  2. ..and if you take a cubic cm of water, it weighs one gram, and it's also equal to a ml, so you have common ground between length, mass and volume. and the temps are also a little more sensible. 0 is freezing, 100 is boiling. that said, i was in grade 9 or 10 when the conversion started in canada, so i am 'bilingual'. temps, i can translate pretty easily, speeds i adust depending on what i'm trying to figure out. 100 km/h is about 62 mph, so distance to time is done in metric, and time to distance is imperial. . for mass i prefer pounds over kg though. building standards are still imperial (16" on center for studs etc.) it all depends on what you're used to, people, by nature, resist change. 3. i've heard of those, do they really work as advertised? "Hang on a sec, the young'uns are throwin' beer cans at a golf cart." MB4252 TDS699 killing threads since 2001
  4. mine is adjustable, don't know the range but i put it on 10 minutes. i really want a clocky. one snooze, then you have to play hide and seek. "Hang on a sec, the young'uns are throwin' beer cans at a golf cart." MB4252 TDS699 killing threads since 2001
  5. i ordered a new infinity last winter. my wife (using the instructions) measured me, but we chose the wrong spot on the hip to measure to (the 'pivot point' of the hip rather than the top of the hip bone). after getting re-measured at a gear store i saw where i went wrong. as a result, my mlw was about 2.5" too long. i sent it back and the fixed it all up for me. more great service from vse! 6. sometimes they are the ones with a clue. before they re-post something, they actually search to see if it's come up before, then add to the old thread instead of cluttering things up with a new one. then again, maybe they just need to get a life. 7. that's not a 'boogie girlfriend' application, we're talking woman-of-the-year here. go sunshine! "Hang on a sec, the young'uns are throwin' beer cans at a golf cart." MB4252 TDS699 killing threads since 2001
  8. we had a woman lose a shoe on a 4-way horny gorilla jump. according to a protrack, max speed was 198mph ! funny bit was, a neighbour found the shoe and returned it. "Hang on a sec, the young'uns are throwin' beer cans at a golf cart." MB4252 TDS699 killing threads since 2001
  9. they were probably 4 or 5 miles from the dz, couldn't really hear the music, but could hear the bass thumping. the winds were almost right for a cross country that would have taken us right over it though. the only problem was, they came on after the sun went down, so it would have been a night corss country, and between us and them were a lot of trees and a resevoir. not a good plan. they also had a no fly zone from 3000' down, and it was patrolled by mounties in a caravan (wouldn't let us jump it though) and a helecopter. bill, you have any of those pics to share? sounds like it would have been an amazing sight! 10. they played moncton saturday night. yes, the rolling stones came to moncton. crowd was about 80,000, supposed to be the biggest venue on this tour. on saturday, the concert site was the 2nd biggest city in the maritimes. i didn't go, but we did fly over the site all day. attached a pic, taken through the window at about 6000' "Hang on a sec, the young'uns are throwin' beer cans at a golf cart." 12. hmmm, maybe we are talking about two different songs here. the one i have is on a roger miller greatest hit's cd and it is 'the day i jumped from uncle harvey's plane'. lyrics: Me ¡®n' oliver ¡®n' virgil was in the drugstore killing time When my eyes fell upon this magazine And i got to reading this article on sky-diving and parachuting And it said jumping out of air-planes was the thing Now being raised down on a farm and always ready for adventure I knew that i could figure out a way I said ¡°well delmer gill's got a parachute and uncle harvey's got an air-plane¡± So i said ¡°call the boys together, today's the day¡± Well i found out too late what uncle harvey called an air-plane Was nothing but an engine and a wing And i could feel my fear a-rising as delmer packed the parachute ¡®cos he kept telling me i was doing the right thing Ron mcloughlin shook my hand as jd strapped me in the harness And tildon brought a jug and passed it around I took one look at that parachute and that whisky and that air-plane And i turned that bottle up and drank it down Well i was drunker'n cooter jones when they poured me in the plane The engine coughed and headed for the clouds But i was sober as a judge by the time they opened up the door And i've never known my heart to beat so loud I said, ¡°harvey, i can't do it¡± as he kicked me out the door And i wrapped my hands around the landing gear And i was holding on real good ¡®til harvey stepped down on my fingers And virgil said he heard me scream from way down there Well i thanked god and delmer gill when my parachute finally opened I said ¡°well, hell there ain't no use in being afraid¡± And i went crashing through the hen house, scattering chickens and breaking eggs And i kissed the ground and fainted dead away Now friends i've done some fighting, and i've been shot at once or twice And i've durn near been run over by a train But i don't think i remember being any more afraid Than the day i jumped from uncle harvey's plane sound familiar to anyone? 13. prices here in eastern canada were at about $1 per litre a month ago, jumped up to about $1.14, today it's $1.30. i use premium so it's more like $140 per litre for me. glad i get decent mileage and can walk/bike to work most of the time. not today on account of katrina putting in her appearance. 14. i think it's uncle harvey's plane by roger miller. i have it on my ipod. pm me a gmail address (or something that will accept something the size of an mp3 file) and i'll try to beam it off to you tonight. 15. What for? I didn't know. Don't care of specifics. Just curious and no problem if you don't want to share...only what's "common knowledge" I guess. i don't know what he was convicted of, or how true the stories i heard were so i won't repeat them. a search on here would probably lead you to the same stories i heard. basically, he was convicted, went to jail, got out and built sdc. 16. lots of people go to jail, most don't do much when they get out. he did. he had a dream and went with it and anyone who's been to sdc reaps the benefits. what have you done for anyone lately? 17. if i see the concert, it's from altitude! didn't know about night jumps... hope my rig gets back and assembled in time. "Hang on a sec, the young'uns are throwin' beer cans at a golf cart." MB4252 TDS699 killing threads since 2001
  18. whereabouts in maine? i've rafted with north country rivers twice, once on the penobscot in millinocket and once on the kennebec in bingham. the penobscot was way better, more rapids, much nicer scenery. 19. i think i'll be avoiding the stones concert here. a big field with 80,000 people in it doesn't sound like much fun. flying over it on jump run, on the other hand, should be good fun! "Hang on a sec, the young'uns are throwin' beer cans at a golf cart." MB4252 TDS699 killing threads since 2001
  20. check out some of dj mik's stuff. he's posted on here, some pretty cool trance mixes. at least i think that's what they are. he has 8 of them now (i think), all about an hour long. "Hang on a sec, the young'uns are throwin' beer cans at a golf cart." MB4252 TDS699 killing threads since 2001
  21. didn't roger nelson already build it? well, maybe short a wind tunnel, but not much else. "Hang on a sec, the young'uns are throwin' beer cans at a golf cart." MB4252 TDS699 killing threads since 2001

  23. introverted until i am comfortable around the group i'm with. my first time in a new place, you wouldn't even know i was there. ask anyone at perris that i didn't meet, which was basically everyone. or skydive chicago. cross keys and sne weren't too bad because i was with people from home, but sdc and perris i was by myself. i found chicago a much friendlier place than perris for a newbie. 24. ah yes, the reverse cow-girl. gotta go with that. "Hang on a sec, the young'uns are throwin' beer cans at a golf cart." MB4252 TDS699 killing threads since 2001
  25. that would be awesome on the back of a dz's waiver form! almost as good as skyventure perris (and maybe others) where the last two things you have to inital are: did you actually read everything you just initialed? no, really, did you actually read any of it? i laughed my ass off and i was told that if people don't at least snicker at it, they know they didn't read it.
