Hey Phil, how's it going? Long time, no see! Just got back from Perris where Eliana and Neal from Airspeed had been flown from Eloy in the King Air with their Tunnel Campers to run the camp in the Perris tunnel since the Eloy one still isn't finished. I think the Eloy tunnel has had some very specific construction issues which may not affect the UK one. I don't think they will make the mistake of announcing a date which they are not absolutely sure about Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live
  3. He didn't pull both. He'd switched between a rig that only had one drogue release and one that had two. The rig was a Vector that had a Paratec style mod with the secondary release on the cutaway pad. It caused a bit of a kerfuffle in the BPA with some debate as to whether instructors should familiarise themselves with differing kit in a hanging harness when switching equipment or to avoid it altogether. 4. Well, you saw me, although I didn't actually fly my wingsuit there! Also, didn't you see JP? And there was Greeny who got 30 plus seconds on a cloud base hop and pop. And there was Gabriel from Mexico who was swooping with Jim Slaton, and I think he might have put his first jump on his V1. Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live
  5. I know of a Tandem Instructor who discovered a step through on his reserve after the packer passed both the primary and secondary drogue release cables through both ends of the closing loop... :-o Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live

  7. Thanks Paul! The formation is so huge, I can barely make myself out! I guess I'll just have to order a larger print :-D By the way, it was a pleasure to finally meet you! Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live

  13. Hey Val, you rock too! Normally I hate reading touchy-feely "personal messages" in the forums but everyone needs to know how cool Val is, if they don't already, so I'm making an exception! Just arrived home and I am knackered but trying to stay awake to realign my sleep cycle. I had an awesome time in Perris. I learnt a huge amount on the big-way camp and the 100-ways and I got to meet a lot of awesome people too! Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live
  14. We dropped to 103 people today but we held the formation for over 9 seconds on the second dive. We dirt dived the val is the best . i had to sleep next to her. second point (really cool concentric rings), and went up and did the dive. One of the lines had a break but we transitioned to the second point. It wasn't quite complete, but it was incredibly cool to achieve what we did. Then we did it again, and again it was very close but a couple of people were out. The next dive had a couple of minor funnels and then on the last dive, the base funnelled and that was a very funny jump, so no fully completed 2 point 100+ way for us yet. We have 3 more jumps tomorrow. Hopefully doing the 2 points on the first jump in the morning and then on to something really funky that Tony has dreamed up for us. Now we are in the bomb shelter having a 70s polyester party (not much polyster but lots of 70s tunes)....... Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live
  15. We completed a 104-way today (6th jump today, 11th in total). Interesting formation with six rooms (BillVon is in one of them). Jumped from 1 Skyvan and 4 Otters from 16,500 feet (18,000 MSL). We're going to do it again in the morning before going sequential! Very cool.... Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live

  17. Here, here. I had an awesome time too and learnt lots. Just a shame about the weather! Even though I only did 8 jumps, I was challenged in each one, from the base, to the middle, to the edge of the formation. The dropzone were outstanding, doing everything they could to get everyone in the air when the weather co-operated; big thanks to them. Also, thanks to the organisers - I learnt loads and highly recommend attending. Thanks also to the other participants for a great vibe and great jumps. So did Larry's group! :-P "I'm here because I want to get on Jump For The Cause!" (said by someone with a Y chromosome) Very cool to finally meet you Bill! 18. http://www.skydivingmovies.com/ver2/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=2265 Check out UncleCharlie flying the Prodigy from Phoenix-Fly at the 1000 foot E by the water in Italy. 19. I jumped my S3 with my new 1.7:1 loaded Crossfire2 for the pre-second time this weekend. I have 30 jumps on this canopy and 185 wingsuit jumps. Having had a very interesting opening on a more lightly loaded elliptical canopy, I had concerns about my deployment. I pulled at 4,000 feet to give myself extra time. On deployment I collapse my wings to create a more vertical descent and ensure that my legs remain tightly shut through deployment as I unzip my wings. Apart from body position, I believe that the leg wing staying open and catching air is one of the biggest reasons for assymetry. My container is an unmodifed Voodoo v2, with a standard length bridle with a 30" ZP pilot chute in the BOC . So although equipment configuration can be a factor, I think technique is more important. 20. Hey Guys, See this thread! I'm coming to Perris for the big way camp next week and I'm looking for a ride from LAX to Perris on the afternoon of the 4th of May. Anyone else arriving at the same time who can give me a lift? Or does anyone want to share a shuttle or a hire car? Please let me know... 21. I'm going to the upcoming Big Way Camp at Perris. I'm arriving at LAX at 13:05 on the 4th of May. Is anyone arriving on the same day who could give me a lift to the dropzone? Please PM me if you can Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live
  22. Hey John, Very cool. By the way, there are a couple of broken links for 1967. And you might want to consider using thumbnails to link to the bigger picture so that your index pages load a but faster. There are a lot of cool pictures on there. Anyone know if this ever built? 23. True. However, I believe it is only an initial advantage during the early acceleration. Later on in the dive, larger people with larger surface area create more drag so the slighter people have more advantage here. Mike Brooke is not a heavy person, and neither is Stan and yet they do very well. When I used to compete, I always used to say that my weight made up for my lack of skill (I weighed 210 lb /95 kg). I'd like to see what I can achieve now that I have lost 42 lb (19 kg) and gained (a little more) skill. From what I hear, Luigi is intending to compete and if he does, he will have to stick to the rules, which means no weight. As to "World Records", who is to say what is official or not and which rules apply? Bruno Gouvy used a weighted nosecone when he achieved his record of 335 mph. 24. From http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1596913#1596913 So, a 145 pound guy plus 75lbs of lead (or more) and say 10lb of (small) gear (probably an underestimate) equals 230 lbs under a 79 square foot canopy equals a wing loading of 2.91:1. He really doesn't want a premature! Or a reserve ride! Any idea what size reserve he has in that setup? Any idead if he can jettison the weight? Speed skydiving is pretty risky at the best of times; why multiply that with small canopies and extra weight? Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live
  25. Are you saying that being small is a disadvantage? Actually, come to think about it, can 90 lbs be right? How do you physically wear that much weight? That's nearly 6.5 stone. Most weight belts are about 12 lbs? So that's the equivalent of 7.5 weight belts! It must be quite arduous just walking around with that much extra weight on, let alone landing. I wonder what size canopy he jumps with that much weight? Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live
