Seriously, above 15K everyone should be on O2. That reg was written for passive pax in the back of a plane versus jumpers.
-
My work encourages it......so it's no big deal.

And I thought they were moving a squadron of F-22's somewhere....

Aw SM, I liked the boots! And hmmm.... I could pull Shakira's hair back for her! bwaaa!

Heard that shit hurts. Although I don't see why they should have to be tased just to carry. They carry a gun too, they need to be shot also?

Drive? Oh hell no! But enjoy your trip

Personally I think this is something serious and no better a time than now to learn from it, review it with the staff and DZO, and make it know how they should handle a similar situation should they find themselves in one again. I agree with another poster, definitely have clear/concise instructions prior to boarding that aircraft. I know after my incident I was more thorough on my preflight brief to the jumpers. Almost anal about it, but it worked for me. I jumped a couple years ago at a huge DZ in Texas. I never heard any type of brief before we loaded. Are their any current jump pilots on here that want to offer their views on the subject?

A while back, I gave the bailout order from a C182 after my engine lost power in the climb. An AFFI took his Level 4 student out the door plus 2 fun jumpers left (2 on reserves, 2 on their mains!).....by the time they left, if was at 1,000 feet AGL. (There call, not mine at that altitude) but I sure as hell appreciated dumping 800 lbs when I needed it the most. I made it back (under partial power) to the runway. Thanks Andy Smith!
-
As a pilot, I want to safely get rid of as much weight as I can during an engine-out emergency. 2 AFFI's out the door probably reduced the weight by another 400 lbs. Maybe that's what the pilot was running thru his head when he gave the order. It's what I would've thunk.

QuoteThanks to everyone for tips and encouragement

I use that term also. I didn't mean to exclude it from the list, just an oops. I've been managing and operating hyperbaric and hypobaric chambers for 27 years.
-
That could have been bad, at least according to the fundamentals. Can't say I've ever come close to that. I have always stuck with the easy 24 hour rule. That way I feel sure I'm good to go no matter how many dives I've made or how deep I've gone. Might want to see a doc anyway. If I'm not mistaken, symptoms of the bends can appear well after the fact. Not sure if there's anything they can do besides have you take a trip to the chamber, though. Chucks dead on when talking about developing DCS symptoms way after the fact. Matter of fact it's called Delayed Decompression Sickness for a reason. Luckily this guy missed getting a bends hit or worse developing a central nervous system (CNS) disorder.... Also for all, it's called either a compression chamber, a dive chamber or the technical term HYPERbaric chamber.

Runway strobes for night operations?
Beerlight replied to Telek's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
For years and years I landed a C182 over 2 parked cars (about 30 yards apart) with lights on facing down the runway. While not a perfect setup, it was inexpensive as a REIL. -
It's awesome you are pursuing something you enjoy! Go get em'!

U.S. Air Force, Army and NASA rules state: Following blood donation (200 cc or more), aircrew members will be restricted from flying duty for a period of 72 hours. Following plasma donation, aircrew members will be restricted from flying duty for a period of 24 hours. Balls in your court now. But those are mil/DoD regulations. No real rules (merely guidance) by the FAA on blood donations and flying.

Yea, Beerlight!

And it's appreciated Peter!

I think I recognized Bob Stahl in one of the shots....?

Well I've seen drinking beer under canopy (not me I was just the jump pilot who let em out on a long cross country), cell ph calls under canopy, taking pics with handheld cameras........so....guess it would be ok. Again though, you shouldn't ever really "need" a gps.....like Skymama said.
