I hope you will reconsider because I'm not seeing how you wearing one helps anyone but you? I wear one because it may help me. So far, it hasn't, but that's a good thing. Whether anyone else does is not a factor in if I will jump with them. But what do I know?

In Brazil if you give the "OK" sign it means, "You're an asshole." Thumb up is OK. Also good to know if you DON'T want to say somebody's an asshole. But what do I know?

Keep trying. I've used that payment plan and it worked for me; there are other ways, just be careful. No, don't send money out blind. When you find what you want, try and make the deal quickly. Once a seller commits to do the deal, they should follow through, but until that point, they are free to sell to somebody else. You saying, "I'll take it," does not necessarily mean you'll get it, if somebody else beat you to it. The seller should tell you what happened, IMO, but some won't bother. But what do I know?

Psychology of Risk Scuba/Skydive
fasted3 replied to blkhwk91b's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I agree with you. Commercial divers do have the safety culture, and when I'd go Scuba diving for fun I'd be amazed at what those crazy suckers would do. To the next post: I did manage to scare myself that bad underwater a time or two, but I agree with you too. But what do I know? -
Psychology of Risk Scuba/Skydive
fasted3 replied to blkhwk91b's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Here we go with odds again... All things being equal, then... But they are not equal with either activity. Scuba can vary even more than skydiving, IMO, depending on what your 'discipline' is, yet the numbers all drop into the same hat. Cave diving, deep and mixed gas, going in wrecks, all much more dangerous than average SCUBA, and possibly riskier than average skydiving, but if you keep it shallow and simple, it's really pretty safe compared to skydiving. Weather is a major factor in both activities as well, as are gear choices and attitude. But what do I know? -
With enough technology, is socialism actually viable?
fasted3 replied to Bolas's topic in Speakers Corner
In a lot of ways, we are already there. How many people in the US actually do useful jobs? Oddly enough, most of those jobs pay the least. But what do I know? -
As a spectator to this, I've gone both ways. Sometimes you seem like a good guy and other times I've been ready to grab a torch and pitchfork. I still don't know. If you wanted to convince me, you would start by severing all relations with Skyride. You know they are scum, so even if it costs you money it's worth it. Next, keep working to give non participating DZ's a fair shake. Don't direct people away from them, or make ones that do participate look more legitimate. Last, don't rape the ones that do sign up. An honest business that actually helps them is worth some bucks, so take what's fair. I don't think you getting half of their profit is fair at all. I don't know what you are getting, but if you aren't greedy about it, and hopefully add some business for them, I'll take you for the good guy you seem to want to be. But what do I know?

Excellent post. Thanks to you and the OP for giving us all a valuable lesson. But what do I know?

You math guys are hurting my head. All other things are NOT equal anyway. Just like driving. Every time I see some idiot doing something stupid, I say to myself, 'Thanks pal, you can have my slot.' Sure, I can still have a wreck, but I'm not as likely to as they are. But what do I know?

When do you stow your brakes?
fasted3 replied to ihazkittehz's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I admit I also get a few twists after a full day of jumping, now that you mention it. I take my rig home unpacked and do a thorough inspection and strip out the brake lines before packing it. But what do I know? -
Who will get your kids if you die? What will their life be like if you get severely broken? If you are not comfortable with the answers to those questions, then you should not skydive. It can be an expensive and time consuming sport, maybe more than you realize, so take that into consideration as well. But what do I know?

When do you stow your brakes?
fasted3 replied to ihazkittehz's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
If you don't let go of the toggles before stowing them, where would twists come from? I don't think one or two twists are a problem anyway, but I'm sure some will disagree. Feel free to enlighten me. But what do I know? -
When do you stow your brakes?
fasted3 replied to ihazkittehz's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
The issue is to prevent your brake lines from twisting up. A or B will do that, especially if you don't let go of the toggles until it's done. Getting out of the way is important too, and takes precidence for me if I'm in the way. If necessary, I will untwist the brakes before packing. I usually stow them completely in the landing area because I'm usually the last one to land. That is the reason I voted for that option. The reason I want them untwisted is because twists can be burned in if you jump them that way. It also may increase the chances of a mal. This would be a good discussion to have with a rigger at your DZ. But what do I know? -
Are you sure? I've heard you can get at least misdemeanors cleared off your record just by asking. I'm wondering if there isn't a way to do that with felonies too. I've also heard that you can be pardoned for felonies, thus clearing your record. Not sure who can do it, but the president did it in a case I heard of. Not to argue, for a change, just trying to get educated. Anyway, as for old stuff followed by years of no problems, I say forgive and forget. We all make mistakes, but not all of us get caught. But what do I know?

KIDS It bugs me they give you so much shit when I'm older than you. But what do I know?

Damn, that pic of me diving is almost as old as you are. I could still do it though, I bet. But what do I know?

Head first is better. But what do I know?

When it happens, I will agree with you. I'll agree that he should be rich, and I agree that some jobs should pay more than others. I just don't see the huge disparity that is happening now as a good thing. But what do I know?

Nobody convinced me, yet a lot of my dollars ended up in their hands. I used to have an IRA... I doubt that anybody is convinced that the wall street and banking swindlers deserve multi-million dollar bonuses. Most politicians aren't worth the price of a rope to hang them, IMO. I wouldn't be surprised if your wife provides more value to society than most people that 'earn' more than $1,000,000 per year. But you like our system? Really? But what do I know?
-
I agree with you about there being too many laws to protect us from ourselves. As for the rest of your post, not so much. But what do I know?

What work is worth 1,000,000 times as much as other work? People that make things, grow things, teach, heal, and other real jobs get little to show for their work, in comparison to those that gamble, cheat, steal, politic, and inherit. To get results like that, I think is a fucked up system. But what do I know?
-
A good question. Another is: Will they be jumping? Some may be open, but if not enough people are there, they won't run the plane. Check out the Dropzone tab above to find out what's close to you, then call them before you go. But what do I know?

Why are there more C licenses than B???
fasted3 replied to cctpud01's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I got them all. I like seeing my name in Parachutist. But what do I know? -
Well said. I agree, and to be clear, I oppose torture, including waterboarding, not only as an American, but as a human being. But what do I know?
