3. Indeed. Looks quite different with the framework covered up Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live
4. Don't think it's a Bell and a bit dark but a quick search turned up this
5. I have an electronic version of this documents available on my website: Supplement 1-12-01 Can we get this added to the document archive? Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live
6. Could be true. From http://filmforce.ign.com/articles/410/410088p1.html ***Q: Lloyd showed us the skydive sequence. Now what were you thinking about doing that scene? Did you actually get to go up to the top of the building under construction? JOLIE: Uh huh! Yeah, I think everybody's got their things that make them uncomfortable ... I happen to be personally very happy when I'm dealing with heights. Which is fortunate for this. So I loved it. I thought I was lucky that I got to get [up there]. (She motions with her hands as if to exemplify being close to the edge of the building's edge.) There were a lot of issues about me going too close to the edge and all that. Q: Have you ever skydived apart from working on a film? JOLIE: Yes. Pretty amazing. Q: Did you want to do that base-jumping yourself? JOLIE: (She laughs.) Yes. Q: Had you brought it up that you'd like to do it? JOLIE: I'd just like to do it. But ... certain aspects of that are a real skill, and there's permits and everything. So, part of a dive I might be able to do, in a different way outside of getting in the air one way or the other. Q: What did they say when you asked them to do it? JOLIE: I think they expected that of me. And they just said, "Can we talk about it later, please?" And, "Can we just, um, get off the building!" (She laughs.) Also found a quote from Jonny Lee Miller (one of Angelina's ex's) but he doesn't sound a very experienced jumper :-P Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live
7. Old news, yes, but the article isn't, which is far from accurate!
8. Recommendations rather than regs: USPA SIM Section 6-9 Wingsuit Recommendations You may get a feeling of déja-vu...
9. It's funny you should say that Gus, but the BPA have just issued some guidelines (i.e. not rules, but recommendations for CCIs and new jumpers): Form 235 - Guidelines for jumping a wingsuit (fixed) Section 2 (Qualifications and Prepartion) c. says:
10. Also... Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live
11. Patrick de Gayardon jumped from 12,700m (41,700 ft) without oxygen (disconnected from supply just prior to exit) but this is an exception rather than the norm!
12. Many thanks to Nic Desmontes for supplying the magazine! He assures me that his interest in the magazine is purely for the falconry (apart from the Skydiving/BASE!)
13. Stephen's parents visited Hibaldstow yesterday. No further information but it's good this story is being kept to the forefront in an effort to bring it to a conclusion. Is this the best place for this? Doesn't really help the incidents forum. This forum is too general. Is there a discussion about it in the General Skydiving Forum? 14. I consider myself a person who likes to give back to the sport, helping people out with their pack job if they are struggling or giving what little advice I have to offer, for example. However, my attitude has changed a little when it comes to being a BMI. As well as my slot, I also charge £15 (~ $25). BirdMan are quite keen for their instructors to charge, the idea being that if someone is paying, they are likely to take it more seriously as it's coming out of their pockets! It also covers the suit hire. As we all know, these things aren't cheap and, sadly, people tend not to look after things as well if they don't belong to them; the suits will need repair and replacement. Also, as with any paid for service on the DZ, my DZO wants a small cut too. I also offer a ProTrack loan, download and internet availability of the results as well as my time. I think this is all very reasonable; I'm not doing it for free, but it's certainly not for profit either. Please feel free to tell me if you think otherwise?! Having said that, I'm a tandem whore now so all of my values are screwed :-S
15. Anyone in France care to scan and post the Leo Dickinson/wingsuit/falcons article in the July 2003 issue (#238) of NewLook? (Not Safe For Work!)
16. Regan, you trying to access it through a web browser or a newsreader (i.e. Outlook Express)? For a web browser user Google Groups. For a newsreader, who are you dialling up with? Do they provide a newsserver? i.e. news.btinternet.com. Alternatively use news.cis.dfe.de but you'll need to get an eaccount from news.cis.dfn.de first (for free).
17. I thought the zip file was corrupt but I think it's a non-Windows format. I was able to uncompress it with WinRAR after removing the .zip extension. The 17.2 Kb file expanded to 3.44 MB! No either that's some pretty impressive compression or a very inefficient file format!
18. Have a look at the Mushroom/Eiger pics in the Swiss Earth Gallery on BLINC Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live
19. Just received mine in the Uk yesterday, but unfortunately I haven't had a chance to watch it yet! Where is this show? I'm London based and would be interested in coming along...
20. Sorry to disagree with you Paul, but you're slightly wrong. The ProTrack doesn't know about Temperature, it assumes it. From Chapter 43 of the manual, ICAO Exit Temperature, it states, So TAS is adjusted for standard conditions and SAS is an adjustment on that, as you correctly stated! If you want to be accurate you need to look at and remember the external temperature before exit and adjust it in JumpTrack accordingly.
21. ~ 180 hours? i.e. 7.5 days! Down from about 6 hours at 500 kb/s! Did I get the decimal point right? Let me know when it's done and I'll change over the IP. I'm going to be out of the country from Thursday until Monday though and likely without any net access.
22. From swooping.co.uk: No surnames listed so my guesses are in brackets. Can anyone fill in any gaps?
23. I learnt something quite surprising from the Kit News section of the British Parachute Association's journal, Skydive the Mag. It said that Matter and Loic (through Salomon) are producing suits separately, after Parasport Italia's failure to produce them! Don't have the mag to hand, but I will post more details later, unless someone else does.
