Tandem Instructor Poll: Removal Of Student Seatbelt
cpoxon replied to slotperfect's topic in Instructors
Nor me Chuck, and I didn't say that :-) All four points of attachment are connected but the laterals are at full extension for comfort, and they are tightened prior to exit. Like Dave exiting with only one attachment point in an emergency, if we really needed to get out and the altitude allowed, we could, but it wouldn't be pretty. All of my tandems have been from Caravans (sit on the floor with student in front of you between legs), Skyvan (no seats so on the floor like the Caravan), TurboLets (large plane with more space than allowable jumpers so plenty of room and either sitting on the floor like the Caravan or on a wide bench with one leg up and one on the floor with the student between your legs like with the Caravan or Skyvan), G92 [Dornier 28 with super engines] (on a bench which can be straddled with both legs on the floor with student sitting in between your legs, and I think I did one of the floor there too). Never done a tandem out of anything smaller. Guess I'm spoiled. Isn't that the other thread? ;-) By the way, I have 91 tandems. Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live -
Tandem Instructor Poll: Removal Of Student Seatbelt
cpoxon replied to slotperfect's topic in Instructors
Are you asking this because the student isn't attached to you for a large proportion of the flight to altitude? In the UK, seat-belts aren't required (although some planes have them and I use them when I can), but students are hooked up and remain connected to the instructor as soon as they get on board (once the engine(s) has started correctly), and for the whole of the flight. Is it the 'gauntlets' of the gloves that are causing problems? i.e with winter gloves, the elacticated woollen part that extends from the cuff? If so, can you turn them over onto your hands (being carefull not to obscure your altimeter and not to affect your grip on anything) so that the cuff of the wingsuit is touching the cuff of the glove but there is no bulk within the suit arm? There are usually two sub-directories on the memory-stick, one for jpegs and one for mpegs. Are you sure you have it in the right one? Is there an index file in the directory (something like .db? or .th for thumbnails)? Perhaps you have to delete that to get the camera to refresh? The last one registered on BASENumbers.org was in the 860's but that was late last year so there must be a few more by now. Let me know if you know different. Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live

You would also need to route and mount a CamEye Sport to control the camera as well as the bullet cam. Well, maybe a little ;-) Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live

Thought about this too and thought the only place would be on the front of the student, but that leaves a lot of messy cable routing. A tandem instructor/examiner at my dropzone sometimes fits a belly mounted bag with streamers in (like the ones used at the Royal Sky celebrations in Thailand) to the student to trail when under canopy. Also, Caroline Hughes suffered a fracture and 30% compression of the L1 vertebra during a hard landing inside Sanam Luang. She's home now, doing ok, and should be fine in 6 weeks. I'll tell her of this thread and she is online now so may chime in later. There was a German guy (sorry, forget his name) and a Thai guy in the room across from Kathy, Val and Caroline at the hospital. Also heard a French guy was injured and repatriated very quickly after the demo? Although not sure about that one. Edit: Wishing everyone a speedy recovery! Not sure if anyone has actually bought one yet, it's that new, just test-jumped, so unlikely there are any real reviews but in case anyonemissed it Morpheus have updated their website with info about the wsX-treme Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live

Thailand update #11 (the big one)
cpoxon replied to billvon's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Indeed but can everyone also please spare a thought for those members of the team who weren't on the jump for reasons such as injury or whatever... Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live -
Held for 7 seconds according to Andreas' page. Looks like they didn't try for the bigger one. He apologises for the lack of images and details but the party awaited (I guess that's why Bill Von hasn't posted or the World Team website hasn't been updated) and says he will tell more tomorrow...if his hangover isn't too bad! eBay? I don't think there is anything specific about a PC1 remote. Unless they have the VTR2/4 switch on them, as the advert says, they are generally compatible. Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live

Ray uses this method and was doing so in KL. He had a line-over that cleared without him even knowing that was caught on video by Annie (one of 3 that day).

Removing Sure Grip Carry Handle from a PC330
cpoxon replied to cpoxon's topic in Photography and Video
Sony recommended contacting an authorised repair center to do it! But you were right, it was accessible from inside. I was wary about taking the cover off as it looked like a lot of intricate screws, but as it was it only required the removal of 2 screws from directly behind the handle (thanks Pete!). DSC00001 is the camera with the handle removed DSC00002 is a close-up on where the handle attaches on the outside DSC00004 shows inside the tray and the back of the cover where the screws were removed DSC00007 shows the handle removed with the 2 screws back in place in the handle Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live -

Wingtips vs. Scott Miller Essential Skills
cpoxon replied to SpinDoctor's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I attended one of the first iterations of the Wingtips course with Chris in 2002. It was actually split into two, a basic course one day and then a more swoop orientated course the next. You needed to attend the first to take part in the second, unless you were known to Chris. Having said that, I'm sure he would accept attendance of an equivalent basic course. His course has evolved since I took it though so you'd probably be better off contacting the man himself. His new email address is gottaflychris (at) aol (dot) com Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live -
Some pictures taken from a Popular Science tv programme here in the UK about the project. The link to the video doesn't work. It was on Skydivingmovies.com but I think that's down at the moment. Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live

Looking for picture of Christoph Aarns and early wingsuit
cpoxon replied to cpoxon's topic in Wing Suit Flying
I'm sure the picture of Christoph Aarns in his early wingsuit which, if I remember correctly, he said he was testing in Eloy/Arizona, some time in the 1980s, was posted here as an attachment but I can't find it. Can anyone help? Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live -
Removing Sure Grip Carry Handle from a PC330
cpoxon replied to cpoxon's topic in Photography and Video
I treated myself to a new camera on a recent trip, a DCR-PC330. I haven't had the opportunity to jump it yet and I need to remove the flip down handle from the side so I can fit it into my helmet (since it is the exact same size (minus some annoying bulges) as my PC110). On the PC110, the handle just screwed off and the excess could be tucked away without cutting it from the casing. However, with the PC330 it doesn't appear that you can unscrew it, it's a smooth cap, and it doesn't seem to be a false one that can be removed to reveal a screw underneath, as far as I can tell. I'm worried I'll need to unscrew the exterior panel to be able to remove it which would be a pain (although at least the MemoryStick isn't located in it anymore like the PC110 - I think that's the annoying bulge). Anybody had any experience of removing the handle? Why would Sony want to prevent you from removing it? Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live
