Heads Up Displays To Debut During World Skydiving Record Attempts
cpoxon replied to cpoxon's topic in Gear and Rigging
From http://www.prweb.com/releases/2005/12/prweb322301.htm ***Athletes competing in a rare and massive record freefall attempt will use Heads Up technology from SportVue. (PRWEB) December 15, 2005 -- The world’s top skydiving athletes will use SportVueTM Heads Up technology when they take part in a rare and massive skydiving record attempt in Thailand, January 24 – February 6, 2006. The jumpers will wear Alti-2’s much-anticipated Altimaster Titan, incorporating SportVueTM Heads Up technology, as they attempt to set a the record for the world’s largest freefall. 400 skydivers linked together will jump from thousands of feet above Udon Thani, Thailand , at the Royal Sky Celebration. Key jumpers will use Titan to show freefall speed of the formation. The event will also mark the launch of the Altimaster Titan with SportVueTM skydiving system; Alti-2 will be taking orders at the event. The new product will be a pairing of the popular Altimaster data systems for skydivers and Motion Research Corporation's patented SportVueTM Heads Up display. The system gives skydivers a view of their altitude, speed, and other critical information in a helmet-mounted personal display focused at infinity. Alti-2 is a leading altimeter manufacturer for skydiving, based in Florida. SportVueTM is a trademark of Motion Research Corporation, an information display and monitoring solutions provider for various applications such as sports and industrial applications. MRC is currently developing products based upon its patented technologies: a Heads Up Display (HUD) and the Autonomous Personal Data Recorder and Transmitter (APDRT) system. MRC offers its HUD product - SportVueTM MC1 and MC2 for motorcycles at www.sportvue.com, and also seeks value added resellers and OEM’s for other applications. Ich denke nicht so I'd do a lot of things to get on a big-way but turning German is taking it a bit far! :-P Seriously though, that is interesting. I guess this would be a German record, beating the one set in Dubai? Spooky, Darren and I were just talking last night about the logistics of organising a British record and the aircraft availability. interesting, that Eloy have made it viable enough for the Germans to decamp to there. would be interested to know how many jumps are intended and what the cost per person is? Are there 149 other suitably qualified Brits out there who fancy back-to-backing the Germans? :-D I nominate Andy Scott to key the second point! :-P The Dubai event where the Germans achieved their record was supposed to be a tri-nation event but there wasn't enough interest from the Brits or the Swedes(?) to do that and the Germans went ahead and set their NAtional record on their own. Go Vertical coming to the UK - Langar, June 2006
cpoxon replied to cpoxon's topic in Events & Places to Jump
According to the BPS newsletter that went out over the weekend, Jan and his Beech 99 will be returning to Langar, after the success of the Miss Behavious boogie and Milko's bigways, for the first Go Vertical to be held in the UK, at the "start of June". Will post more details when I get them! Awesome! Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live -
Noticed this event in the calendar but couldn't find anymore information here or on the Skydive Arizona website. Does anyone have anymore details? It's listed under "training camps" so is it aimed at people who haven't been this big before? Mind you, 150 ways aren't very common so they could all be considered training. There seems to be a market for this; 100+ ways are becoming more common these days but there is nothing between those and the World Records. Mind you, it could be argued that the same skills apply and there isn't a great deal of difference. Perhaps it's a sequential event but then that would be a record and it would say. I guess the Airspeed guys are organising? Anyone? Betsy? Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live

Russell, is this with the intention of using it on tandems? Having jumped it, do you still intend to do so? Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live

Who the fuck voted no? In the light of such an overwhelming poll I feel you should explain yourself or have your vote negated. Rob, we are so far away from the threshold of too many books (any books in fact) - crack on! Not to mention Nick's book too. This history is so precious to us...share it around some more :-) Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live

Found this picture, from the recent event, during a random search the other day. They seem to be taking this a lot more seriously than when I was there for the 2003/2004 event. Mind you, that was a different event organised by Skyventure, although I think Aziz was also involved. It would be very hard to accidentally fall over the edge of the KL; not only is the edge quite raised but there was also an inner ring (some sort of conduit if I remember correctly - you can just see the camera bag resting on it in the picture) that needed to be climbed over before one got to the edge! Since you couldn't fall over unintentionally, if you did intend to do it on purpose, a harness that one could unclip isn't going to be much of a barrier! :-D Edit: Fixed image URL Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live

I was wondering the same thing myself. The only reason I could think of is, "because he can". Not so sure of that. I don't know whether he "showed off" with a low pull but nothing was shown on video so can he be accused of grandstanding? Only BASE jumpers (and some skydivers) are going to know it was a BASE rig. I've uploaded the relevant part of this programme to Skydivingmovies.com CNN Journalist Richard Quest faces up to his fear of heights by doing a tandem skydive. First he goes in the Airkix wind tunnel in Milton Keynes in preparation. Then he does a tandem from a balloon over Austria accompanied by Felix Baumgartner.
