+1, If you have to get someone to pack for you for whatever reason, be damn sure you know who it is and their experience level. Anyone can pack, some just pack better than others. R. One Jump Wonder

Hi N I'm even 10 yr's older then Mr twardo so I've had a lot more chances to be happy or sad than you all. Everyone makes poor decisions and good ones in a lifetime . Looking back at the big picture and the roads I've traveled I don't regret anything.

Have you tried Youtube.com? or Google? Sorry I couldn't help myself Me bad R. One Jump Wonder

I agree with you 100% the weather in the PNW sucks 100% of the time and no one should move here Unless they have to. R. One Jump Wonder

Meh... I've never had a dishwasher - don't see the point unless you have kids. Which I don't. I've heard that some people don't wash their dishs after every meal The dishwasher can be a useful tool to reduce the cluter in the kitchen sink, counter and floor. Or to get even Friend said his wife put his blackberry in the D.W. by "accident". I think he believed her R. One Jump Wonder

Hi Last year was the first time we got a flue shot in at least 25-30 yr's Thought it might be a good idea since we're in a high risk group .....old. This year we'll pass. Don't know anyone that has kids or grandkids, don't travel in airtubes, retired etc. OTOH we have been eating cantaloupe the last couple of days. Their on sale! R. One Jump Wonder

QuoteReno's got crap for skydiving and no cycling in the winter. SLC has two turbine DZ's less than an hour away and awesome skiing. Cycling will suck in the winter. SoCal isn't that expensive since the market dropped, is it? Seattle has a lot to offer, including a Super Otter DZ in Shelton, WA. Just bring your raingear for the winter bike rides. QuoteTo the OP Seattle does have a lot to offer, Mtns , large bidues of water (cold) and challenging traffic, high costs of living and major cutbacks in gov't services due to the economy .The weather isn't bad depending on what you like. Bike rides

Mr T Stop confusing the issue with the facts. STOP RESISTING, STOP RESISTING, or you will be tased. Remind me of the Rec. skydiving days when we found out the GMDZ membership was less than a cup of starbucks/day. All that time and effort to develope a "brand" and USPA gave it away for chump change. Anyone know what the USPA GMDZ annual fee is these days. Since some demo folks and jumpers could care less about 11/11/11 because they don't get a paid holiday why should the other fun jumpers care about the demo teams. R. One Jump Wonder

Do you bring a phone when skydiving?
Krip replied to YvonneWiggers's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
+1 Fossil time: When landing out we always tried to land close to a road, But there was at least one times before cell phones that it could have saved at least one jumpers life that I know of. Life a bitch when you need to rush someone to the hospital, after dark in Ks, no phones, the car has a flat and no spare These days almost everyone has a cell just borrow there's It's nice when someone lands out and someone from the load lands with them just in case. FWIW. R. One Jump Wonder -

The “old farts” that take the time to give advice have too many memories and stories of friends who wouldn’t listen and died because of it. The young guns that have the “I know what I am doing” attitude haven’t seen their buddies bounce 4 feet off the ground and land in a heap. It’s sad to say but some of us are here because of the lessons we gleaned from the deaths and life changing injuries of others. But we learned and survived. It’s a good thing that most jumpers move on after about 3 to 5 years or the body count would over the top. Sparky Hi Mr Sparky I can understand a some folks not wanting to listen to the old farts, what do they know anyway But the incidents forum has all the objective info of all the ways to date of how people have killed and maimed themselves, includeing the latest trend of not only hurting themselves but other jumpers in the air and on the ground. Don't want to get hurt really really bad, don't do the stupid shit that the other guys/gals did to get really really hurt. IMO minor injuries are part of skydiving but the latest trend of injuries is just using poor judgement and is even selfish when they hurt someone else. USPA is going to do anything to stop the carnage, most of the GMDZO won't do anything to prevent it. There is a solution to this self induced problem. IMO The fun jumper skydivng community needs to start policing themselves rather than relying on the industry to do their job. I think thats one of the reasons there's lots of "Teams" not only for competion purposes but to protect themselves from jumping with the people that may harm them. R. To bad they don't include all the people that walk with a pe One Jump Wonder -
Hi CReW The scary part is the photo you attached. The dude was packing the parachute outside in the....sun. On the grass No wonder Scarlett was being cranky. Thats no way to treat a lady R. One Jump Wonder

Hi Guy's and Gal's Had to get my log books out of my fireproof security vault to respond to and fossils question and thought It was time for another thread for the history and trivia forum. Times change, equipment changes, etc. How many jumps did you all have before your first 8 way.? We got ours on Jump # 392 aug 73 from a formation load, a Howard and C-180 exit altitude was 10.5 . 7 out of 8 folks on the load got their SCR #'s at a DZ located in Fulton MO. Except its hot and humid in MO in August I know it's no big deal these days, read a post in the skydivng forum a few yr's back some sky Babe posts she got her SCR on jump #30 something ........ with the punch line Whats a SCR. A SCR is a SCR R. One Jump Wonder

Hi Mr Twardo If #357 is "Jack" Bergman that was the treasurer of USPA During the Norm Heaton days. If Jon L Bergman is not Jack me bad Jack passed away a "while" back. Jack used to print a summary of USPA's balance sheet every yr in parachutist. He also work as a estimator for the company that constructed the arch in St Louis. I find the list of the first 400 D's interesting due to the cluster's by location. NC, and other parameters, weather etc. R. One Jump Wonder

Hi OW6 I'll play Almost back in the day 68 that is. We had a sweet job in the AF flying on C-130, had to wear a rig on the plane during drop ops and other rare occasions. Thought it might be a good idea to actually make a real jump just in case.

A paid holiday for a lot of people who aren't veterans and just another day at work for a lot of people who are veterans. Yup.... I guess that holiday hasn't "trickled down" for you either huh. Hi A In the construction trades (union) there are inly 6 red letter days (paid days off). New years, july 4, memorial day, labor day, Xmas and turkey day.. No Sick leave and the contractor kicks in A $1/hr worked for a vacation fund. The trades are not guaranteed a 8hr day, 40 hr week, or 2000 hrs/yr. 8 hrs work for 8 hr's/pay They don't get two weeks advance notice before a layoff. 30 minutes to pick up their tools if the ccontractor pays by the rules. Their health insurance is based on working a minimum number of hr's/qtr, that they have no control over so health insurance can be spotty during lean times. One year my boss (a carpenter) worked 500 hr's due to the economy. Even during a good economy depending on what part of the country their working in, a lot of jobs shut down during the winter. SIUCC's and pass the chesse there's a lot of people that have it worse than you do at least you folks have jobs. Inside jobs with flushing toilets and running water. These days for some people, any job is a good job. Amazon please please please don't give me another hug. I'm to old and wouldn't enjoy it as much as the first or second time. R One Jump Wonder

Hi 008 I was when i moved to KCMO in 1970 and found out that women or maybe just women with kids got a free pass from jury duty. Times change, fast fwd 40 yr's and we were sitting in court room in the PNW and a lady with a little baby on her hip tried to plead guilty to burning garbage in a burn barrel. The judge was not happy and advised her to get a PD or he had the right to sentence her to a yr in jail on the spot and DSHS would immediatly take custody of the child. The judge cautioned the lady that once she plead guilty his decison could not be appealed The lady took the judges offer for a PD.
