  1. Yea. Here's your sign. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
  2. OK, totally dumb question here but... Do your grocery stores take it off the shelves on Sundays? I've lived in "the bible belts" and liquor stores were/are not open on Sundays but, you can still buy beer and/or wine at the grocery store. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
  3. Cool! That could happen. Seriously, I know a guy who that just recently happened to. One night stand (or so he says). I guess his swimmers were just like total Phelps that night. Good for you for wanting to be there at some point, however convenient. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
  4. I startle easily, and yet I LOVE putting myself right in the thick of all things that will jump out and try to frighten me. I love mysteries. I love that people can dress up weird, look at me weird and keep a straight face (I'd never be able to do that). I love that this time of year the rat lady comes out laying in her coffin with rats crawling all over her, and people think that's scary. The roach lady--I admit, THAT'S scary...for me anyways. I love the music ("Thriller" is still the best song/music video EVER!) I love dressing up (and never as a sexy-nurse. I was a witch ever year ages three to eleven and always something weird after that. ) I love haunted houses. I love ghost stories. I said "Bloody Mary" three times in the mirror by myself when I was really little and sadly, nothing happened. But, it was fun trying!
  5. I have a pretty good palate, but if it's not meaty, greasy, buttery, rich and/or creamy a certain very-much-loved member of my family will turn his nose up to it. I need some recipes for Christmas Day that would make even he have to admit it's super tasty. I'm not considered vegan as I eat eggs (free range, organic), butter and fish. But, this person will never settle for a fish Christmas (he doesn't enjoy fish unless it's white, battered & fried ). Sooo...I'm looking mostly for side dish ideas. I have some great ones that Bill and I love, but they do not imitate anything this person eats ever. We just have different palates. I never did like things that were too rich, greasy or creamy so...water & oil. Does anyone have a tried & true vegetarian or vegan dish recipe that would knock the socks off this person I've described? I'd love to hear one.
  6. In Florida we have Prop Two "Marriage Protection Act". I find the phrase ironic. I voted "No" for whomever cares (I vote absentee). I like California's Prop Two, though.
  7. I've posted here in recent months (years? haven't done the math) more often than Bonfire. It's not so much "boring" as predictable in either forum. Synonymous. Still, I like to play once in a while.
  8. I'll give you that. I can't stand it when the Gator game is in the middle of the day. I BEG Bill to DVR it... I mean--I went to UF! I'd still rather do something that actually makes a difference in the middle of my day. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
  9. I love this thread. SO telling. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
  10. Do nonyall have DVR or TEVO? Skip gymnastics? Skip a "profitable gig"? Seriously? Ya'll are whack. Stay in shape, make your money and watch it when you get home. Do it for the children. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
  11. Agree with the latter, not the former. If she "merely gets her ass kicked", we'll say she lost. And then everyone will vote for McCain/Palin. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
  12. I've never heard of writing two checks. FWIW, I write one check and write on both the portion I send with the check and in the memo section of the check itself "X amount to be applied toward principle" and it's always applied correctly. My mortgage coupon actually already comes with the various sections where you can write in the amount you want applied to the appropriate category (extra monthly payment, additional interest or extra principle). Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
  13. If you pay weekly bills, then I'd say weekly. Personally, I prefer to do the bills (energy, mortgage) monthly and if I'm paying any down I do so at that time. Either way, better to do so as you go in this scenario, imo.
  14. Video. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
  15. I admit I'm not into vampires, but speaking of reading: I was impressed by Stephenie Meyer's ability to get tweens to read a big, fat book. Bill and I were lunching and saw this barely pubescent girl reading a big, fat book. She was behind me and Bill was the one who noticed so I asked if he could read what it was. Eventually he did and the book was titled "Breaking Dawn". Never heard of it. Oddly enough, later that day I read an article about the author and her latest. I don't know why, but I was excited the girl with the big, fat book was reading something for pleasure vs. assigned material.
  16. I have to say, I was raised on Star Trek and have a special place in my heart for it. I've still never heard of the others mentioned, though. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
  17. Well, I wish I could post many of my favorites, but they're all hand-written with only ingredients--no amounts of such. We just know how much. Soo... Here's one of my favorite fish recipes from Coastal Living: 1 tablespoon butter (or substitute) 1 tablespoon olive oil 2 large yellow bell peppers, chopped 2 shallots, minced 2 teaspoons Caribbean jerk, Cajun or Mexican seasoning blend (look for those without sugar or crap) 1 cup broth (it calls for chicken or fish broth, but we use organic vegetarian vegetable broth and it works beautifully) Salt Freshly ground black pepper 2 (6-ounce) halibut fillets (we've never made it with halibut. Any white fish will be great!) One can (or fresh equivalent) black beans Avocado Lime Heat butter and oil in a large cast iron or ovenproof skillet over medium-high heat. Add bell peppers, shallots and seasoning blend. Saute' 5 minutes or until shallots are translucent. Stir in broth and simmer 10 minutes or until vegetables are tender. Transfer to a blender and puree until smooth. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Sprinkle fillets with salt and pepper. Sear fish in hot olive oil 4 to 5 minutes per side or until done. Serve immediately with pepper sauce. Makes two servings. (I have to note: We've since used a bit less broth, butter & olive oil to make the pepper sauce a bit thicker. We like it better this way, but it is still fantastic as is.
  18. I feel the exact same way, but as my father always told me, "You're being too idealistic, child." Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
  19. I know you do, hunny. It's just ironically for recipes it was the last thing I thought of. I went to our local book shop and scoured the cooking section and just couldn't commit to buying an entire book that had maybe a few recipes I might like. My magazines (mostly home magazines, coastal, decor) always provided at least one or two new recipes a month for me... Frankly as much as I Google, it was the last place I went to find what I was looking for in the recipe department. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
  20. Geez, all these shows I've never heard of. I don't know; maybe I should stop watching. All I can think of right now is, I'm excited for the new season of House. I liked Fresh Prince of Bel-Air a whole lot when I was little--made my small-town country relatives SO frustrated with me when I visited. I can still sing the entire theme song. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
  21. A "healthy" recipe, imo, is all about knowning ingredients. I find a lot of recipes labeled "healthy" are not-so-much. If you know your ingredients, you can make any of your favorite recipes healthy.
  22. "Bitch of the Popes of Hell." I like it. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
  23. I'd say that's a compliment in itself.
