SkyFest June 15th -21st Celebrating 10 years!
stratostar replied to upndownshop's topic in Events & Places to Jump
A lot of credit for being able to make that happen needs to go to J. for allowing me to work on his staff between class and loads. And Hans for his support as well. Thats funny, missed it the first time. Almost recovered now myself, most have lost 20 lbs in that heat, need to visit more offten.... -
http://communitypress.cincinnati.com/article/AB/20100622/NEWS01/6230372/Businessman-sentenced-for-not-paying-taxes Gee acording to all the kool aid drinkers he already paid back all the money..... maybe the fed's just thought an additional 679K fine on top of the paid back amount was fair..... nothin but a thang though. also got the love the users comments posted with the story too. Well at least now everyone in that region & sport knows the answer to where he was getting all the money he has been throwing around for the last few years. Kind of reminds me of Skydive America's creative financing, I remember that owner and a few klingons joking about "other peoples money" and high five'n about a year before the Fed's busted him, maybe they'll run into each other at the federal country club. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

Bob, Try reading the thread for one. Second, my reply was to yet another sub two hundered jump wonder who seeks every reason in their mind as to why they are special and the rules don't/shouldn't apply to them when it comes to jumping a camera, and it's not the first time that poster has been here touting the same song and dance. Then later on in the thread we see the OP chime in and claim that because he can pass the coach course (100 jumps min) he has the skills to fly a camera too, also not following the bsr's based on his posted number of jumps and posted statements. 1. it wouldn't be a problem if this was the BMX video fourms where anyone can attach a go pro to their handle bars and go ride. However this is skydiving and a tad more risky then BMX, as you know. 2. It would also be another thing to ask such questions if there was no issues of endangering one self or other people in sky by using it. 3. We have seen it many times in this fourm where people come here and ask questions about flying cameras with less then the industry standards to start with and then get their panties in a wad because they don't like the answers they get, that is when we hear some lame ass reply about how they are better then others and have mad skillz, after all they pass a coach course so that should mean they can fly a camera too. This thread and the responces from more then one poster is nothing new , nor a surprise and we've seen it time & time again, as I'm sure we will again in the near future. The last thing some newly minted coach (or 100 jump wonder) needs to be focused on is a friken camera use, the focus needs to be the student 100% or the skydive. You've been around a long time, you remember when having 50 jump to use a PC (that is paracomander, not pilot chute for you pups, ) was though of as a good idea. Then latter on it was though of as stupid. There is a reason we have rules some people will always see them as stupid, but they are in place for a good reason and like round canopy rules they maybe subject to change in the future as we progress, however we are not there yet in regards to small go pro cameras and 100 jump wonders. The bottom line in this fourm is this, if you post questions and openly admit you don't meet the USPA BSR's or the requirements of the regulating body of your country for jumping cameras and ask questions on how to do it, how to set up your gear, what to buy and how to use it, then you can expect to hear many of the answers as those in this thread and the many other countless threads just like it! Myself on the other hand, I'm done telling noobies why they shouldn't or how to use it, fix it, set it up, kind of like old blast handles, if you want to choose to not listen to good advice, some paid for in blood and death, then have it and go ahead and use it all you want too, but it won't be on my fun skydive or with my students or tandem or AFF jumps. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

Nope, we used to say all that crap to people like you and the OP, but after all the head bashing in to walls most of us just quit providing the need advice that went unheeded. Now days if your stupid enough do it, like a lot of people are because "a go pro is so small and no real danger" then go for it! Strap that shit on, hell strap on more then one. One on your head facing forward and one backwards and one on each wrist too. If your so all and knowing don't come in here and ask us shit about how to do it for one and for two don't ask us how to do it safely when you don't meet the recommendations of your home countries parachuting rules! Other then that, have at it and maybe add some stills too, that is where the real money is anyway..... Stills. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

Don't you live in CA?, More jumps by saving the travel money across the country. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo -
1. yep I took off the bite of bridal set up and had the belly band removed and installed the BOC, that was done more for noobies to jump it, then for myself, however I do like it better this way for a number of reason. It also has one of those round things with a lot of holes inside it. 2, The SST is pre pud and orginal as far as I know, rig belonged William Weber, Billy's dad, and is the way I got it. 3. That sport pro is original 100%, got a few more I can pull out and photo if ya like.... All factory spec. We want to have fun and be safe, not stupid. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

Sorry but I got play the "your full of shit card" here. 1. 1977 wonderhog SN#944 outside of exposed risers, not much different then todays vector 2's in regards to being closed and jump able. 2. Close up of BOC and bridal on 77 HOG, look much different to you how? 3. Close up of pin. 4. 1974 SST (there is a reason they were called Struggle struggle thump) 5.Close up of SST pin 6. Sport Pro with pins & cones, that SOB is not coming open till you open it! 7. Close up of pins & cones None of those rigs are coming open premature any more then any of todays rigs, all the same rules of yesterday still apply today, 1. watch your handles! (getting in AC, moving in AC, getting out of AC) 2. Gear check your shit! (make sure pins are seated, closing loops are not too long etc.) Most people who make those wild ass claims in todays sport have never jumped this stuff and are only repeating shit they hear or read on the net. Are there better designs in the market place today? SURE there are, however that don't mean an older rig from the 60's or 70's is an automatic death rig and unsafe to jump solo or as a group, they are not anymore endangering to others then any other rig in the air as along as you play by the rules stated above. Yea I know there will a number of people chime in now to say I'm wrong and all that shit, it's all good, don't you worry about it unless it's on YOUR back! you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

Am I wrong? What should I do or have done?
stratostar replied to AdamUSN's topic in Safety and Training
Nothing wrong asking those you did for info, however if in doubt @ a new place ask the DZO or S&TA if one is on field. Also at a new place not a bad idea to do a hop n pop or be one of the last out, more so if your going to be open @ 4K, less likely to have other wizzing past you under canopy. Are you sure they wern't wingsuits or camera flyers filming tandems? Might be best to talk to your home instructors about this and not seek advice from the internet and those who don't know you. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo -

Having not seen tubular webbed lines in person, I can tell you, I've had hard toggles on both a stratostar and a few PC's, yes the lines go in the hole and set at the marks then knotted off, set as usual with the end of toggle in the cat's eye below ring, most old school risers have a nothing to hold it or elastic for the other end of the toggle to stow it, extra line you leave free or stow in a number of ways. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

Dirty Laundry aired in z-hills
stratostar replied to AndyMan's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Just change the names of the players and location and you've got skydiving as a whole, as you know, "as the prop turns" skydiving politics has always been here lurking in the shadows and rears it's ugly head now and then in a more public light as we see here. Some where in the middle is the truth, it's all about what side of the fence your standing on as to your perspective. I can only speak of a couple of the curent players as a visitor to z-hills, I found it well run and TK has always been more then helpful even to the point of allowing northern folks to bring "our" students to z-hills to train, the place was open for our use (class rooms, jumpsuits etc) at no additional charge. The kindness shown by all the staff and management was impressive to the students and helped make skydivers. I can also speak of TK in my business dealing with him, I have always found him to be honest, fair and a man of his word, something that in this industry is not always the case with DZO's and mangers. The man made a mistake, and unlike many in our ranks, he owned up to it and will pay the price for his actions, in fairness to him I think he deserves a second chance to right the wrong and move on. The more somethings change in this sport the more somethings always stay the same.[/crazy] you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo -
Well Jerry, sadly that is the way things are these days, not only in the world but skydiving too. If you don't want to be burned then you need to CYA. Yes I understand there are still people you know and can trust to keep their word, however if your dealing with someone you don't know, you must get ref's and chack them out, use a broker or ship to the dz COD only. Sucks don't it! Remember when you could leave all your shit laying around all weekend and no one would mess with it, let alone steal it............... Them days are long gone! Hope you get your money or stuff. P.S. I do know some "fellas" in Socal who for a small price would be happy to pay a visit and adjust some attitude for you. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo
