Has your AFF/TI work taken the fun out of it?
livendive replied to bigbearfng's topic in Instructors
If we assume "afternoon" goes from say, noon to 6 PM, 24 loads would require 15 minute turns...not including fueling time, gear-up time, packing time, etc. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew) -
It's kind of like skydiving fatalities. While we can't really eliminate all of them, we should work like that's our goal. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

The article I read said he got out of the truck and started firing at police. Either way, his death was well-earned. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

Except that we went to war alongside their government and never had any combat with their military because our target was Al Qaeda, not Afghanistan. If the Taliban was on our side, why did we remove them from power? Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

pull altitude for more advanced jumpers.
livendive replied to skittles_of_SDC's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
As soon as I was allowed to pull at 2k, I did. I stuck in the 1700-2300 range for several hundred (fun) jumps. Eventually, I put a CYPRES in my rig, but wouldn't turn it on for anything other than AFF. In the last couple years, I've gotten better at turning my AAD on, and I've been making a conscious effort to up my pull altitude (odd, when eyeballs are "calibrated" for 2k). I've been mostly successful and now generally pull between 2.5 and 3k. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew) -
Question for those who don't believe in a higher power.
livendive replied to gonzalesna's topic in Speakers Corner
If you asked one of those cells what is the most supreme intelligence in the universe, what kind of answer would you expect? If you asked an ant to describe the intelligence of a human, how close do you think it could get to the truth? If you asked a dog what is the most supreme intelligence in the universe, what kind of faith would you put in it's answer? Why would a human be any more likely to comprehend a vastly greater intelligence, such that one might give a reasonably accurate answer? Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" Of course if humans were to invent God, wouldn't they be likely to give him supremely powerful but distinctly human attributes? Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew) -

If I remember correctly, you're somewhere near Boise. The Ste Michelle webpage lists the following places as carrying Eroica (all within Boise city limits). Bardenay Boise, 610 W Grove St Boise Co-Op Wine Shop, 915 N 8th St Buzz Coffee & Cafe, 2999 N. Lake Hbr In Athletic Club Costco Wholesale #761, 2051 S. Cole Rd Murphy's Seafood, 1555 Broadway Ridleys B/W Boise, 2450 N Bogus Basin Rd Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

St. Michelle's Dr. Loosen Eroica should fit nicely into that range of off-dry to off-sweet, around 1.5% residual sugar, and it's readily available in the northwest...our local Costco usually has it for around $20. The mango sounds like a good topping, but not if there are flavors in it dramatically overpowering the flavor of the fruit. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

It has more to to with equating an entire (generally peaceful) religion with "islamofascism." Nice to see somebody speak up - it's about time. However... Race = religion? Don't think so. mh . You are correct, race /= religion. Hatred and ridicule of the collective followers of any particular religion makes one a bigot, but not necessarily racist. If that xenophobia extends to Arabs in general (e.g.), then the person is also a racist. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

I always found this to be a very striking picture (Jack Russel guarding the corpse of his master, a white farmer in Zimbabwe). The stories of the Skye Terrier (Scotland) and the Akita (Japan) here are pretty "awww..." too. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

Of course not. I want retards as my tandem catchers and eventually as my pall-bearers. Sorry coach. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)

24 loads in the afternoon. Wow that's one heckuva 182. Exactly my thought, especially since it appears the TI's were having to pack. I gotta see one of these jet-powered 182's. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew) -

Question for those who don't believe in a higher power.
livendive replied to gonzalesna's topic in Speakers Corner
One would have to define "proof", and I think mathematics might be a good place to start. In any case, lonstanding scientific theories are a lot more substantiated than those that the various religions would have us accept without supporting evidence. I've not yet made it to France, but I hope to go there and spend a LOT of money some day, partly in gratitude for the help they've given our country over the years, partly for the statue of liberty, and mostly to piss off all the Americans who've forgotten those things. Humanity HAD one purpose, to pass down DNA, but with 6.8 billion people on the planet, that's not really all that important right now. So the new purpose is to get the code off the rock. I'm pretty sure that's a fair distance into the future. In the interim, we could just slow down on the thriving thing and focus more on the prosper. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" This is the part I wish more people understood, religion being but one topic to which it is applicable. If more people were willing to admit, "I don't know", this forum would get 80% fewer posts. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew) -

I have been close a few times too. but why would you have thing of embarassing, regret or guilt on your mind. the last couple of times I have been close my wife and friends and family have been at the forefront. Certainly not any concept of a GOD The emotions were directly related to my loved ones, i.e. feeling shame over leaving my daughter fatherless, my mom heartbroken, etc.. In other words, guilt over the pain I was about to cause others. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew) -

There's an old saying "there are no atheists in Foxholes" I've been pretty sure of my impending death on a few occasions, and religion/god was the furthest thing from my mind. Embarassment, regret, and guilt over the stupid decisions I'd made to put myself in those positions were front and center. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
