Your the second person I know of to try and be a grim reaper Racer. The other guy lived too but it never opened, good thing he hit the grass right next to the front bumper of a caddy in a parking lot, so grabbing grass dose work. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

I attached the photo you saw, and yes it is a 27 foot russian. We also have a matching (colors) 23 ft russian. I love the color pattern of the PC in your Av. never seen one like that before. I would be interested in a "slag" bag if your making extras or even better a pattern, that looks a lot like a sleeve type thing I saw Ted Strong messing around with once for squares. Kind of a ugly POD. (your is a little longer then a regular POD) For the reocrd anyone in North America with old gear who would like to see it have a good home in a "flying circus museum" (that would be a museum where the stuff is fixed up and jumped regular and a place where those who would like to make a jump with retro rigs can do just that) you can PM me or Beatnik. We are saving the history of days gone by and between the two of us we have 45 to 50 complete rigs ready to jump and we have other parts in need of other parts to complete the rigs, so we are always interested in talking to those who have old gear and would like to part with it. Landed off??....Let's hear about it!
stratostar replied to kturnau's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I did a H&P to look for a cutaway in the tall corn and it was close to a few farm houses with a state road in front of the houses. so the only places to set down were in the corn fields around or next to the road. The power lines traveled along the road up to the closest house then crossed over to the side I was on, so not the best place to try to set down along the road. I spent all of my canopy time searching the corn and not worrying about where to land, after all lot of wide open corn to land in, not like I haven't done that before. Anyway so there I am getting lower and it is now time to find a good place to set down, as I look around I see all the best places (green short grass) is as stated above, I see in the small horse pin of the closest house the farmer was in the pin and was burning a small pile of brush, so I had a great wind ref to use, and I decided that was a great place to land to avoid the wires and still land close to the road and not tall corn. So I set up an approch and start deep brake sinking it in to the horse pin and at about 150ft I yelled out real load to the ground "hey you mind if I drop in" it was funny as hell watching this farmer look all around left & right, over the shoulder and then after all this looking around he looks up. Once he saw me I yelled again now about 75 ft., he shouts back yea go ahead, it's about this time I can make out the thin small electric fence running catty corner across the horse pin, I made a slight ajustment to miss it and did a controled crash old school accuracy style and was then covered by the canopy. The farmer got a real kick out of the drop in and gave me a ride back to the dz and as he dropped me off he said "drop in anytime" you know where I live. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo -

yep it's on video, but the asshat who filmed it wouldn't give me a copy and has left the sport a few years ago, I have tried to get it a few times but no luck, so these stills will have to do. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo -

With top mounting I have always followed the thinking that keeping the weight centered over your spine is better in the long run for your health and helps keep the CG in line over the spine. Now you might also get lucky and find it is balanced well and won;t fall over when not on you head, this is good. But it may fall over, I'll take a centered CG over a balanced helmet any day. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

Nope I think you said it quite well and addressed the points i was trying to make way better then I did. That is well said, on the other side, no reason to just chop from a stuck toggle, it is a workable problem in more then one way, one of those ways is of course a cutaway. Anyway were on the same page here great post. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo -
Well that would depend on a few things now wouldn't it, like how far back are you going to fly, what result are you going for. ECT. I have seen others use the kit lens and poster on here use it as well, it will work yes, but may not give the result you want. You may want to try to search the topic in this fourm there have been many a posting about this kit lens and wide angle lens to use in FF. IMO you will want to look at a number of lens to use like a canon or sigma 15mm fixed, 10-20mm focus, a 20mm fixed, or maybe even a 14 or 15mm fisheye. As said depends on what you want to do and the results you want. I fly a 20mm fixed lens on stills and a .6 wide on video and they match up very nice. In the near future I will changing my set around and going with a 15mm fixed sigma on the stills. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

Every year, more and more Canadian DZs require AADs for everyone. For example, Pitt Meadows, Beiseker, Dunnville and all the big DZs in Quebec require everyone to wear AADs. *** Ah, but dose it have to be turned on? So we were planning this bachelor party at the dz for a oldtimer and we were trying to talk the DZO's boyfriend "the gaybar stripper" aka "Captin Cupcake" into doing a show for the groom because he had really wanted the "school girl" show. When this student jumper walked up amid this discussion and was hearing this "Captin Cupcake" decline our idea and money for the show. Next thing we hear is "Hey I'm your boy, I even have my own pair of velcro pants and a thong and I'll do it for FREE!" "Just call me Krazy kyle the bunny hop bandit" Well we all thought he was full of shit and just trying to fit in anyway he could, you know how FNG's are. Well the next week came and it was showtime, well I guess he was our boy after all......what a showman! Well I had to pay a small fortune to get these from his (kyle's) boytoy, abercrombie..... Now that is funny, I don't care who you R. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo -

Where is it I said do shit you see in a video (not FJC vids), on youtude or other online crap? um NO, I don't teach advanced survivial skills to FJS's or unlicensed students, my comment was pointed to you and advanced jumper who said they would just chop a minor pain in the ass issue. Let me explain it to you again. How about using you head and think thru an minor problem instead of over reacting and just cutting away, should you have the alti to do so. One quick and simple fix is to restow the unjammed toggle and fly your canopy using rears and doing a good PLF, you could even skip the flair and do a good PLF to not risk a stall by flairing the canopy with both brakes stowed. Hell for that matter you could even fly holding the unstowed one, however it only takes a second to restow, been there, done that, more then once. A broken line, or broken stearing line or stuck toggle is NOT a major mal requiring you to just say fuck it and chop as long as the canopy is flying, unless you are down and dirty! you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo -
We have been exporting the file back to the camera and into the DVD to rec. so we don't have to render it. I have seen other imac users burn in idvd, but i didn't time it, however it did seem fast. After spending time a few years ago working on a mac and getting fast with it, I got my own and sold my videonics system, best move I've made in regards of updating systems. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

Why? In this guys case why not just restow the unstowed brake line and fly the rears and do a good PLF on landing, cuz with both brakes set you won't hit that hard anyway. Your reserve "might" not work, then what? grab grass. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo -
