    I'm not surprised in the least. In order to get/keep power, both parties need to give as much as possible to their base, while pissing off as few as possible. The kids who can't yet vote are thus a very attractive (albeit short-sighted) source of income, and while the Republicans are worse than the Democrats, both parties are guilty of robbing the future blind.     Actually I've lurked this forum for a long time in an effort to learn. It's nice to see both sides of things which allows me to make up my own mind. Also I try to keep an open mind and allow myself to be convinced if someone's argument is good enough. Likely I wouldn't ever admit it though because it's usually a slow process requiring real world confirmation rather than a sudden epiphany based on a person's writings over the internet. So far I can attribute one issue I flip flopped on thanks to speakers corner....the death penalty. Yeah, I've had my opinion altered on occasion here too, but that's the exception, not the rule.     Mostly because it's fun. Let's be honest here. Few, if any, come to Speaker's Corner to learn or teach, and I doubt many of us have any illusions about the odds of convincing anyone of anything here.     I've never mocked your arguments because they don't agree with mine. I have mocked some that were not based in logic or that were about as far from cogent as one can get, but that doesn't mean I think you're stupid. Also, everyone here is "uneducated" with regard to some issues, including you and me. I try to stay out of the arguments on my weaker topics, but don't always succeed.     Unfortunately you view the issue as black and white. It's not. You view GWB's presidency as a complete failure. I do not. You see only the bad. I see some of both. I would have thought an educated man would have balance. Ability to see all sides. You are blinded by hatred for GWB. People who see things in black and white scare me.
