  1. I would scratch Jesse on the withers and he would return the favor by scatching my shoulder with his upper incisors. 3. So was mine. It shocked the crap out of me, but it worked. When I took my practical I went on the advice of my instructor and payed the examiner for an extra hour of his time after the exam was over for some one-on-one instruction. Those guys forget more about flying while taking a dump than most pilots will ever learn in their life. Mine was a Korea & Vietnam veteran. 4. This was the first winter in a long time that I didn't have horses to take care of. In a way it was nice to be able to stay in when it was cold outside, but I sure miss the boys. I'm still amazed how an animal that weighs almost a ton, and could crush me in a heart beat, is as gentle as a kitten and can be just as playful. 5. Stalls sound scary until you do them. Then it's like, "That's it??? That's what I was worried about??". Learning to fly is a wonderful experience. You are going to have a BLAST!
  6. The first thing that you have to understand about college is, even if you win an argument with your instructor, they will get even with you later. (Think grades) I assume you argued that heavy people can fall faster. You did, didn't you? 8. This is why I asked you about your profile... ??? A regular at the DZ would question your statement that the norm is no one gets hurt at all. We made 'femur' into a verb. So what you are saying is that every skydiver gets hurt on every jump??? I don't know where you're jumping, but I would suggest a different DZ. I've made 18 jumps and the only injury suffered was a very mildly sprained ankle when I flaired a tad too high. 9. He is admired by many young people...that's all that matters. He gives credibility to the idea of hard work and dedication. Then he should take that role seriously and obey the laws of the country he is in, regardless of whether he thinks they are just. Many of them will better relate to him, thus making the idea of sucess a little more realistic and tangible rather than this unrealistic illusion of perfection. The majority of people cannot relate to perfection. People are inspired when one overcomes the trials of everyday life and exposes the possibilities of what can be achieved by the Everyday Normal Guy. Phelps is only 23, he has plenty of time to contribute to society Absolutely. And when he does then he will get the respect due a hard working contributing member of society. Until then he is just another guy who can swim like a fish. A very fast fish. and I think we should lay off before he turns into This Guy. I say let him live and achieve the The ultimate american dream. 10. Why are bring into the discussion people I never mentioned? Did I ever claim either way about Lance? Did I ever say EVERY celebrity was the same? Nope. But you sure seem to be intent on making that supposition. I am sure you already know about Lance's work to help fight cancer, so I'll assume that ridiculous remark you made about him not contributing was intentional. What contributions has Phelps made to society? 11. What's your point, Bill? All of those men made contributions to society, some more than others. Whether they used drugs or not has nothing to do with it, same as with Phelps or any other athlete who gets his ass kissed just because he can swim faster, throw harder, or manage to put a ball into a hoop the size of a peach basket. I imagine you and Kallend have each made greater contributions to the betterment of society than Phelps ever will, yet nobody is beating on your door wanting to pay you millions of dollars to endorse their line of clothing or watches. To me that is just not right. 15. Here is a quote from this article: give the guy a break... Why? Because he is an exceptional athlete? Because he has a great work ethic? BFD. I'd actually have more respect for the man if he, instead of apologizing for getting caught, had come out and spoke in favor of legalizing pot. His apology was a repeat of the one he gave in '04. Just more lip service to quiet the media. Phelps works that hard for himself and nobody else. The world is full of people who work just as hard or harder trying to make the world a better place, yet society isn't at it's knees ready to kiss their ass. 16. I think government subsidized student loans qualify as welfare and/or stimulus. MAny people underestimate the huge impact these have on the average college student, many of whom could not attend without. 17. Who really cares how Phelps feels? Did his 14 gold medals make any significant contribution to society? Nope, just to his bank account. Meanwhile people who are making a positive difference in peoples lives go unrecognized and unrewarded. Fuckin' celebrities. Never have so few who contributed so little been given so much. 18. If our society lets people skydive, some people will get hurt. If we let people smoke pot, some may suffer from health consequences. (that level's magnitude is a big part of the disagreement between you and us). It doesn't really matter that someone has to make a mistake to get hurt in the sky - humans will inevitably do that. And the numbers say that a lot more people die skydiving (despite a dramatically smaller participant pool) that those who die from pot. Holy shit! You sure like to go off on a tangent, don't you? It has nothing to do with what society allows. I've stated time and time again that marijuana should be legalized and a person has the choice to use it. The entire point of the comparison to skydiving was that in skydiving the norm is for nobody to get hurt at all...not even a sprained toe, where as using pot causes damage...even a little bit...every time it is used. No exceptions. HAMMER: Originally employed as a weapon of war, the hammer nowadays is used as a kind of divining rod to locate the most expensive parts adjacent the object we are trying to hit.

  20. Just keep on smokin'. You haven't caught on yet, have you? The only things we dissagree on are: MJ causes physical harm when ingested, and people who use it do so because they can't face their problems. Hell, I say legalize the crap and tax the shit out of it! Control it the same as hard liquer...no home grown. Turn that big expense of fighting it into a big deposite in the bank. It's virtually impossible to OD on it. If people want to fry their brain, let 'em. But we may as well make some money from them while they do. 21. I never said it was harmless, I said it was less harmful than many other things. You have never admitted any harm that it causes. Not stating the harm it may cause is not the same as touting it as some kind of harmless drug ... Ok, then you tell me what physical (not leagl or sociological) harm is done by smoking marijuana? What about vaporizing, drinking, or ingesting it? Makes little difference Once again showing what little research you have actually done ... Damage is still done regardless of manner of ingestion. They type of damage is different. Do your research in places other than those run by potheads. This is actuallly starting to be fun. The only reason you can put up for smoking pot is to get high (other than medicinal). You have yet to put up any reason for getting high other than to sissy out of life for a while. 22. Why do people get hurt? Because something goes wrong. Why do things go wrong? Because somebody...or something...screwed up and didn't go according to plan. Unless you are trying to say people who get hurt jumping out of airplanes intend to get hurt ? 24. I never said it was harmless, I said it was less harmful than many other things. You have never admitted any harm that it causes. You smoked pot to get high or get a buzz because you couldn't face reality head on. Believing that everyone else that smokes pot for the same reasons you did ... is stupid. And you smoked it why? Because it tastes good? Yeah, right. Watching Reefer Madness isn't research ... Never saw it in my life What about vaporizing, drinking, or ingesting it? Makes little difference Having trouble facing reality head on? Not a bit
