UK advert for PVR system features Wingsuit Mushroom jump
cpoxon replied to cpoxon's topic in Wing Suit Flying
Sky is the major satellite broadcasting company in the UK. They also have a PVR system called Sky+. They are currently airing an advert for the system featuring a Wingsuit BASE jump from the Mushroom. You can download the video from skydivingmovies.com Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live -
Interesting. I didn't know about net.rec.skydive. Thanks Nick. Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live

From Markus Herzig's Pilatus Porter History page. See attached interesting photo of Bruno Gouvy exiting the Turbo Mingo over Chambrey, I believe, wearing a weighted nosecone on his way to a top maximum speed of 335 mph! Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live

Nick, where did you 'find' this post? Any others available? I'm wondering if they could be incorporated into www.recskydiving.org? From what Al said, I guess my comment on the front page, "The origins of rec.skydiving are lost in the history of time." is not exactly true! He certainly is. When he arches his back too he can outfly most people on the front! A couple more illustrations 1 2 Would like to get a really good side shot of it! Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live

Hi Sparky, No I don't. The majority of the information (from the late 90s and early 00s at least) was collected via internet reporting, as Tom mentioned, by Barry Brummit. THE IPC/FAI information would certainly make a good tally though and I'll be looking into it. SOme kinds souls have translated and forwarded official reports from their parachuting organisations (notably Germany and Finland (although I believe the Finnish reporting is no more)) which have been included. I also have a stack of back issues of Parachutist, Skydiving, and Sports Parachutist that I am working my way through trying to collate more historical information and also fill in any gaps. WARP stands for World-wide Approved Relative-work Progression which is a basic form of FS training. As far as I'm aware, the WARP manual can only be purchased from the BPA. You could try emailing them skydive@bpa.org.uk although since they sell it and it isn't available for download on the website, I don't think you'll have much luck. Tandem Instructors: What do you write on student's certificates?

So the emphasis is on the quality of the paper rather than the TI's input? ;-P Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live -

Tandem Instructors: What do you write on student's certificates?
cpoxon replied to cpoxon's topic in Instructors
At my home dropzone it is common practice for the tandem instructor to at least write their name on their student's certificate and their certificate number (we don't have Licenses in the UK). The student's name and the date is usually already printed on the certificate, if not I'll write it in the space provided myself. I also like to put Protrack information down there; exit altitude, time in freefall, average speed. If they haven't had video I'll add a bit of plane-spotter information such as the make, model and designation of the aircraft we just jumped out of. I always write a personal comment such as well done, or excellent, or something pertinant such as "Happy Birthday". I love to do this as I feel it really personalises it, but I wonder if some people thinks it is messy and ruins a nicely printed certificate?! Some of the instructors at my dropzone put the minimum signature down usually because they are rushing to pack for the next load or I guess it gets a bit much after x thousand certificates! Even though it can be a rush, I'll always take the time to write it, explain what I've written and also what else is included in the pack (the BPA's excellent Starter Mag - explaining what skydiving is as a sport and how to get into it, as well as discount vouchers and souvenir information), even if I'm in a rush, but then I've only done just over 150 tandems in my first year. I never pre-sign a certificate before the jump as some of the instructors do; I'm not normally superstitious, but in this case I am! At another dropzone I've occasionally worked at, the students collect their certificates from manifest and not the instructor, and it's not common practice for it to be signed by the instructor. I'll get the student to come and find me so I can sign it. You never know, they may come back and it will count towards their log. Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live -
Yes, I know, I've got one! I've never used them. I bought the container second hand and they were already fitted. Thinking about it, how would they be used? Is there any lateral connection? I remember when I started out on static-line rounds with front and back kit 1 2 the belly mount clipped laterally to rings on the harness very similar to how a tandem student harness is laterally attached to the instructors container. When a reserve is clipped on to a BASE rig, is it secured laterally? Some sort of strap? Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live
-
Eh? Well it would have to be modified with "tertiary" rings, to attach the belly mount to. Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live

From Section 6 (Equipment) Para 1 (Parachutes - General) of the BPA Operations Manual So I guess it comes down to whether the manufacturers are recognised or not? I like the idea though, putting a belly wart on the front of Gus might be the only way I can keep up with him on his new S3! Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live
