Knowledge-based tests/barriors are no less discriminatory, though, w/r/t one's right to vote. Anything less than universal suffrage with limited disfranchisement (i.e. age, citizenship, registration) is immoral because it allows only a few the opportunity to make decisions for many with the few being the same people who decided who the few should be in the first place. Is it morally wrong for someone to vote who has little to zero knowledge about what they're voting for? I think so. But, it's morally right to allow that possibility (and probability) because to focus on preventing those instances is to forget the bigger, more virtous picture. I don't think she is. I understood her question to be why would excluding some who do not meet certain (educational-like) requirements be morally wrong? Of course, she deviated from that toward the end of her OP. Me thinks she believes it IS morally wrong and there will be a follow-up question once there are several deemed-acceptable-enough responses. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.

Despite loving the idea of a comprehensive-filtering process for who gets to vote, I would not support requirements for such. It's a slippery slope. What about all the people having children (also a very important decision to think through that affects all of us) who never took "the time to find out at least a little" about what it will require to raise them? I would argue it is more immoral to deprive those who "don't take the time to find out at least a little about the election" of their right to vote. Having said that, I don't think anyone should be out in the streets, grabbing people by the hand and walking them through the voter-registration process. Sabre knows his name and comes every time I call him. First he lets out a very sweet meow, then he comes trotting to find me. He's my precious angel. I seriously love that cat.

There is only one true & original Sabre and he's mine.

Gawd, I LOVE when an answer (proposed or not) to an issue is simply a matter of semantics. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.

It's like anything else--a matter of interpretation. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.

Hey! I have a degree in mass comm and I assure you the basketweaving we did was really hard and like underwater and stuff! Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.

Very true. If it weren't for my strong disagreement with some of his proposed plans, I'd have loved to have voted for him. Regardless, I'm excited we've reached a point in our history that a black man can be elected president, and I hope he serves us well. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.

While I agree, I find it an interesting juxtaposition to Biden's qualifications vs. Obama's. Still wouldn't call her an idiot, though. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.

Ouch! I was never a big fan of Palin as McCain's running mate, nor do I agree with her position on many issues. She was painful for me to watch during interviews. Still, I think she's far from "an idiot". Her lack of knowledge about a variety of important (and helpful) information--imo--is not shockingly unusual in the political arena. She just happened to be thrust into the national spotlight where her shortcomings would be illuminated 100x more than all the other "idiots" in office. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.

I know! It's the grapes that gave us the idea to dress him up in a toga for the Humane Society Halloween Benefit. Seriously, anything that's laying around--for whatever reason--we put it on Cruzer's head. He's so cute with things on his head. I have a ton of other "Things on Cruzer's Head" photos, but recently I saved most of my photos to discs and left just a few to round my screensaver. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.

BTW, I hope it's not a Reese's peanut-butter cup you're referring to. I've attached a list from the ASPCA of harmful foods to dogs & cats. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
