Suddenly John McCain decides experience ISN'T important and goes with the winner of the Miss Wasilla beauty pageant. If his wife is disfigured in a car accident anytime soon, she better hope the pre-nup holds up in court. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

Will US cities burn if Obama is not elected?

His sarcasm is evident. Your's is either non-existent or oddly disguised and quite difficult to detect. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew) -
So do you think he should have used his acceptance speech to flip flop? Or do you think he should have used his acceptance speech to discuss detail rather than big-picture platform? Personally, I think keeping the same platform subsequent to nomination is a good thing. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

I'm torn on his selection of Biden. Bottom line, I'm thinking he fought the biggest fire and went with the guy with the most foreign policy experience. I'd still have preferred Powell or Clark, but I suppose Biden does fit the bill on the whole "lack of experience" issue McCain's been exploiting. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" Must be a Tough Day to be Crying the "R" word...

I'm pretty sure you consider me a leftie, though I don't really. I was told today that while our union jobs are safe into the upcoming year, the rest of us scientist, engineer, and manager types might want to dust off our resumes. That's enough for me to anecdotally state that a recession or depression looms for many folks...just not those favored by the left. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" Yeah, I mentioned that little bit of trivia too. Of course it's a simple technicality, not relevant at all. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

Wouldn't this be Part IV? Wait, is someone going to accuse me of having a messianic complex for using Roman numerals? Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

But more seriously, my answer is yes, I would again commit the US to that cause. Hitler's army was invading other countries, bombing our allies, and there was that little thing about Germany and Italy having declared a state of war against us. By contrast, Saddam Hussein was not invading other countries, not bombing any of our allies, and was not preparing for or capable capable of pressing a war against us. In short, he was well-contained and did not pose a significant threat to us. If you're trying to draw a comparison between him and Hitler, the ties are so tenuous as to be almost invisible. I think they stop somewhere around "oppressive dictator". Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

Where's the option for "Yes, as a direct result of more of the same foreign policy"? Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew) -

I usually pull between 5000 and 5500, sometimes higher on a long spot, occasionally just slightly lower when making a turnaround. I think most of the smack you hear is just residuals from your first couple of tandems, when you were pulling at 6500+ . Then again, when I pull, land, geek the camera, daisy-chain/pick up my stuff, and walk halfway back to the hangar before you land, I'm pretty sure you pulled significantly higher than 5200. In any case, just keep doing what you're doing and tell anyone who flips you shit to fuck off. You're doing just fine. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

Share What You Don't Like About the Candidate You are Supporting

I'm definitely not a fan of Obama's stance on gun control. Like all major politicians, he wants entirely too much welfare for my taste. I don't really like the way he panders to urbanites, despite the fact I realize that's where most of the votes are, and I'm not sure how committed he is to balancing the budget. I'm not sure history tells such tales, as we never know what would have happened if a different approach had been taken. I don't think it's a coincidence that once we'd (righteously) deposed the Taliban and gained access to a big chunk of Iran's eastern border, we leap-frogged over to Iraq and seized access to most of Iran's western border. Do you think that is an untrue statement? I think anyone who does or doesn't vote for him on the basis of his race is racist. Blues, Dave So true but, I dont think you realize you have labeled many more black people than white............. at least according to poling numbers and surveys done While I'm sure there are some blacks voting for him solely because he's black, how many do you think switched teams to do so? It seems to me, the Democrats have pulled a pretty substantial majority of that vote with their white candidates too. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

If the invasion itself was immoral, as many argue, then can you hold them to this morality? I still see them as distinct. Well, a teenager shouldn't hold a party at his parents' house while they're away for a weekend. If he does anyhow, he has then obligated himself to clean up the mess that results from said party. Dave, your description is not accurate. We did not trade 3000+ US lives to remove him and execute him. That cost considerably fewer lives. The trade of 3000 was to attempt nation building, which was not necessary if the goal was just to remove Saddam. I still would have removed him, would have left in 2004, right when many of you insisted we had to stick around and trade more lives. While you have a good point, I think we became morally obligated to the Iraqi people when we invaded their country and removed their government, so the rebuilding can't really be considered a separate and distinct action. It's just cleaning up the mess we made, kind of like doing the dishes after cooking dinner...part & parcel to the project. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

What annual income puts you among "The Rich"?
livendive replied to kallend's topic in Speakers Corner
I wonder what % of Joe's income is from investments, as compared to the average billionaire. translation - the good professor thinks that getting identical tax rates on identical investments = 'preferential treatment" for the one with more wealth or income or even just if they look different or live somewhere or say things other than what the libs want them to Mike - once you realize this, it's easier to recognize the exchange will go nowhere Some people have money, some don't. The people with money can invest it for income. The people without it must work for income. Income taxes are lower for investment earnings than they are on labor earnings. Therefore, the people with money have the opportunity to have their income taxed at a lower rate than those without money. The question isn't really whether different sources of income are taxed equally, it's whether they should be. In my opinion, offering a tax incentive for investing rather than spending is likely a good thing, as it encourages desirable behavior. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" They're not worded exactly opposite of each other, which was a mistake, but they're also not terribly biased. If you were given the option of sacrificing 3000 service members for Saddam's removal from office and execution, you either would or would not take it. Which is it? Personally, I would not. Blues, Dave You did it again. ...sacrificing 3000 ......... Care to try again? Dont you see you framed the pole in a way that anyone disagreeing with you does not have a choice they can make? What word would you prefer I use in my question? Note that it's my question, you don't get to change it to a totally different question. Rephrased again: If you knew what deposing and executing Saddam was going to cost in terms of lives (and money for that matter), would you consider the cause worth of the price tag and do it all over again? On one hand you have 3000 living US service members. On the other hand you have Saddam still in power in Iraq. You can choose to kill none of them or kill all of them. Which would you choose?
