  1. OK, let's discuss it. Do you think that you may be perceived as aloof and unfriendly because of the ipod, and if so, do you really want to convey that impression? But what do I know?
  2. I was on a wingsuit bigway flock where the orginizers decided on changing the exit on the way up. Everybody got the message except one guy that was rocking out with an Ipod. Not really a big deal, but funny to see the bewildered look on his face when we lined up. Especially of interest to me, since he had posted that he never misses anything because of it. I think it's a case of he don't know what he don't know. Another valid reason to not use one it that people who do seem standoffish and unfriendly to other people, (to me anyway.) I'd rather be friendly and open to conversation. But what do I know?
  3. +1 This worked for me. I got PD Packing by Scott Miller and worked on it at home. Whenever I got stuck, I'd just go watch again then start over. But what do I know?
  4. Most commercial diving schools are really expensive, but this one is just as good. http://www.coastguardtraining.com/rem_diving/default.htm It is a fun and rewarding career. But what do I know?
  5. If that's true, ya might wanna reconsider who you jump with. +1 This is a preventable mistake. The worst case is not threading the strap through the buckle before stowing it under the elastic retainer. Don't ever do that! (Not you Chuck, I think you know better already.) Do it right or don't do it at all. Not closing it at all is easier to catch, for the jumper and everybody else. I make it a habit to check my chest strap as I'm getting on the plane; just a quick rub down my chest will reveal if it is on, and no need to make sure it's routed properly at that time because if it's done up at all, I know it's done up right. As for the original subject, I would not worry too much about it. People can give me any advice they want; I don't have to take it. But what do I know?
  6. A lot of people have more than one suit. Some have a bunch of them. I want a new one now. But what do I know?
  7. I did. That's about the only option if you're in a wingsuit, which is all I do. Any rescue attempt would be 100 times more likely to result in 2 casualties than in a save. (Assuming anyone could get that close, which is unlikely.) So if I am unconscious I will have to rely on my AAD to save me. That's why I got it. So for the record, if it happens, I don't want anybody to try and help. Thanks anyway. But what do I know?
  8. I had a problem with my PF tracking suit, zipper broke, and it was fixed at ZHills by Morpheus. Having a US base is a plus for their products. I also have had very good service from TonySuits. But what do I know?
  9. Pulling the reserve handle does not deploy the reserve either - it just pulls the pin. But what do I know?
  10. Commercial divers routinely breath pure oxygen at -40' to decompress. I say, why not? I've done both, and I'm glad I did. But what do I know?
  11. Excuse me; it sounds like you opened over the top of somebody, and if so, I would have tracked and took it down another 1000 feet, probably getting great horizontal seperation. Counting on vertical seperation is wrong. Please revisit vertical vs horizontal seperation. But what do I know?
  12. Over 5 miles a few times. But what do I know?
  13. Well good for you too. If I were a packer I would be happy to pack for anybody that would pay me the bucks. But what do I know?
  14. Sure, but if somebody does not possess awesome skills, maybe a cell phone is an acceptable substatute. I landed out 30 times in my first 300 jumps. A cell phone was a good way for me to work out my substandard skills, and I'm still here, hahahaha. PS: I once missed the DZ by 10 miles. Hahaha again But what do I know?
  15. So you would rather that people did not use your services? Brilliant business plan! But what do I know?
  16. Yep, the new view from a place you've never jumped can't be beat. I wish I could jump at every DZ there is. I should add the jump at Emeral Coast into the Floribama bar. My best was a wipe out into the sand, which might sound funny, but when a drunk chick called me a 'sugar cookie,' that became a running joke with my wife that still hasn't grown old. But what do I know?
  17. I love the view from Elsinore. Nice mountains right there and you can see the Pacific Ocean beyond them. Red Rock Skydiving in Arizona. The trip to altitude takes you right over the red cliffs of Sedona. Skydive N'awlens. Kind of a tandem factory, but the view of Lake Ponchatrain is really beautiful. Gold Coast Skydivers. Good enough view I guess, but it's such a great place to go I just had to mention it. Z Hills at night. Magical. But what do I know?
  18. Good for you. I use packers sometimes. You don't like it? Gee, I hope I will be able to sleep tonight. But what do I know?
  19. I think that 'love thy neighbor,' and 'turn the other cheek,' is a good way to live, whether you believe in God or not. But what do I know?
  20. Thanks for the reply. I had a similar situation with a 6' bridle in my SM1 after a really good throw. I don't know for sure the short bridle caused it, but I thought it did at the time. But what do I know?
  21. How long is the bridle? But what do I know?
  22. At my home DZ all aspects of safety are handled by the DZO, S&TA, staff, senior jumpers, and junior jumpers, in that order. I have participated in one case myself, as I felt someone was acting in an unsafe manner. I brought it to the attention of the right people, after trying unsuccessfully to deal with it myself, and it was taken care of. I think this system is working pretty well, and no regs from headquarters are really needed. The way it works is, if you're screwing up, fix it. Jump numbers are not a big part of it. I've seen things change with the wingsuit BSR, so now it's more, you have enough jumps, have at it. Overall, I don't see an improvement there, and it may even be less rigorus than it was before. Unintended consequences and all that... I believe you have good intentions, but I'm not really convinced that you have the best answer. To anticipate your response, I think you will say that it's fine at places where it works, but some places are not as good. I agree with that, and if a place is not good enough at it, I'll just go somewhere else. So I am not questioning your motives, just pointing out that your suggestion only addresses 25% of the problem, at an unknown cost to people that may not need it at all. I remember one guy that learned more about wingsuit flying in 5 jumps than I knew in 35 flights. What was a good rule for me, (about flying in flocks,) was not needed for him. I would not want a rule to hold him back just because it was a good rule for me. It's easy to just make a BSR that tells talented people tough shit, but I don't like it. But what do I know?
  23. I know that most accidents are under a good canopy, and that is the basis for saying something must be done. So you propose solving the problem of low time jumpers under too small canopies. But wait a minute. How many accidents are from low time jumpers under small canopies? It looks to me like there are other problems that don't happen under too small canopies at all. Collisions, low turns and crashes under big tame canopies for example. Those seems to account for about half the wrecks. Now what about high number guys under small canopies? They seem to be about half the small canopy problem right? Factor in the low number guys under small canopies that don't crash. So your BSR works on about 25% of the problem, the way I add it up, and tough shit for the guys that weren't causing any trouble in the first place. The biggest supporters of this are guys with high numbers that won't be affected at all. Easy enough for them to say tough shit, isn't it? How about nobody jumps small canopies? That would take care of closer to half the problem than 25% wouldn't it? And since I don't jump a small canopy, I think it's perfect. But what do I know?
