  1. I was trying to do all my home work and and get up to speed on all the new changes in gear and the fact that my older G4 won't support AVCHD, I was in fact looking at VMS 9 PT pro pack and reading about it and started thinking it was the way to go if I got a new CX 12 or CX 100, but that means a new computer now too. I have a lot of other pressing business to attend to and this is something I'm working to understand in my spare time, so in other words I'm far from up to speed in this newer stuff. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo
  2. That is indeed the question and I have not had time to go look at the FAR's for tandems to make sure it was legal, so I asked here for a quick answer to see if or how many people are doing it. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo
  3. I must be looking at the wrong thing then, because the box had a number 9 on it. must be an upgrade to 8 or something, I have to go look it up again. I also use two media one cd of still and a dvd. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo
  4. Anybody using them in strong tandem rigs? you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo
  5. They already spent 500K. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo
  6. Everything you wrote is spot on and how most places (95%) I have worked operate. While some places do have their local flavor added to the mix, it's mostly simple stuff such as landing patterns or exit orders or not teaching toe taps or something. But as we see from the replies here some Instructors/places really do it or somethings way different then the industry standard pratice. Seems to me, as I thought I would find when I posted this, most people around the country & parts of Canada are all on the same page when teaching AFF jumps. At least that has been my experiance in working the small dz's to very large dz's in the last 5 years or so. If I'm not mistaken the USPA CD's are all teaching (for the most part) the same info and curriculum so that we have an industry standard for all rated AFF I's to operate by, there for if I walk on to Skydive the Farm it's the same over all as what I find when I walk on to Skydive City or Pecos parachute school, as in my case I found that to be 100% true at those first two dropzones, but Truman has had his own program for years. (no surprise there) But not so at some smaller dz's that may not have the instructional staff to do a AFF program or you have rating holders who are still stuck in the 80's due to a lack of continuing education or not having access to the current curriculum and are doing things from back in the day and are not up to speed on todays industry standards, not that it makes it totally unsafe, just assbackawards is all IMHO. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo
  7. I see, that is how I had been doing it, for some reason I thought I had read on here folks were dumping to one media. Still trying to get a grip on all this new AVCHD and the like and this is why I asked, I think your using this format and vagas? you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo
  8. Well what if he was using say sony vagas pro 9 on a PC machine or MAC running bootcamp and XP or vista, then in the name of saving time could you put both the video and stills on the same DVD? I seem to recall some of you guy are doing it. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo
  9. If I understand you correct, the video climbs out rear float behind the main side JM who is blocking up good part of the door by sitting between the legs of the student, next to the pilot. Not saying it's wrong, to each their own, myself, I wouldn't want to be the video or the main side on those loads. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo
  10. What gary wrote about seating in a 182 is S.O.P. and should be the industry standard, video or no video, for a number of reasons. Thanks for the reply. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo
  11. Depends on where their sitting in the plane, now wouldn't it and just how fast you can pick up the grip from where your sitting in the AC. It would seem we're on the same page, other then the above open door policy. For my reasons for asking such questions, if the seating is "standard" as you posted the reserve side would always have "control over the student" from the time the the door opens. Also having the student in the "standard" seating config, allows the instructor talk to/work with and read the student on the ride up. I would still like to hear from one of the current CD's or DSE as to the current course standards for earning a rating to the above questions, some instructors might need to learn and understand this info. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo
  12. At your dz: 1.what is the seating config for LV 1 w/video in a 182? 2.How do you teach COA's & short circles? 3. what is the hard deck for Lv1? & Pull priorities? 4. What is the decision altitude? 5. Would ever have a LV 1, 2 or 3 student next to an open door with out a grip or restraint? I know what the SIMS says and I know what the course I attended trained, so save me the read your SIMS BS, I want to hear from others in the "real world" as to what is the industry standard in 2009. Some one like DSE who just attended Jay Stokes course, speak up. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

  14. I said f-111 style fabric, for point of ref, your right I should have said ripstop. As for my PAP, I'm not able to get to it for days and I'm not unpacking it to find out until it get's jumped who made it, what I posted is from memory. I can see the logo in my mind on the data panel, it is really in good shape and you can read it. I remember it being made in the USA because the last time I jumped it Jay Stokes was on the plane and asking me about it, but I can't recall if it says SSE or Steinthal, I'm thinking steinthal, because of the "wet look" fabric. I was thinking pioneer made it, getting old is a bitch. While to some it made a "joke or Jewish pap as you say, and thought of as crap, I can say with out a doubt the one I own flies stright and true and is a great canopy. I own 2 jumbo PC's, 2 RWB Mk1's from 64, one blue and blk Mk1, one red yellow blk MK1, a PAP and a t-10 and parts for two more rigs awaiting building. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo
  15. If I'm not mistaken the 1964 MK1's in RWB with the f-111 style apex are/ were us team PC's, I own two of the four in the Richmond Indiana collection, and this info was from trusted old farts who would know that kind of shit, Jerry B. (not bird) being one of those. I've heard it fom more then one person, the key is the white f-111 apex, only the team canopies had that, is what I was told. New tafata will feel kind of plastic like. I have a mint american made (by pioneer) PAP and that fabric is really plastic feeling, it's not tafata though like a PC. Nice looking canopy. I've seen a number of them with the paracomander on the stabs. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo
  16. Well now you know, I would have to say the photos make it look bigger then in real life. Saw a red Strato on ebay two days ago search "parachute" and get video...... you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo
  17. I got no PM. If you have a MK1 in a POD? see if you can get the container closed with the POD packed main in it, if you can close it your good to go. I bet you can S fold a PC into that D-bag, just a internet guess, I might say other wise if I was holding/inspecting the bag in question, only way to know for sure is start packing. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo
  18. You need to ask WGore or another old bardstown jumper for a manual, bet he or one of his buddys would know where to get one. Looking at the D-bag yes stratostar built is a good guess, however I own some POD's & a couple D-bagged MK-1's that look no bigger then yours, you might be surprised and fit a short line MK1 or RW PC in it. P.S. Good job stumping everyone, I don't have my pointers in a place I can get to it and even if I had it handy I'm not sure I would have got it........Very nice looking rig you have, what is the story on it? you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo
  19. I own a rod rebel, my first rig I owned, it was made in 74 -75 and has the spring and hooks POB's, not the kind on this rig, but it could be one??? But I know a number of guys who changed over to that style of POB's, so that says very little about the MFG of the rig. And yes I did stop the consider that someone rerouted the ripcord housing and made it in-board pull. One way to find out is see if there is a housing holder on the out side MLW. It's a nice looking rig anyway. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo
  20. All very good guesses, however, we know it's not a Pioneer 3 pin, nor a style master, or a mini system, none of those rig are in-board pulls on the main ripcord. (you have your ripcord on the wrong side of the MLW pocket) As for something different on the back then a pioneer 3 pin, I don't see it. Style masters the main flap (pins) runs at an angle top right to bottom left. Mini system, see above. So we must conclude it's a knock off of the pioneer 3pin & mini system and it's built with an inboard pull not an outer pull as standard with the above named systems. It could be a Jerry Baumchen built rig ? Then again it could have been built by a whole host of rig builders from "back in the day" Might even be a greene star, but all the GS systems I've seen have standard pull out board. I don't have my pointers handy to research more. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

  23. 1. 1980 jumper hit by C-130 and killed 2. 1993 jumper hit by piper cherokee and lived, AC crashed 4 dead 3. 1993 demo jumper hit by biplane circling him and both killed. 4. 2001 jumper exits KA and hits totter in formation flight. 5. 2005 totter hits Gus Wing, Gus died later.\ That is all of them on record. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo
  24. Only with todays new breed of "extreme" wannabes who toss around five dollar bills because they can't find the time to learn to pack. Packing get's in the way of their social time and fashion show, and they need to get all that good advice from from their skygod heros about how to fly their new booties with 27 jumps or how to freefly with 20 jumps...... A lot of them are in such a rush these days to cram in all the cool stuff, can't break a sweat it will mess the fashion show part of the day. Anyway, there are still a few of us here in America who not only could pack before our first jump, we jumped our own pack jobs from jump one, we still can spot the old fashion way..... by looking out the door, we can tell our altitude by looking at the ground and don't need a dial, flashing led and repeted beeping shit in our ears and lived for years without a computer to open our parachute, this of course weeded out those who today fired a Cypres only because they had their head up their ass, not because they were incapaticated. If we need to fix a problem flying our body, we jumped more and didn't run across the parking lot to the wind tunnel, we believed more fabric over your head was a good thing, a really good thing if your going in with a mess you can't lose. Yes that generation of real skydivers is slowly heading out to pasture, some stop because of the large amount of retards who are trying to kill them in the sky and on the ground, some pass away for old age and take with them stuff that you could only hope to learn and it's not in a book. Some are still around doing what they have for years before all the fancy pants came along, most are not impressed and put up with all that shit because they know those folks are flash in the pan types and will soon be gone and all that will be left to remind anyone of those people will the be the note on the dz wall that reads "rig for sale". you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo
