UPT requirements are a bit on the excessive side. But they're there for a reason. And the people that wrote them also pretty much 'wrote the book' on tandems. You can't (or at least shouldn't) jump with your friend. You can be on the plane with them (probably, depending on the DZ). You can be in the loading area, be on the plane ride up, have them watch you go out the door ahead of them. It's not quite the same as being with them in the air, but it's not bad. I've done that a bunch of times. -
Hi Jerry, Interesting that Michael Madigan, House Speaker for Illinois, was served with subpoenas for documents relating to ComEd, a different power company than the one in Ohio. No charges yet, but there are calls for him to step down. https://www.illinoispolicy.org/madigan-subpoena-shows-far-reach-of-federal-investigation/

Our new Secret Police and more renditions, lovely
wolfriverjoe replied to JoeWeber's topic in Speakers Corner
I don't think he was arrested (I could be wrong on that). He was just assaulted. For standing in the street. And asking questions (that's the real crime). -
Yeah. 20 million dead in the Soviet Union, 6 million Jews exterminated (along with a lot more other minorities, and 'enemies of the state'), not to mention the hundreds of thousands of US military. Sounds 'really good' to me.

Pffft. In order to paraphrase, he'd have to present what they actually said in somewhat different words (yes, I know you are smart enough to know the meaning of the word, Professor). I have not seen anything he says or posts about an opponent that accurately represents what they said. Either a paraphrase or a quote. Ever.
