VIDEO - Puerto Rico Freefall Fest 2006: Wingsuit Edition
freefalle replied to The111's topic in Wing Suit Flying
Damn fine work Matt, you should be proud of that!! -
I concur with the masses for the most part. You certainly can stay with the FTP, its not really that much heavier that most other helmets it just depends on how you load it. . If you are going to use it for tandems, consider, as Lori said, loading both your still and video on top in line with your spine as much as possible. You may even want to consider mounting the still verticle. You can mount the still inverted from the plate, and you "probably" wont notice the difference until you get an hard opening. Just be careful on how you load it, just because you can put a ton of shit on that helmet, doesn't mean you have to.

Tandem Malfunction - Video all Tandem masters needs to see!
freefalle replied to flyer299's topic in Instructors
I can't really tell from the photos or the video so I'll ask. Was the secondary handle misrouted to begin with. I know that they were jumping from a small aircraft but it seems like that handle was routed pretty loosely. I too would wonder what the TI didn't cut away before deploying the reserve. Again, I can't see every thing that happened during that skydive by the video but, I think it was totally a judgement call on his part, Im not questioning his decision but I would be curious to his rational. -
tell her to kiss your ass, you tried to do something nice for her and her kid, you warned her about the movie, she should have watched it first. Ungrateful heffer.

2 All: I'm looking for Peter G from DZ Space Center (FL)
freefalle replied to DowZ's topic in Freeflying
Kling is right, you can contact Peter at that number. If for some odd reason you can get ahold of him P.M. your contact info. Ill pass it along to him for you -
Which lens you use depends on how close you fly to you tandems. I know people who fly with a .03 who truly need to be flying with a .03 because when they are shooting the tandem I could touch their nose because they are close. I also know people who shoot tandem videos who use a .03 lens because they think thats whats cool. The problem is they fly so far away from the tandem pair the the tandem looks small in that wide field of view. My recommendation to poeple who are learning to shoot video is to not use a wide angle lens at all, if you are flying 6 or more feet away from the tandem pair the standard lens on most video cameras will do just fine and also provide a better video. As your skills improve, if you find that you like flying closer to the tandem pair start with a .05, and when that isn't wide enough move to a .45 or a .3 Thats just my suggestion, for what its worth.

Error 99 on Canon Rebel XT?? Please Help!
freefalle replied to SkyDiveGlamis's topic in Photography and Video
What lens are you using. Its possible the lens isn't compatable with the camera. What settings are you using when you are taking the photos? Error 99 is a catch all for cannon. its what the camera gives you when it can't specify the problem -
Let me preface this response by saying at our DZ, we mail out our videos after the end of the weekend. That being said some of the guys who are shooting digital will mail there photos out with the video. I personally like the idea of the customer leaving with SOMETHING that they paid for. Therefore, I burn my photos to a CD and give that to them before they leave. If time doesn't permit or if they don't have time to wait then I mail them too them. I'd like to get one of those devices that burn directly form a CF card to a CD but I need to learn more about them and where I can find one. If you are speaking about landing shots Im assuming that you are speaking about someone who doesn't get video and still but would like a landing shot? We shoot a digital still of their landing one of the guys at the DZ has a printer there so he prints it out and puts it in a nice frame they leave with it and the charge is 15.00 Hope this helps

Opinions vary about settings. Ill share what has worked well for me. Sunny days TV 500 ISO 100 Ive frequently bumped the shutter speed as high as 1000 on sunny days just to see what happens, I've had good results with that Cloudy days I still use the TV setting but I'll bump it down to 250 and Ill bump the ISO to 200. Play with the camera settings outside during different times of day, look in the view finder and push the button down 1/2 way adjust the shutter speed until the apeture setting stops blinking, that should give you a good shot. When I shoot I try to use settings that will give me a long depth of field. However I've shot some stuff before using a short DOF while using the AV setting and got some really nice results. have fun and enjoy it. hope this helps.

I took some time off, I've been back for a semester now. Its tough at times, I work full time and Im in nursing school. My advise is but yourself on a schedule, try to work the same days/hours every week and budget your time. find out what works for you and stick to it. good luck, education is the key to a better life.

Bob Hallet of skydive Deland and I one had a conversation about the cost of starting up a drop zone and how to do it. He once told me, take a million dollars of your own money and throw it into away, then go borrow a million dollars from someone else and don't make the same mistakes. Good luck, follow your dreams
