"It is also in widespread use in sailing where there is plenty of UV and stress and strain" You need to compare apples with apples...the line construction for sailing and climping ropes is a completely different weave construction known as kernmantle. The fibres in the kernel of the rope provide about 80% of the strength, then there is a woven sheath,or mantle on the outside to protect it. This design makes a very resilient rope. Engovatov suggested manufacturing suspension lines like this earlier on in the thread....I think it would work if the technology could be mastered to keep the lines thin.... "but if a line breaks while your sailing...BFD" true if you are pootling about at the weekend regatta......OTO..... If you are solo somewhere in the southern ocean, and you lose your mast because of it, you will probably die..... .....But point taken..... 7 vs. 9 cell and wingloading for video
nacmacfeegle replied to Deuce's topic in Photography and Video
Yup to what phree said, if you are jumping camera, and its heavy, try something slow opening, like a Spectre, or Stilletto, the latter being the most common I've seen regular (ie full time camera peeps jumping). But its all about what you jump. Me?, I don't jump a particularly heavy setup, and use a spectre loaded at about 1.6 "I might bend my hat in the process, but I'd still teach that guy a lesson or two" David Lund...... -
"Young, old, filthy rich, dirt poor, geeky, hippy and yuppy. I don't give a shit what a person is wearing or jumping, so long as they can skydive. It's the skill set and the attitude that count" Chuck, I don't even care whether they can skydive like a god, or if they are just starting out, its that word 'attitude' that works for me...... Big Eric says hi....

"Can anyone guess the most productive?" Ummmm... Christmas? 4th July? Thanksgiving?

Hey AggieD, I think a Stilletto 190 would do you just dandy, but a smaller eliptical say 170 might get you hurt....... You know I've seen how you play, so I'm not posting this blind and saying no just for the sake of it....BTW I have a friend back in Scotland who is about our size, and he has loads of fun on his stilletto 190, he broke his back over in Florida, and can now only jump his 190 due to soft opening issues.....He's about the same size as us as well.... What would you do for a Klondike bar? Whatever you would you like me to do.... How many licks does it take to get to the middle of a tootsie pop? Just one, looooong and slow lick... What would Jesus do? Post on wreckdot And the most important question of all - What are you wearing? I'm currently wearing out my patience waiting for the boards to come back up. Tanacious lot, aren't we?

Hey Wonko..... In pushing limits, I find it easier to set myself goals. If for example, you want to achieve long cool swoops as a goal, I find it easier to break the goal down into a series of steps or objectives, and formulate a plan to achieve that goal....so a plan for this might look like this..... Objectives.. 1-master into wind canopy landings on straight in approaches, without riser input. 2-master cross and down wind landings. 3- master into wind canopy landings on straight in approaches, with riser input. 4- Master carving riser approaches. etc etc etc.... you see the point? set a series of objectives that will lead you to your ultimate goal......Baby steps are good, and having a plan allows you to monitor your progress, and change the plan if necessary, this also allows the introduction of more formal approaches, such as canopy school, or coaching.....In my experience outwith skydiving, its not a good idea to teach don'ts, I always tried to teach 'dos'...But I don't teach in skydiving. NB the above is not a treatise on HP canopy landings, just an example of how one could carefully push the limits..... Hey, good luck in achieving your objectives, goals, and thus eventually pushing your personal limits. There is nothing more satisfying than mastering new skills and having fun along the way.
