"Unfortunatly we have pushed the envelope a little far and the lens will be unsuitable for the PC5, 9, TRV19, 22, 33 in it's current configuration because of corner clipping." Does the vignetting show up on regular TVs and monitors, or is it just apparent on screengrabs and internet type video? And can the vignetting be solved by 'nudging' in the zoom a little? -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. "Do you guys think this is going to be a complete mud slinging match over the next 6 month?" Thats exactly what we have in store, I suspect Mikkey. The strategy in most US elections is not to demonstrate the strengths of their own candidates, their policies, and their manifestos, rather to illuminate failings in the opposition. It makes great entertainment, nobody really wants a good clean fight, do they?

How do I enhance stills from video?
nacmacfeegle replied to SpinDoctor's topic in Photography and Video
Hi, I'm not sure what you mean by 'enhance' but if you search this forum for "frame grab", and "deinterlace", I'm sure you will find what you are looking for. You'll need a reasonably good photo manipulation package such as Photoshop, and some basic knowledge of its use. Good luck, post back if you get stuck. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. I'm relieved you haven't fallen under the thrall of the Smart cars that are about to be unleashed on an unsuspecting US public. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/magazine/3660685.stm -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Army Wants Howitzers Back from Ski Resorts
nacmacfeegle replied to Gawain's topic in Speakers Corner
From what I gather, the army wants these particular ones back as they are relatively modern. The others spread around for avalanche control are older model 105mm howitzers. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. "There was a reason Saddam was so successful." Which has nothing whatsoever to do with the 'us' backing him in the mid eighties during his war with Iran. Mind you, 'we' also backed the other guys, as the Iran -Contra scandal showed.. Even when he gassed the Kurds, 'we' still supported him. "A UN security council statement condemning Iraq's use of chemical weapons in the war was issued in 1986, but the US and other western governments continued supporting Baghdad militarily and politically into the closing stages of the war." source:-http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/shared/spl/hi/middle_east/03/v3_iraq_timeline/html/chemical_warfare.stm Och its all good, the newly (coalition) appointed administration are really getting things going over there. They have a new flag. Is it any wonder that the locals are reluctant to accept regime change imposed by the West? 'We' continue to support unpopular regimes, and even governments with a "15th century mentality" in this region. So I reckon the challenge might be to convince the Iraqi people that we really do have their best interests at heart. You can't do that without diplomacy, or while pointing a gun at them. New flags help as well. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Have you been surprised? (serious question)

"It's got slightly more flavor than Budweiser, but that sure ain't saying much." Are you qualified to make such statements? How long have you been drinking for? How many beers have you sampled? How current is your attendance at the bar? Do you even know the difference between Stella , Leffe, and Hooegarten? Huh, huh? answer me that! Pah, I'm done here. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Nah, it would be just like say the Turin shroud, people either believe this stuff or they don't. Me? "There is something to be learned from every skydiver." Yes, yes, my point exactly Betsy, I knew there was a good reason why I liked you. -
why dont you post your jump numbers?

"But when I say that people do rely on those things...Some people say I am full of shit. Funny huh?" Some of us will admit that they play an important role in our altitude management. -
If your worried about Dytter dependency, get two of them, and experience a symphony of beeps at hard deck. Seriously, relying on any one from two to work is better than relying on one from one. The backup could be a cheap (say original model dytter) audible. I'm guilty of dytter dependency, but at least I know it. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Everyone is entitled to their opinions Dave, personally speaking, I'll take advice wherever I can get it. -
"even gps can't give you your forward airspeed, only your groundspeed." "How many more requirements could they put in?" Formalised wing loading limits and downsize progression similar to the Dutch system? "Anyone know what the coating on cutaway cables really are? is it plastic? What kind?" As far as I am aware, different gear manufacturers use different materials. see here. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=113117#113117 for a post from resident gear guru Bill Booth. Or search for "Teflon", and "Lolon".

50% more altitude, nope, its better than that if you think about air time.... 7,000 ft of freefall vs 12,000 ft of freefall. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Nope, it covers all of them. Offshore ID cards, BPA paperwork, store cards, even video cards. As I spend a lot of time travelling on business, there's not much point keeping stuff in my glovebox, which may be on a different continent to the one in which I may be stranded. They have a list of the stuff they have records for, and I update that list every 6 months or whenever I get new stuff. It works for me, your system works for you, its all good. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. "Use this copy to be able to instantly know whom you have to call if your wallet is ever stolen or lost." I have a 'sentinel' service on all my cards, one phone call and they are all cancelled, they also keep stuff for me like a copy of my passport, birth cert etc, and sort the whole thing out if it all goes pear shaped. I'm pretty sure there's setups like that in the US. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Great music for napalming beaches, but not apparently for driving.....The RAC (Royal Automobile Club) recently advised that it is one of the most dangerous pices of music to listen to while driving. "Britain's RAC Foundation for Motoring on Wednesday named the strident classical piece the No. 1 tune not to play while driving, based on research it says shows loud music can cause accidents." Savages! Its glass cleaner Fudd, I'd say its probably not a silicon based lubricant. Why take the chance of something wierdy woo happening to the teflon coating, or 3 ring loops, just to save a few Kroner? "Anybody know if this is a good product to use on cutaway cables?" Good products are those tried and tested by others..... Contact the manufacturer, and request an MSDS for the product, there's a link on their website for this. http://www.chemsearch.com/viewArticle.asp?article_id=338&country=USA&countryName=United%20States&language_id=4&language=English The MSDS will more than likely give a chemical make up of the compound, and things like its affect on skin etc, and any special hazards associated with the product. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Yeah, I agree the side benefits are marginal, Jamile. By the way, I don't really see the point in putting DNA data on an identity card. A finger print or retina scan are surely easier to check with mobile equipment. I think I heard plans to put people's faces on credit cards, a nice quick and easy way to check the user's authenticity. The police currently have sufficient powers to require someone to formally identify themselves, this card just gives people a common means to do this. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me.
