  1. Fear of what? That the 'scary Democrats are coming for their guns?' The only thing Biden has said he wants to do is to put military style semi autos under the NFA. So why is there zero ammunition on the shelves? Why are there no pistols in the display case? OTOH, there were a bunch of AR platform rifles. I was at a Fleet Farm the other day, and the level of 'gone' was interesting. Which of the "President Elect's own words" justify that?
  2. Do you know how much a good heavy equipment operator makes?
  3. What about what Alito said? He pushed the day up a bit, which means this stuff will happen before other specific dates happen. From what the article said, it removes a couple of potential complications. Nobody quoted in the article seems to think this will change the outcome. Trump and his minions will lose... Again. Another one that he's going to lose: The Texas AG has filed suit to invalidate the election results from four other states: https://www.cnbc.com/2020/12/08/texas-sues-four-battleground-states-in-supreme-court-over-unlawful-election-results.html?fbclid=IwAR2rzDFwAiFKPz6LvpUwVC1oZscBWFV-oDjAKzW1pZLTNEb7qExavl2vo0Q Election officials from those states tend to disagree. They've used words like 'false and irresponsible', 'publicity stunt' and 'genuinely embarrassing'. A couple of legal experts called it 'wacko' and 'utter garbage'. Of course, the Texas AG is under investigation by the FBI for abuse of power. Maybe he thinks that if he sucks up to Trump enough, then he can get a pardon too. And I'm not angry at you Ron. I'm genuinely curious if you think that challenges to elections should be pursued no matter what? Or only if it's when the guy you like lost.
  4. Just out of curiosity, Ron... How would you have reacted if Obama & Hillary Clinton had done anything like this? She won the election. By 5 million votes. It was the way the EC is set up, compounded by Republican maneuvering, that allowed Trump to win. So if Obama had declared that HRC won, and refused to allow the transition to the incoming Trump administration, had continued to pretend the victory was fraudulent, had filed numerous lawsuits, all the same stuff Trump is doing. What would your response have been?
  5. The original article stated quite clearly that there were no body cams. And it's going to be far more of a "He said, They said, the Evidence says" type of thing. One more time, a black man is shot multiple times in the back. How many more times will this have to happen?
  6. That's odd. I've never had any guilt 'jammed down my throat'. I've simply been asked to understand and recognize that my skin color gives me advantages over people with different color skin (generally darker skin). And to do what I can to not perpetuate that. Which, admittedly, isn't a whole lot. But mostly to not ignore it.
  7. I understand that my concerns aren't entirely rational. And I certainly wouldn't argue that other people should delay getting it. I'm just not comfortable being an 'early adopter' of anything. I'm far enough down the 'risk scale' that I likely won't be seeing it anytime soon. I'm good with that. It just means that I have to keep taking precautions. I'm good with that too.
  8. The US networks have become fairly predictable. And they're basically doing the same show over & over. NCIS, CSI, ect. Cliched and ridiculous. I simply cannot watch them anymore. The Brits seem to do it just 'different enough' that I can actually watch it. I've seen a few episodes of 'Luther' on PBS. Those are interesting. There's also "Father Brown Mysteries" and "Death in Paradise" that are currently running on PBS.
  9. I have to admit that I'm somewhat 'vaccine shy' (I like that term). I'm not anti-vax in any way, shape or form, but the speed that these were pushed through is a bit concerning. I fully understand that delay will cause more death. And, so far, the side effects aren't very severe or common. But the stuff that longer term, more thorough testing would have found will be found by the public. So the fact that I'm nowhere near the 'front of the line' doesn't bother me at all. My life is pretty low risk for infection. So I'll let a whole lot of others get vaccinated, and see what all happens to them. I don't know of anything that I'll be doing before next summer that would require it, so that's not that big of an issue.
  10. Not "while you are sick". But as a continuing and permanent disability after you get over it. There are people who will use oxygen for the rest of their lives because their lungs were damaged. There are people with permanent heart damage. Some folks have permanently diminished senses of smell & taste. And apparently some will have permanent ED. And your party may be the first event, but there's lots of places that are announcing plans to require proof of vaccination. Quantas airlines is one. Ticketmaster is another.
  11. No, silly. He was wearing it. Just down below his chin. That's awesome.
  12. I agree. The idea that this is all some part of a big 'master plan' completely ignores the very clear fact that Trump has NO PLAN. None. He just reacts and does what his instincts tell him. And, I have to admit, he's pretty good at it. His ability to read people and tell them what they want to hear, so that they put money in his pockets is impressive. But to form a new party? One that siphons off the more gullible Rs? One that ends up undermining the Republicans as a party? Ha. Trump's 'Gimme Da Money' Pac is just another scam. He's going to siphon off the money, use it on his own companies, pay his kids huge salaries, all the same shit he's done with his other campaign money. And, in the overall picture of things, $200 million isn't all that much. It pales in comparison to the big money that comes in. I highly doubt Trump will see any of that sort of money again. Those donors are completely stupid. They've learned their lesson. One of those big donors is suing to get his couple of million back. It won't happen, but that level of donor isn't going to give up any more money to a lost cause.
  13. Ever been through the "Big Dig" in Boston? Something similar. Trucks only so (in theory ) professional drivers. Moderate speeds (say 50 mph-80km/h) mandatory following distances. No passing. No placarded hazmat. Enforced by cameras.
  14. Oh yeah? What about Nerdgirl? Her resume is pretty impressive. She's also the only person I know who tailored her behavior based on how she would field questions at her Senate confirmation hearing. She wouldn't do 'trespassing' BASE jumps for that reason.
  15. So what about the "Alt-Right terrorists" who were trying to kidnap (and probably murder) the Governor of Michigan? That's "ACTIVE INSURRECTION!!!!!!!" I know you don't care, but that's right next door to my home state (and they were planning on coming here). And this isn't the thirties. Rail carries a fairly small fraction of the freight that moves in the US. The majority goes by truck. Actual numbers vary depending on source, but somewhere between 15%-30% is train, somewhere between 60%-75% goes by truck. There are specific categories of freight that move more by train, and that's what these criminals were going after. But if you want to 'cripple the economy', go after interstates. Particularly major interchanges & bridges. With 8 or 10 'good' truck bombs (OKC sized), Chicago could be crippled. Traffic could still get in & out (and past) via the surface streets, but if I-80, I-90 & I-94 were blocked, much of the upper midwest would be screwed. There are ways to go around, but they add a lot of distance, especially from Wisconsin, Minnesota and anywhere north & west of that. And there's a LOT of freight that goes east from there.
  16. What the fuck are you talking about? The GI Bill goes back to World War 2.
  17. Did you have to worry about getting beat up or murdered if you talked to a white girl? Or even looked at one the "wrong way"?
  18. Well decorating the house & yard is something that can be done without coming into contact with anyone. It gives a tangible result. Also, getting in the car and driving around to see everyone else's lights is reasonably safe. So yeah, it's a way of spreading 'holiday cheer'. Without risking spreading anything else.
  19. Yup. It sums it up rather nicely, doesn't it. Not mine, feel free to steal, share, whatever.
  20. SNL cold opening. Read the comments. Among my favorites: After all of this is over, SNL will have to actually write stuff again. It's hardly satire when all of that stuff basically happened. (lots of them on that theme)
  21. Hi Jerry, Well, I've thought that the idiots pretending Covid is 'just a hoax' were going to demonstrate Darwin's principles quite well. This would be just another way for them to do it.
  22. Ok, we may now have something that will force all the ding-a-lings to take this seriously. Covid does a lot of different things to a lot of different anatomic systems. Respiratory is one, neurological is another. But one of the bigger issues is the damage it does to the vascular system (blood transportation). Like many diseases that affect the vascular system, one of the areas it hits hard is the small capillaries that do the 'final delivery' of blood to various places. One of those 'places' is the penis. That's right. Covid can cause Erectile Dysfunction: https://nypost.com/2020/12/05/covid-19-could-cause-erectile-dysfunction-doc-says/?fbclid=IwAR0KAVji4oKoQBjbdB5x0OoZwEOTRpC6QbxbLfUEhbGQDc8anrQTnS1HlWM Link is NY Post, but a search will find a variety of stories from a wide range of sources. Do you think knowing that a good case of Covid means the possibililty of a lifetime of ED will make the idiots take it seriously?
  23. Something I saw a month or so ago: If there's ever been a Supreme Court ruling that ensures other people have the same rights you take for granted, you have privilege. And, of course, forcing people to recognize that is "GENOCIDE!!!!!" Funny how horrible it is to force an opinion piece down people's throats, yet forcing them to live in poor neighborhoods, go to bad schools, submit to excesses of law enforcement and on and on and on just because they 'have the wrong skin color' is just business as usual.
