  1. Going out to Spaceland to watch the Texas 160-way! Yes, I said to watch
  2. Evidently a suit was filed against Continental yesterday.
  3. I'm sure you'll receive an "age extension" due to being a military retiree. But again, that's in Texas. Check with the agency you'll try and be employed with.........good luck.
  4. "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly".......!
  5. Only if it's heads up.
  6. Sounds like she was trying to do something nice for you.....albeit in her own way but nothingless, being nice. It's just another one of lifes lessons.
  7. Yes, I have. She saved them all. Then summarily dumped me. Haven't written one since but I still have the ability if ever called upon again........
  8. Awesome! Good luck and have fun. I miss it everyday. edit to add: As long as your "high risk activity" of choice is sanctioned, then it's ok. I would imagine that while you are going thru any training, be it basic or tech school etc...., they prolly wouldn't agree to it. But my ole career field, 4M0X1 (Aerospace Physiology Specialist), ie., altitude chamber instructor.....loved us to do it. Sent me to all the survival schools too!
  9. I was in the Air Force, retired a few years ago. And actually, we were "encouraged" to do it. As long as you received the mandated safety brief and it was signed off by your commander, it was blessed........But, sometimes....better to ask for forgiveness than permission.
  10. (April 14) -- An asteroid the size of a 25-story building will come within 18,000 miles of Earth on April 13, 2029 -- closer than the communication satellites that orbit the planet, Discovery.com reported. The asteroid, called Apophis, has only a 1 on in 45,000 chance of colliding with Earth. But it will then be back for another shot seven years after that. It's hard for astronomers to determine what kind of threat Apophis poses in 2036 because its orbit will be bent by gravity during its 2029 flyby, Discovery reported. During the 2029 visit, the asteroid is expected to be visible to the naked eye at night. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hope I live long enough to see it! Definitely will be a close one.
  11. KHDO: Hondo, TX about 40 miles west of San Antonio, TX. The Flightline Cafe (originally on the field) is now in town. However, The Flight Line Cafe will come get you and take you a short 5 min to town for a great meal and bring you back... If you are in the area this is a great field to stop at. New Fuel pumps, new building, and nice folks!! Edit to add: Saturdays open (0730 to 1400) Sundays open (0730 - 1500)
  12. QuoteNobody has mentioned Flight Control yet?....Quote Why why why did I download that app! It's consumed me for the best part of 2 days.....argh! Up to 85 though....
  13. Gawain was giving you advice......good advice at that. I'd say stay civilian. Sounds like the military isn't your cup of tea.
  14. HOLY CRAP! You used 625000 watts? Just how big IS you hydro lab in the basement? Shhhhhhhh!!!!!!! It's almost harvest time
  15. That does seem on the high side. What's per/Kw charge? Here in TX, I'm paying .12 cents per Kw, and my bill last month for a 2000 sq/ft home = $75.00.
  16. Awesome! No post landing deltas........Very nice STS-119!!
  17. Shuttle landing in about 30 minutes...... scheduled for 2:14 pm (CST)
  18. I'll have to miss this year. For me, I love love to fly into the show (cancel IFR and go VFR for the entry) and camp next to the plane. I enjoy the camraderie in the North 40 and the day to day action of watching the show, and later enjoying frosty beverages at the campsite more than anything. Simple pleasures. Oh, and sitting on the side of 09/27 and watching the takeoff's and landings. There's some entertainment for ya!
  19. Good one on your dad! And pointing and telling a specific person to call 911/EMS is exactly the right thing to do. And I would like to add in, if the person you tasked to call 911 needs to go somewhere to make that call, tell them to make the call and return to you. That way you know (as a rescuer) that emergency services were activated. There are stories about people that just walk off and leave the rescuer in limbo! .......
  20. Sky or SCUBA....and how do ya reconfigure said diver? A ha!, Scuba. It's a select team that reconfigures the big pool for the next days test. ie, Hubble Telescope requires the telly in the payload bay of the Shuttle, so we place or "reconfigure" the test article from point A to B. Easier said than done!
  21. Setting up support for our Reconfiguration Divers. And outta here in 10 minutes!!!
  22. ? Can a medic (EMT and/or Paramedic) be held liable if they "don't" render aid? That was something I remembered from EMT trng years ago. Recently I renewed, and can't recall what the legal thing is....
  23. Ambien rocks for me! While I don't like taking meds, insomnia was killin me, so therefore.... On occasion I do hallucinate and have some wicked dreams.
  24. If you wanted to know..... launch tentatively pushed back till Thursday evening.... (small hydrogen fuel leak)
