  1. I was concerned by it being underwritten by AXA. Just tried with them and was told BASE jumping wasn't covered due to it "being illegal" and "no one would cover it". So Gus, check your paper-work when you receive it. If it does state BASE jumping then you've been lucky, although I wonder if the cooling off period works both ways i.e. for the issuer also. If not, you may be sending your policy back. Sorry if this has spoilt it for anyone... Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live
  2. Quade already mentioned this in a previous thread. This was actually a programme on BBC1 last night and I just about managed to catch the skydiving bit. I'll try and get it onto SkydivingMovies.com Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live

    Smoking Pants?

Hey Skin, No credit due here, I just shot some video. The Smoking Man is the deserving one. But yes, you are free to use the screen grabs as you please if Atle doesn't mind. Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live

    Skyvan exits

Way-hey! Gus finally pulls his finger out! :-P I got 200 k/s downloading from lycos but I've also uploaded to SkydivingMovies.com Nice!
  5. Is he a CRW jumper? Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live
  6. Until Gus pulls his finger out, this is my effort. I can't say I believe I got above the plane since Tony the pilot starts descending as soon as we get out, but I think I at least got on a level with where it was when I got out. The "kick" is apparent in the video and appears to be an acceleration whereas the descending aircraft is gradual. Andy and Gus have some much more obvious video so get it posted boys! I have to say that usually my Skyvan exits are crap, but the higher speed actually makes it easier. It was a lot more natural and found myself instintively riding it. Tash, it was a pleasure but I'm sorry I spent some of your coaching time playing with the aircraft! Between the tandems and the coaching, it's a shame I only discovered the joy of high speed tailgate exits on what was pratically the last Skyvan load for me of the boogie before it left. I'm looking forward to the Herc Boogie next year! Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live
  7. I have no idea. I'm not a lawyer and I don't play one on TV but UK law is split into Civil and Criminal. From http://www.consumereducation.org.uk/laws/english/legalrights/04.htm As far as I know, trespass is a Civil offence, but breaking and entering or damage when accessing an object is Criminal. Endangerment or Nusiance are Criminal too but could be more difficult to prove. Some objects, such as Spans have by-laws which makes it a criminal offence to access them without permission. Smoking Pants?

I believe so. In fact, both of the jumpers opening up behind were wearing them. Although I think they had only just received them so they hadn't done many jumps on them. Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live

    Smoking Pants?

2 Shows a close up of some last minute modifications to the pants 3 Shows the man making the alterations 4 is a launch where you can see the elasticated legs around the shoes 5 is a zoomed in shot of the pants inflating only a second or two after exit 6 is a shot of the three way opening up. The other two are world class BASE jumpers themselves I think the man belted them at the top too? Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live
  10. Is it the PDF or the HTML? Only the PDF is valuable since the HTML is a lot easier to change. I'll have the PDF if you have it.

  13. I'd be inclined to agree with you Gus. Although it's lax (at best) and sneaky (at worst) of them to change their official T's & C's but not reflect them on their website, I guess the onus is on the customer to check the small print on the paper work they receive. Inaccurate websites can not be relied upon; just look at all the stories of ridiculously mispriced electronic items "sold" on websites that weren't honoured What we need is the previous Travel Insurance Policy Booklet. The current one has a code in the front page: APLD017/P (06/03) (2320). I don't know if I'm reading too much into that but it makes me think that this version was issued in June 2003. Does anyone have a copy of the previous version in which it said, rather than generally excluding it in item 8. I'm not a policy holder with AXA (still stuck with HB), so I can't really fight this, but I am VERY interested. Please, whoever has a policy with them but has been excluded, please don't let them get away with it!
  14. I emailed Alistair and he said he's swamped at the moment and Chris has the exact results so the website isn't getting updated for a while but top 3 were: 1st Chris Lynch 2nd Tim Carter 3rd Chris Guntrip

  16. Dave, L&B have been clever and prepared for "user error"! Check out page 43 of the ProTrack manual which "enables the user to Program the Pro-Track to the present altitude (if it was switched off during the climb".

  18. I heard this too. I heard it was a student. I guess we won't hear anything concrete about it until the Inquiry's results are published in the ratified STC minutes in several months time (unless there is an inquest which is publicised). 20. Steve, Can you confirm whether or not it is the L&B Niels (which is quite a common Danish name, as I understand) with the wrist to ankle suit. There seems to be an impression on this forum that it is (although I'm not saying you are implying it) which I'm not so sure about. This is a picture of Niels from L&B Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live
  21. I saw the video of this on my course 2 months ago. It was the BPA's copy but I think it's unlikely they'd let anyone have one? Do the course again and you'll get to see it :-S I'm pretty sure this fatality is the one listed as #18 on the Worldwide Tandem Parachuting Fatalities : There are more details on page 105 on the Tandem Vector Manual where it is listed as #16: From what I remember, the tandem student was not attached in the plane (Porter) as the "instructor" was dispatching students. When she was attached, it was done fairly slackly. Neither of the pair were wearing goggles either. Subsequently, the student's position was not particularly conducive. The "instructor" was an experienced jumper (~500 jumps?) who had bought a rig (Atom?) despite being neither trained nor rated. He'd already done a couple of tandems that day and had more signed up. The student was the Mayor's daughter and a local beauty queen, and it may also have been taking place at some sort of air-show, which is why the ground footage of the pair going in and the following debacle was broadcast on live television :-o. The handling of the scene and victims by the so-called "authorities" is a lesson in incident maganement in itself. BSBD Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live
  22. For some reason, the thread isn't being bumped to the top of the forum. This is the post.
  23. I've added a couple of posts to this thread but it isn't being bumped up to the top of the forum?
  24. I added to this thread but it didn't bump it to the top of the forum so trying again.
