  1. i just asked our resident expert on crown royal and he said that as long as it was stored in a dark place, it will improve in flavour and aroma. something about the tannin it absorbs form the oak barrels it is aged in (similar to aging red wine). as far as mixing it, don't. you have a very nice bottle, sip it on the rocks. when you start to get wobbly, switch to something cheap and save the good stuff for later when you can appreciate it. 2. doesn't that seem to happen any time there are major power outages for whatever reason? good thing for television, otherwise north america would have a population bigger than china. mabye that's the reason there are so many of them, nothing else to do! 3. just did that more well deserved kudos for velocity's customer service: due to an error (probably in the measurements i made when i ordered ), my main lift web is a little long and the rig doesn't fit 'just right'. anywho, i sent some pics of me in the rig and they agreed that it was a bit long and that if i shipped it back to them it would be corrected free of charge. i said that i would happily pay for the repairs if the problem was the measurments i gave them, but i was told to stop arguing, the work would be free. knowing that the main lift web is the 'foundation' of the harness and shortening it will not be a trivial repair, i think that this is above and beyond as far as customer service goes. thanks for a great rig, and even greater service! 5. gotta go with betsy on this one... everyone is entitled to their opinion, but it's just an opinion, not fact. i'm not a dzo, but at a cessna dz (like my home dz), you kinda see what is going on. there is a huge amount of work that goes on behind the scenes to keep even a small dz operating, i can't imagine what it ouwld take to run a place the size of perris (or eloy, or sdc, or any of the other 'big' dz's) with all the aircraft, staff, equipment and everything else that makes a dropzone happen. the fact that they have run the business well enough over the years to finance a wind tunnel ($1,000,000+ i believe) and buy a jet, then refit it for jumping, build up a runway to handle it and jump through all the regulatory hoops to get it in the air tells me that they have a pretty good handle on what they're doing. more power to them! 7. another post brought this subject up and started to get hijacked on this subject so i thought i'd break it out on it's own as there seemed to be some good points made. assuming you have a choice (ie, you're not in a 182), what kind of seating do you prefer in a jump ship, and why? i've never been in anything with straddle benches, but of the other two i think i prefer the floor because you aren't sliding into or getting slid into by people next to you. you can lean back and be comfy on the ride up. can't see out the windows too well, so i think the straddle benches would be best, given a choice. 8. yup, just last week i thought i had the world by the balls, then friday the ass fell out of it. things are coming around again though, they always do. i have no idea what you're going through, but hang in there.
  9. never tried straddle benches... side benches i find (with my extensive 15 or so jumps with them ) are uncomfortable because the plane climbs so steep that you tend to slide down the bench. sitting on the floor (again, maybe 6 or 8 jumps) i found way more comfortable because you can just lean back and enjoy the ride. straddle benches would seem to be the best way to go, although floor seating would be better both in an emergency situation (everyone out, NOW!) and those benches probably weigh as much as a jumper or two (more jumpers or less fuel burnt). i'm jump at a cessna dz, so any otter is cool. its not a popping sound.. apparently its an actual gunshot they used for the sudden opennings... it was on in the hanger during a weather hold recently.... everytime a chute openned someone cluched their chest and fell over.... soon everyone was on the floor.... ...and if the canopy did make that noise on opening, the sound would be out of synch to an observer ont he ground. would it be possible that they were using some sort of small 'cap gun' type of device to make the sound on opening? they stuck flour or whatever in with the canopy to make the 'smoke' puff on opening, why not something to make a noise? 11. sort of, although there are a fair number of techies at the dz. i'm a unix admin, so i can honestly say that i don't know much about pc's any more. i look after our web site though, so i guess that makes me geek-ish if not a geek. 12. i'm looking for some of the big retailers in the states, but other than best buy and circuit city, i'm drawing a blank. google wants me to search through a directory for each letter of the alphabet and i figure that would take all freaking day. any suggestions? 13. bunky has been my nickname since i was born. i was a 'jr' and inhereited the nickname too, and i went by the nick and my dad went by our first name so that we'd know who my mom was mad at. the 'king' got added when i signed up for hotmail way back when and bunky was taken. i fiugred that chances were i was a bunky first, so i should get to be king. 16. timex expedition analog. mine has an alarm, indiglo night light and date. works great (it's my 3rd in the last 6 or 7 years) for about $60CDN. "Hang on a sec, the young'uns are throwin' beer cans at a golf cart." MB4252 TDS699 killing threads since 2001
  17. "always be sure." watched a guy pack the other day and when he was done someone who had been watching came over and asked him if he remembered to un-collapse his slider. he said, 'yeah, i think'. the other guy said 'are you sure?' he thought for a bit, then unpacked his rig to check. it was un-collapsed, but the point was that he had been chatting away while packing and wasn't sure that he had done it. that and it was kind of a dirty trick, but it was raining anyway. 18. i told him my jump numbers and stuff, so i'm sure he's building an appropriate suit. as far as coming to florida... might have to wait until next winter, but i'll look you up then. can't wait to see the suit, got it to match my new rig. should be stylin' in a month. 19. i ordered it a few weeks ago, and i checked in with him early this week and he told me it would be out the door by the end of the week. oh well, it has everything i'll need for several years with my experience and location. besides, if i upgraded any more my wife would probably have something to say about it. 20. thanks for the kind thoughts and words. i know that there are people who think 'it's just an animal, get over it'. i will, but when you like animals, they really become family members. we spent 4 1/2 years with simon and he will be sorely missed. a lot of people are creeped out by ferrets, but those that have them know how funny and personable they are. we have three others, and they all have very distinct personalities. simon was the laid back one who would wander over, flop on his back at your feet and wait to be picked up. he was the one who figured out how to open kitchen drawers and climb to the top one from inside the cabinet, then open it from inside to get on the counter. it took quite a bit of work to 'ferret-proof' the house, mostly on account of him. it's not like losing a child, sibling, spouse or parent, but it's close. 21. we have a jewellery rider on our house insurance to cover my wife's engagement ring, i imagine you could do the same with renter's insurance. just find a plicy paper or something to get the company, call the agent and explain the situation. i'm sure they'll play along. i'm assuming of course that you'll be giving it to her soon, if it needs to be kept somewhere safe until then, a safe deposit box is cheap insurance. 22. good to hear. i got a fairly pimped out competition suit, hopefully picking it up at the end of the month. it's my rw suit, so i finally get to try flying with booties! "Hang on a sec, the young'uns are throwin' beer cans at a golf cart." MB4252 TDS699 killing threads since 2001
  23. for what it's worth, i just got a new infinity, lots of black, and scotchguarded it with no problems. three light coats, about an hour or so between. i'd like to hear what the problem was..
