  2. All, More e-mails from the pilot {Emphasis mine}: ________________________________________ From: Redacted Sent: Saturday, January 23, 2010 7:03 PM To: sluggo@n467us.com Subject: RE: You Are Approved Rubber bands last, what, a week in the elements? And yes, I knew Tom Bohan very well. Great guy. Oh... I have a photo taken in 1986 of my son and I as we were boarding our jump ship for a skydive along with our jumpmaster. Guess who he was? Redacted ________________________________________ From: Sluggo@N467US.com To: redacted Subject: RE: You Are Approved Date: Sat, 23 Jan 2010 19:25:28 -0600 Who... Ted?... Maybe Earl Cossey? Did you ever talk to T. Bohan about his activities on 21 Nov 1971? I have some info that he was "in trail" of Flight 305 after it left SEA but before it passed over PDX. Supposedly he was @ 16,000 MSL and 4 miles behind (I'd have to check to get actual numbers) and having some really bad weather with high winds that were different than the WS/WD used to determine Cooper's LZ. You ever discuss that with Tom? The "Science Team" has some samples of rubber bands from the same formula and are studying the decay times under different conditions. It seems that UV is a rubber killer, but in water (low O2, low UV) or in sand they last longer. The guy bears a striking resemblance to the person in question. Steve Fisher. Great jumpmaster & fun guy, now deceased. I'll see if I can get that copied. You put 15 years on D.B.'s photo and that's who you see. Yes, I vaguely recall Tom telling that story. Vaguely. The years play hell on a guys memory. I don't trust mine that well anymore for recent occurances. Whether my memories of that time are dead-assed accurate could be in question. But, I think they are. One thing I'm sure of is that Ted Mayfield is/was not D.B. Cooper. Happy Days... So…. Any of you PDX area skydivers know Steve Fisher? Do you have any photos? Do you know about his history? 3. All, I got an approval request for the NORJAK Forum today from an interesting individual. When I asked for background info about him, I got this e-mail: From: REDACTED [mailto:redacted@xxxx.com] Sent: Saturday, January 23, 2010 5:10 PM To: sluggo@n467us.com Subject: RE: You Are Approved Hi... I found your site when searching for Ted Mayfield. I see he's being accused of being D.B. Cooper which is absurd. Ted gave me my 1st flying job in PDX in 1964. I was probably responsible for the D.B. Cooper hijacking. I was working at Continental Airlines and flying on my time off at the Pacific Parachute Center. They were excited about a DC-3 coming to town for a "mass" jump of 21 skydivers. Hmmm.... well, how about 110 Skydivers? I showed a group of skydivers how to operate the door on a 727 (our airplane overnighting in PDX) and about 2 weeks I think it was later guess what happened. I spent Thanksgiving day at the FBI. So, you can see why I'm interested. Is this Ralph?? Redacted Redacted, AZ I’ve had several other communications with him since this one. It seems he was a friend of Tom Bohan’s. I awaiting a reply about whether or not Tom ever mentioned his 21 NOV 1971 flight “in trail” of Flight 305. Comments? (Like I have to ask for some

  7. A really good post will bring me "out of hiatus" to respond. That's a EXCELLENT post! Congrats to hangdiver (grandpa again), son, and son's girlfriend* (wife, concubine, life companion, rib, main squeeze, 'ol lady, etc.). I hope Mom and baby are in good health. * God... I'm really out-of-touch with today's culture... Sugar and I have been together 16 years and married 10. Back then, we called it "shacking-up." When I announced to my nuclear-plant co-workers (at age 52 & 55) that we had gotten married, I said; "...and she ain't pregnant or nothing!” I expected a big hearty laugh from all. I got nervous, uncomfortable, blank stares. Those guys have no sense of humor. Web Page Blog NORJAK Forum
  8. All (especially any Moderators out there), You guys remember this post by Jim_Hooper, posted February 4, 2008? I hated Hooper for posting that. I think everyone should be allowed to post what they feel, but I thought this particular post was unkind (I prefer kindness to unkindness). Before I registered on DZ.com, I read the rules and, while it was obviously intended to be a skydiver board, it was open to all who wished to post on “relevant” topics. Unfortunately, discussions about DB Cooper are relevant to skydiving whether justified or not. Therefore, there was no reason I could not post to it. If Hooper is a skydiver isolationist and a whuffo exclusionist, so be it, after all, this IS a skydiver board. But now, today, I think my feelings about Hooper have come back on me. Maybe he was right after all. This thread, one that I suppose has the highest percentage of whuffo posters than any other on DZ.com, has degenerated into a wild-west flame fest. There is no obvious presence of a moderator(s), there is a poster (troll) who, when presented with a serious (and sometimes thoughtful) post, feels the need to post six to ten consecutive posts of rambling nonsense. There is a poster, who although is intellectually sound, and often has thoughtful analysis, allows the troll (and others) to “pull his strings” and gets so frustrated that his replies degenerate into name-calling and flames. Then, there’s the Florida widow, who says the same three or four statements over and over ad infinitum, as if that by saying it enough times those who rejected her “leaps of logic” will somehow see that she is (was) right all along. (Yes Jo, keep doing what you are doing and you’ll keep getting what you are getting.) Then there is a group I call the “visiting populous” who drop in occasionally to either stir the pot or attempt to steady the ship. Now I want to be very clear here. I have no association with this forum, fiduciary, social, or familial. I, as a whuffo, am a guest. Not an invited guest, but an allowed guest (yes, there is a big difference in my mind). The administration and management of DZ.com have their own reason for the decisions they make. I’m sure the number of post here (this thread) has a great deal to do with sponsor associations and obligations. They haven’t consulted me (as if!...) and I don’t think it is very likely that they ever will. There is some really interesting research going on in NORJAK at this point in time. There are three (or four) books being written and the “Science Team” (Tom Kaye and company) continue to slog through the evidence at the extremely slow pace that “real science” demands. When I first came here, the thread was “value added” for me. I met some great folks (and personalities). This thread, and the interest it held for many, prompted me to start my web site. But, over time, it has really gone downhill. So, once again, this thread has lost its usefulness to me, and I certainly don’t seem to be adding any value to it. Therefore, once again, I am going to take a hiatus from posting. If anyone has any serious and/or meaningful information, or wish to ask my assistance on any projects, you know how to contact me. I encourage you to do so. I will continue to scan the pages of this thread, when time allows, and I will contact individuals through other resources if the situation demands it. Everyone have a great 2010, I honestly feel some progress will be made this year. Sluggo PS: Oh yeah! Don't feed the troll, it just encourages him! Web Page Blog NORJAK Forum

  11. While you guys were so busy insulting each other, someone slipped a cog and started mixing fire towers. You see, there are two Larch Mountains: 1. Larch Mountain, OR in Multnomah County, OR. Located at N 45 31.9656 and W 122 05.268 WGS84 2. Larch Mountain, WA in Clark County, WA. Located at N 45 43.010 and W 122 17.751 WGS84 They are 17.78 statute miles apart. I guess someone failed to see the gorilla.
  12. All, After I made the post about not seeing the lights on Merwin Dam when flying very close to it, I started thinking about visual cognition and how it affects eye-witnesses (hence this long post). Here is an experience I had that changed the way I think about eyewitnesses: In about 2004 while at a workshop I participated (along with 10 other people *) in an exercise (not an experiment) on visual cognition. [Note: I tried to think of ways to present this so you would get to have the same experience that I did, but it would be impossible to do on this forum.] University of Illinois professor Daniel J. Simons has conducted visual cognition experiments and made videos that can be used in lectures and demonstrations. Here’s the one we did: About six young people, standing in a circle, were filmed for about 25 seconds. They were passing two basketballs to each other while moving is a random pattern. We were asked to watch the video. Since the subjects of the video were “weaving and bobbing” as they passed the balls to each other the scene was visually active and somewhat confusing. Before being shown the video we were told we had a task to perform. We were asked to count the total number of times the balls were passed from person to person. We were instructed to make no comments during or after the viewing. After viewing the video the facilitator asked each person in the group how many times the ball was passed. Most said; “27 – 30.” Then he asked (by show of hands only); “How many saw the gorilla?” 1 of the 11 people raised their hand. [Side Note: This guy was the mega-nerd of the group, he was a PhD in Math and Physics, our statistician, and his “ball count” was about 10 (much lower than everyone else). I’m just throwing that in because it intrigued me, the social outcast, saw something different that all the others.] A discussion followed, that at times became rather heated. Most people (the other 10), including me, said; “No F’’ing way!” We then were allowed to view the video again with no assignment other than to find the gorilla and/or prove Dr. Nerd wrong. Well, when I watched again I saw a gorilla (a person in a gorilla suit) stroll into the middle of the group, belligerently thump his chest (as if to say; “You’re a useless eye-witness,”) and stroll off. The gorilla was visible for 9 of the 25 seconds of the video. Needless to say, I WAS FLOORED! You can view this video (Flash Video) at: Basketball Movie Why don’t you show it to your friends (if you have any

  15. georger said: Right! I forgot about all those lights on Merwin Dam. They would cause sky-glow too. I saw an after-dark photo (on a clear night) taken at ground level and it looked like one-half of a football stadium. ADDENDUM: I just check an old flight plan, I used to fly just south of Lake Merwin on a direct route from Goldendale to Longview-Kelso. I do not remember those lights. It may be because I was using radio-navigation and just not paying attention since the dam dosen't affect the flight, and I wasn't using it for navigation, but I never recall seeing them. From the photo I saw they would be very noticeable. It's been a long time. Web Page Blog NORJAK Forum
  16. It’s been 15 years since I flew that area at night. I don’t remember any clearance lights except on man-made structures. I have a guy that is trying to snag me a 1971 Seattle Sectional. If (when) he gets it to me, we can take a look. I think (just my personal opinion) he would mostly see sky-glow (at 10,000 MSL) from Longview-Kelso and Portland-Vancouver (one unit) and as he got south maybe a brief glimpse of Goldendale, Hood River and the Dalles. But mostly sky-glow not lights on the ground (except through small cloud breaks. I was VFR only and never flew that area under those conditions. Web Page Blog NORJAK Forum

  21. I thought I’d post this since he was a skydiver-base jumper. Maybe some of the folks out of Perris knew him, but hadn’t heard. NEW YORK—Eric Gates, former television personality for Discovery’s "Mythbusters" died in an untimely accident while surveying a business site affiliated with one of his owned businesses last week. Gates was the owner of Gateco Electric in Thousand Oaks, California and was checking on a client’s home the day of his fatal mishap. His death resulted from his falling through a skylight while walking on a customer’s roof. The Ventura County Star reported that his death was caused by severe trauma to his chest. He was 47. “He survived cancer, he jumps with parachutes, he base jumps. He’s an active guy who was used to taking precautions. This was a freak accident that shouldn’t have happened,” said Steve DeGennaro, Xirrus Inc.’s co-founder and CFO, in an interview with The Ventura County Star. It was reported that Gates fell close to 30 feet. The coworker with him on the roof was facing away from Gates and did not see what caused him to go through the skylight. "Mythbusters" is currently broadcast to every corner of the world through syndication but it was originally made for the Discovery channel. It is a scientific show and takes popular myths or misconceptions and finds their ultimate truths using scientific experiments thus solving the popular myths. The show stars Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman with the majority of filming based in San Francisco. Web Page Blog NORJAK Forum
  22. snowmman said: snowmman, Once again, I am compelled to call “bullshit” on you. You are completely out of touch with reality. I live in Ashford, AL. It is 8 miles from Florida and 12 miles from Georgia (you can’t get much deeper in the “Deep South”). The term “Creationist” was replaced. It was causing the courts to come down on hard working, God-fearing, common folks (as opposed to all those “pointy-headed intellectuals) with some kind of legal mumbo-jumbo about separation of church and state or some such. The correct term now is “Intelligent Design (ID).” It works because it is a science instead of a religion. I know it’s a science because my neighbor (a Pentecostal Preacher) told me so. He explained how fossils were put there by Satan to confuse non-believers about the “true” age of the earth (6,000 years). He said it had been proven by scientist. Why wouldn’t I believe him, after all, he’s a preacher?

Do you mean “a file with the name Norjax” or “a computer filename”????? Yes, there is something behind the Burroughs resignation. Read Post #14739 of 14905 and read between the lines. You would be the last person to be told what’s going on at the Seattle FBI. C-O-V-E-R-U-P ??????? WTF are you trying to say???? Just come out with it! Who did you tell? What did you tell them?
