  1. "MINE are bigger than yours. So there. Nyah!" Before responding and perhaps even giving an unsolicited/anti American opinion, I really would need to see some form of comparison. I can then make an educated and probably cuturally superior judgement. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 2. "I personally thought someone would be offended at the Lord's Name In Vain - thing." Heheh, When I clicked on the title I thought I might see a rant against the Goddamned Right wing. Instead, I was heartened by your tale. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 3. I've had an IBM Thinkpad for about 4 years, its been pretty solid. I use it for work a lot so it gets chucked (literally) on and off helicopters pretty regularly and the helideck crews have little or no respect for fragility. Whatever you buy Pammi, I can heartily recommend that you chuck the soft case that will come with it, and invest in a Pelican box. see here http://www.pelican-shipping-cases.com/1490CC-computer-case.jsp;jsessionid=PPJGMFLHJDPI I weigh over 200 lbs and can happily jump up and down on mine quite enthusiastically without fear of damaging the pooter. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 4. Have you got a budget in mind for this Wayne? And how deep do you want to go into on this? Try here for starters, and loads of similar publications on sale at your local WHSmith. http://www.ephotozine.com/pp/ -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 5. Faber and Dekker, your words may be fuzzy from time to time, but your message is normally pretty clear. To me anyways. Take it as a compliment if they attack your grammar as opposed to your logic. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 6. "Yes. I have no doubt that doing so would sour our relations with the US, and that they would bring all sorts of political, ecconomic social and perhaps even military pressure to bear, but our constitution, unlike the US constitution, recognises the right to life. Truth is - I hope he never turns up here... " And which part of this procrastinates? (postpones or delays needlessly?) against the USA? If SA gave refuge to someone like Bin Laden, you can bet your bottom dollar that the US govt would do everything within its power to have him extradited. Tonto even ends his post with the statement that he hoped Bin laden never appeared in SA, I'm assuming because of the awkward situation it would place his country in. Why are you taking this as an attack on the US? -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 7. And your point is? Just about every nation that I can think of has had a shameful period in its development. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 8. Government subsidies for quality tequila? -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Thomas Jefferson
  9. "I'm interested in some input on what particular problems I might encounter." Riggerrob mentioned the acid mesh issue, which is definitely worthwhile checking out, but no rigger worth his salt would repack for you without testing. I would also watch the winds I jumped in with a round reserve, and be super careful with the spotting. Round reserves won't give you much penetration on windy days, so brace for all the hassles of landing a not so steerable round reserve off site. I'd refresh my memories of those PLFs. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 10. "I think they call that the "Sonny Bono Syndrome". " I got Yew babe? -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Thomas Jefferson
  11. "I wonder who will defend him. I wouldn't want that job." Oh dear, would you believe it, a French Lawyer is expected to defend Saddam... Brace yourselves for another bout of Anti Gallic sentiment and nonsense. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/3644431.stm To add credence to the story, the Beeb has it as well, and names Jacques Verges as the defence lawyer likely to take the case. Edit to add...From Gawin's CNN link, "It is a trial that must be open," Verges said last month. "We shall have the duty to look at the truth, but all the truth. And in this matter the links between the American government and the Iraq government are so close you cannot judge from one and the other." (my emphasis) Should prove interesting. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 12. Immediate and summary execution would probably turn many people to the cause of Al Quaeda, as would any form of justice administered by what some may see as a puppet government. A fair trial would be lengthy, complex and difficult to administer, look at the Lockerbie (remember the Pan Am 103 bombing that killed 270 people) trial of Megrahi and Fhimah, it took 14 years to resolve, and now to my disgust we are all nice and friendly with the guy who allegedly funded the thing. The Milosevic (crime- genocide, Srebrenica 1995) trial has been going for how long? I don't think people's blood lust for Saddam Hussein's demise will be satisfied in the immediate future. Besides, I'm sure he has lots of interesting things to tell us. Edit (after reading Gawin's link http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1044069#1044069 ) to add. If the handover to a coalition appointed interim administration in Iraq goes ahead at the end of June, the earliest we can expect an elected government in Iraq would be early next year. They will appoint a suitable commission to administer the trial and they will need time to be trained and the case to be prepared. Gut feeling is, we are at least 18 months away from the commencement of proceedings, and potentially years away from a conclusion, if the trial is to be seen as being fair and just. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 13. "Once they have the structure in place, I think he should be tried under Iraq's jurisdiction." I agree, but it may take some time to pull together the infrastructure to ensure a fair trial. A kangaroo court would nobody any favours, neither would a lynch mob. The last thing anyone wants to do is to turn the man into a martyr. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 14. That should read culturally. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Thomas Jefferson
  15. Of course he should be tried, but under who's jurisdiction? Milosevic is on trial at the Hague, but I'm pretty sure the US doesn't recognise this court. Anyone got any ideas how the authorities are going to approach this? -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 16. From memory, beer companies in the States urge their consumers to drink responsibly. Isn't that like a get out of jail free card to dissuade frivolous cases like this? -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 17. "Unfortunately, civil actions seem to dance all over "legal" stuff..." And common sense. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Thomas Jefferson
  18. "My container's not made of nylon." In fairness, I've seen leather Teardrops from Chris Thomas. Dunno if he still does them. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 19. "or am i completely mad?" You are crazy if you are taking any of this seriously. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Thomas Jefferson
  20. And they are not actually at the bar, they are round the corner next to the cigarette machine. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Thomas Jefferson
  21. Not me, and not a loss, but I have great video of a well known container manufacturer almost losing his sidemount during a record attempt. The helmet came off on exit, he grabs it, then flies to the base and continues the dive much to the amusement of the rest of the 8 way base. He even held onto the thing thru break off and deployment. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 22. Stefan, I've used Lowepro, and CCS bags before with snap lock belts, saves all that stitching hassle. They are pretty sturdy, and offer a little protection from the elements and rough use. http://www.ccscentre.co.uk/ http://www.lowepro.com/ Available in the UK from Jessops, or similar photo shops. http://www.jessops.com/search/intellisearch.cfm?node=307 This link is to a range of manufacturers. I've used bullet cams with a wee minidv deck so it really depends on the dimensions of your camera etc. I kept all the bits in a pouch, on a belt worn inside my jumpsuit (I'm guessing your penchant for jumping fixed objects won't need a jsuit , but tucked inside a sweatshirt etc would do equally well), and had breakaway connections going to the head mount. It makes it easier to put the whole thing on, and if there is any unexpected drama, won't hang you up on an unwanted main. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 23. "Bingo, cool photo opp" Nice one Ray, this couple are from Josh Hill during the Texas State record in 02, from a Casa, they miss the framing to give it scale and depth though.. http://www.aerialfusion.com/newstuffgallery.html -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me.
