  1. I tend to agree. I am "pro-choice", but not in a million years because I want to see anyone abort or be in the position to even have to consider it. I have said enough already in previous threads on the subject, and I still feel very, very strongly I would rather see a baby aborted than have gone through "the system" unwanted. It is the lesser evil, imo. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
  2. OK, but... Do you support a doctor's gag order, and would you sign one? Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
  3. I agree! Which leads me to believe--and understand--that your issue with commentary lies in the particular forum, rather than commentary itself. What about Angie's List or something similar? One is only anonymous to other readers, but not to Angie's List. I have both recommended and been recommended for Angie's List. I had a rep from Angie's List call me and ask me questions, etc. As a member, Angie's List knows who I am. I know one of the service providers I recommended to them they called and asked specific questions... Is it just anonymity you have issue with, or online commentary altogether? My question is--Would you support a doctor's gag order? Secondary, would you sign one? Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
  4. But...what is your opinion? Should patients have the right to comment? Karen, I said time might be forgivable and a non-issue. Time was not my point. As for the second part of your post, I have to say this: From what little I know of you (enough to pm you once or twice regarding your expertise), I would recommend you take the $10k... (Perhaps a bad analogy but...) Bill likes a TV show called "The Biggest Loser". I am usually reading or sleeping when he watches it. By proxy, I am semi-familiar with the contestants and this season a front-runner had the option to take a one-pound advantage or $10k. Bill was all "Take the one-pound!". He followed explaining he had seen seasons before and it ALWAYS was the best choice and one pound made a huge difference. I countered if I were her (whom I had seen enough of) I would absolutely take the $10k. Winner gets 250k, mind you. But, if you bet on yourself and know you have done your best, then why bet on others instead? To me, in part, that is what a gag order is doing. It is betting on how many people you do NOT do well for. But, I concede I might not be aware of such sites you have potentially been "burned on" before. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
  5. Interesting. I do not believe people more often speak negatively about services provided than positively, but rather it is the negative the listener tends to remember most. Either way, your first sentence is correct, but... what is your opinion? Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
  6. Random or all? Who is to decide what is random? My hunny is a business owner--a contractor--who is subject to review online. His company is rated "A" and routinely voted best in the city by a local contractors' review by consumers. And I believe they are for good reason. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
  7. I tend to agree. However, as a consumer--and present member of Angie's List--I have written all positive reviews. I have found in my area far more positive than negative reviews. Far more "A" or "B" rated companies than anything less. When I am delivered exceptional service, I want to share that experience and have as many people as possible be delivered the same. I truly want to support that particular service provider and have them reap the benefits of taking pride in their work and producing quality. I have not commented negatively mostly due to my negative experience being "common" and unfortunately "accepted". Why is it acceptable when I make a doctor's appointment it will ALWAYS be at least an hour later when I am first moved to the room and than at least 15 minutes after that before I am seen? I do not comment about such experiences because, isn't that true for all doctor's offices? And such things might even be forgivable and a non-issue. I want to hear about the issues and how someone was treated with respect to those. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
  8. NPR I found this a curious topic to debate: Should patients have the right to comment on care? Just yesterday I searched Angie's List for a specific doctor. I have not been satisfied with my own for sometime. I am not about to post anything personal, but trust my issues were much more than (yet, in addition to) such common things as being late or seemingly not listening to me. Much to my dismay, none of the doctors whom had requested to be member of Angie's List had reviews. There were three pages of doctors, zero with reviews. Angie's "lists" are mostly made up of companies which someone has submitted a review for and subsequently a listing for that company, upon approval, is established. Apparently, businesses are permitted to request a listing without being reviewed. Why would all of these doctors do so and not have a single review? I could argue both sides, however, obviously my initial opinion of whether or not one should be able to comment is: Absolutely! Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
  9. I have never seen it, either. I have also never seen any 007 flick. GASP! Seriously. I did, however, see that one movie with that one main 007 actor and Rene something (can't remember her name, but I LOVED her in Tin Cup) and he stole and then replaced a painting in a museum. That movie was OK. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
  10. I am buying more of everything than I have ever bought before. I have never had this problem. Everything is so damn inexpensive right now and I never realized how weak I am to an incredible offer or deal. It is like that guy in the tire commercial who does not own a car, but just bought four tires for a bargain. I am a woman who researches and shops the hell out of things--the few things I usually buy--before purchasing. I have learned my lesson in the past to carpe diem on anything I KNOW is a real steal. And now that lesson, in this economy, is really fucking me. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
  11. Animal testing for me is circumstantial. I am very aware of useless animal testing and subsequently make a conscious effort never to purchase products from companies who--or whose parent companies--test on animals. W/r/t medicine, in many (most?) circumstances I would take the same position. However, I do see why in some cases it is beneficial. I was actually going to post a response very similar to billvon's . I think in scenarios in which I deem "beneficial" the difference to me is the care and treatment of the animal being tested. I firmly believe testing on an animal and treating the animal inhumanely do not ever need to go hand-in-hand. I admit, seeing glow-in-the-dark dogs run around is not-at-all funny to me. But, as far as I know it is not doing them any harm and is potentially helping humans track what & how various things are doing. As long as the dog has a toy, a bone, is taken on walks and has play time, a comfy bed, food & water and gets a good scratchin' daily then... Sadly, most animal testing is not this way. That is what upsets me about it. I am all for humans volunteering for such testing, however. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
  12. Indeed. I love my coastal Floridian culture. I have been fortunate enough to visit 42 of the 50 states. I am a coastal girl by heart and by proximity. I definitely feel a sense of loyalty and a strong connection to Florida; it is my home, always. My allegiance is most definitely first, and foremost, to the USA. 13. Your issue, as I see it, is being fat "in public". We have all these restrictions on smoking and drinking "in public"--among other things. But, one can not avoid seeing a fat person in public and it would be tough to avoid seeing one eating something . For me, it is all relative. I do not care if you smoke so much as long as I do not have to walk beside you. I do not care if you drink, so long as you do not drive and such. And I do not mind-so-much if you are obese so long as I do not have to sit next to you on an airplane. I am just saying. Airplanes make me prejudice. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.

    CatGenie

It is awesome! I first heard about it here. So, it took a while to order one because of location. I am ALL about location before anything else. One thing led to another and... I renovated our master bathroom (to studs & dirt below the foundation) to make a proper place for the CatGenie.
  15. I admit, I totally love a shy guy. I love coaxing them out of their little shells and finding out what crazy/funny/weird lies beneath. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
  16. Nice guys can not also be fun and exciting? Seriously, this thread has made me feel like I am missing something entirely. Is skydiving not fun & exciting? Are there no nice guys who skydive? I am so confused now. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
  17. Wow. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
  18. "Passive" is not a synonym for "nice". Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
  19. Immaturity. Lack of self-esteem. Lack of independence. Why would a nice guy want that, anyways? OTOH, women like me who never in their life went for the asshole, are no pushovers and can be a bit tough to keep up with. Pick your evil. There in no such thing as in-between. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
  20. I love you, Gup, but it is hard (putting the cart in some sort of designated-told-you-to-cart area). For what it is worth, I am very conscious of making sure the cart has stopped before walking away. Also, I always bring a stray cart in when I see one (holds my big-ass bag) on my way in from the lot. Cart thingies annoy me (I love how they are otherwise placed in a perfectly awesome parking spot. ). I would love to see the stats on how many people actually put them in when there are, like, two in the entire parking lot. Sometimes if it suits me I walk my cart back to the store. Most of the time there is a kind, jovial, little man who is out collecting. THAT is what I like. Yes, I elect to load up my own groceries, but surely the parking-lot-store-guy can take my cart when I am done. That is service. To put my cart in a slot five miles away? Not so much. Edit: My biggest pet peeve is chewing with your mouth open. Eeyuck. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
  21. Yuck. Yuck. Not bad. Dude, wait, what? Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
  22. I would encourage everyone to watch--at the very least--part one of the Dateline special and visit the website created by David's friends: Bring Sean Home. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
  23. Agree! I've only skimmed the thread so this might have already been addressed... What about a test on (or at the very least being able to deny based on documented history of the contrary) mental stability before being granted the right to fertility treatment? Or should everyone have the right so long as that person somehow comes up with the money? Or what about a limit on the number of viable embryos that can be implanted at once? Shouldn't there be one? Or should implanting eight or any other number be one's personal decision, as well? Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
  24. I am not really the type to follow these types of things, nor get too emotionally involved; It is surprising to me I have followed this story for a while now and think about it on a regular basis. I did several searches and I do not believe it has been posted yet. When Bruna passed, I was mostly grateful. I thought this man would finally be reunited with his son. Dateline recently covered the story which you can view or read here. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
