Do you think Obama will go golfing this weekend?
jclalor replied to jgoose71's topic in Speakers Corner
Your flat wrong. Dubya spent more time on vacation by far, not even close to Obama. In all honesty, I believe a President is really never on "vacation" But go ahead tell and your self those lies, I guess it makes you feel better about yourself. When you can't even get extremely easily verifiable facts straight, how you to expect be taken seriously on the rest? You can start with Fact Check, a non-partisan source. http://www.factcheck.org/2010/01/president-obamas-vacation-days/ Non-partisan source - sure, it is. Do they account for Obama's golf time as being out of office, and all the campaigning trips? If I am wrong, please provide your source. But if you think Bush spent more time at the WH in his first two years than Obama, you sadly mistaken. -
Aside from the fact that the Gospels don't read like myth in terms of how they are written (for example, any Jewish writer that wanted to invent a story and give it credibility, would never, ever, ever have women find Jesus first), you are contending that people knowingly made up a lie, for absolutely no gain, under penalty of torture and death. People just don't do that -- and they certainly don't do it with the consistency and numbers required to start and spread Christianity in the 1st century. I'm not saying people won't die for something not true, but in their minds, they believe it to be true. There's a difference. Your scenario would have people face the lions, the cross, the torches, beheadings, etc. all the while knowing, "I made this up," when all they would have to say is, "Maybe I'm wrong" to escape AND they have nothing to gain by lies. As we've so noted, early Christians had no power, no riches, didn't demand either from their followers (Paul actually writes that no one should ever say they are following him, or anyone else, etc.) You do realize that most experts on the NT think the Gospels were written by Greek speaking non Jews. Not too many Jews speaking Greek, let alone writing it. No early manuscripts written in Aramaic have ever been found And not nearly as many Christian were killed for their belief in the first century as you would like to think.

Dubya spent almost 500 days just at Crawford alone, that's a lot of Golf. But I will always prefer to remember Bush like this: http://thedailybackground.com/2007/04/18/the-top-15-most-embarrassing-photos-of-george-w-bush/ -

, Your statement is misleading at best, a "Few years old" Paul, who never met Jesus, first letter was at around 20 after the of death Jesus. Mark, the first gospel, was written 20 years after Paul and Matthew and Luke 15-20 after Mark and John almost 65 years after the death of Jesus. Still know one knows who wrote the gospels.

We were talking about public support for a compromise, you were then going to show me a poll that shows a majority of Americans do not support a compromise. You were also saying Obama would not cut any entitlements, again, you could not provide proof. Now what you are trying to show me?
-
If it's too much for you to Google " Obama entitlement cuts" and then choose from all the sources, I give up. it's a bit like telling you the earth is round, and then you demand a link from me to prove it. You are not helping your cause.

What group of assholes could ever come up with such a thing? http://teapartyteencamps.com/ -
Once again you cannot produce any evidence that will show American public support for the Republicans on this issue. Oh ya I can Google is your friend Look up the CNN poll which was only reported on their web site for an instance Good stuff Numbers in the 60's say you are wrong Dude, I have shown you countless polls over and over again that show the overwhelming of both the right and the left want to see a compromise. They both agree with tax hikes on the rich and spending cuts. It's astounding how some can lie to themselves. the poll you quoted was on approval ratings, not shit about the debt limit. I think people are also looking for you in another thread that you were 100% wrong in.

I would explain it by saying that those countries aren't completely socialist. I would say those countries are way more socialist than we would ever dream of becoming. Like I said, most countries are some where in the middle, Europe being more, us being less.

My point is that there is pure communism and pure capitalism. Communism has been tried and has failed miserably, the closest to pure capitalism is anarchy, and that's not gonna get anybody anywhere. Somewhere in the middle of these two have been the choice of the majority of Governments that have ever existed. If you want to argue that the Government needs a smaller role in how it Governs, that's a valid argument. When you argue for pure capitalism, that's an illusion because it will never happen. ___________________________________________ Like I have said, there is a valid argument to be made for lower taxes, less Government regulation and so forth. how do you explain some (not all) socialist counties that have a very high standard of living? There will always be Government involved in private enterprise and public welfare, no escaping it. Do you really wish to live in a society where car crash victims are left on the side of the road? Where Children live in abject poverty? Not having health care is a death sentence? Can you name one country, that is half way civilized, that does not provide some type of retirement?

Why do you tell them that? Is it how you really feel? Of course that's not how I feel. I would would rather see a child die with some hope that there is something better when they die than telling them there is nothing. Having to listen to an eight year old who is a recent quadriplegic, say that when God lets him walk again, that he will never complain about doing chores ever again or that he can't wait to just run all day, because he's having a hard time remembering what running was like, this makes me despise the religious groups that come and tell the children to pray and expect miracles. I know that my work has made me really angry with the God thing, but sometimes, one needs to be exposed to real suffering to have a informed decision.

I see your a very principled man, the irony meter is through the roof. You got yours and now it's time for a change.

You take this two-party system way too seriously with your need to identify everyone as either a Republican or a Democrat. A rational person wouldn’t try to assign GOP membership to someone just for disagreeing with President Obama’s ideology or his job-performance. George Bush and the Republicans are assholes? OK—I don’t disagree, but neither does that make me a Democrat nor does that in itself defines Barak Obama in a positive way. Evidently you’d be too threatened to allow anyone to define their own political beliefs, but rather insist that they fit into one of your two neat little red or blue categories. Maybe Republican and Democrat parties alike are corrupt and self-serving, and you just can’t step back far enough to see that. Have some Kool-Aid. Just saying when Bush did Tarp and the medicare reform, not very much of a reaction from anyone. Now you would think that Vladimir Lenin was our President. Still waiting for an example of your capitalistic paradise.

Do you have an example of a pure capitalist country?

I did not read the entire document but, in reference to when the Mashiach will come the last three are close to being made manifest. in a generation that is totally innocent or totally guilty; in a generation that loses hope; in a generation where children are totally disrespectful towards their parents and elders; IMO, jaded, biased, supernatural, metaphysical, NT oriented as it is. Add: I'm reading it now and find that it relates to my beliefs. Sounds like every generation since it was written.

Yea, who would want to live in a country considered by most to have the highest standard of living in the world along with one of the lowest crime rates ? That's probably why you run into so many Norwegian immigrants these days. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/country_profiles/1023276.stm So, tell me ...given the high standard of living and low crime rate, what would motivate him to attack government offices and murder school children in Norway? (He does mention in his "writing" that he's a millionaire. Could that be it?) People are always looking for a reason for why these things happen, he was a fucking nut, nothing more and nothing less. they come along from time to time and the ones that tend to run up the higher counts seem to have easier access to weapons. I can't recall such a high toll ever in a European country. ( outside of being committed by people in nice brown shirts with shiny boots) If he were alone in his ideology I might be inclined to agree with you but he isn't. There were (are) plenty of people who had Timothy and terry's world view, and yet no one else acted out like they did. There are plenty of nuts on all sides of the political spectrum, yet thankfully the homicidal ones are a very rare breed. (Obviuosly excluding the middle east)

It's probably time they infiltrate all the churches, tap all the phone lines, rendition for the ones who refuse to provide names of co-conspirators and dust off the old waterboards.
