  1. The bridle attachment point on my Crossfire2 is a metal ring and the bridle also has a metal ring on it. A meticulous rigger once put a bungee in such a configuration around the two rings so that no canopy material could be pinched and potentially damaged between the metal on metal. I'm trying to reconfigure this and it's like one of those logic puzzles as I can't figure it out! Call me stupid, but can someone please carefully explain (diagrams would be good) how to do this? I think it is some sort of simple figure of eight but for the life of me I can't seem to do it! Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live

Paul, Your trip coincides with the monthly London Skydiver's Piss-Up at the Montagu Pyke, in the West End. As the name implies, it's mostly skydivers but there will be at least one BASE jumper there (me) and maybe a few more. Also try on the UK BASE jumping board to arrange a hook up. 4. Which is it, students or A certificate (no such thing as licenses in the UK)? According to Section 2 (Designation and Classification of Parachutists) Para 1 (General) Sub-Para 1.1 of the British Parachute Assocation Operations Manual, a student is someone below A certificate. According to Section 8 (Parachuting Limitations) Para 4 (Opening Heights) of the Ops Manual, the minimum opening heights for main parachutes are: 4.1. Student Parachutists jumping round parachutes 2,000ft AGL 4.2. Student Parachutists jumping ram-air parachutes 3,000ft AGL 4.3. FAI ‘A’ Certificate (Red) parachutists and above 2,000ft AGL 4.4. Student Tandem Parachutists 5,000ft AGL 4.5. FAI `C’ Certificate (Red) holders, on displays 1,500ft AGL Although these are minimums Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live

  12. By whom? Pilot? Jumpmaster? Experienced wingsuit jumper? Someone who knows you? I'm curious that a pilot would declare an aircraft emergency serious enough for 9 on board to get out (did anyone else stay in? if so, why? were they also told to? or did they elect to? If they elected to stay on board, what was their reason?) and yet someone instructed an experienced parachutist to stay on board? What was the nature of the emergency that you felt your chances were better staying on board? Have you ever had an unstable exit in a wingsuit? If so, then you have something to work in, for the next time this situation arises and you have less of a choice. As Ed said, have a plan before you get on the plane. Glad you (and everyone else) made it! Do I know the pilot? Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live
  13. There is always an exception. Same thing happened to me two weeks ago (nice one Danny), that's why I said "almost". Never say never :-D Nobody likes a smart arse :-P Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live
  14. "A short plane ride away"? Would make a great competition, a sort of elongated hit and chug. I live approximately 20 miles from Luton; what with travel to the airport (including parking and transport to terminal), check in, flying time, disembarkation (assuming all you have is hand luggage), travelling to a dropzone (either by picking up a vehicle yourself or via public transport), checking in at the dropzone, buying tickets, manifesting, getting on a load, jumping and landing, I wonder what the minimum time that could be done in, assuming the weather is okay (it can be ropey from Sweden to Spain). To make it worthwhile, it has to be long weekends. On an average UK holiday allowance of 25 days, with other events and commitments, how many long weekends can one seriously do? Also, there is no swooping in tunnels :-( What worries me more, is that once prices rise, they tend not to drop again. Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live
  15. The BPA document is not rules, but merely recommendations. The final decision lies with the CCI (although BMIs/PFIs may help with their assesment). I was going to say something flippant (I've had a beer or two) like the 22nd is a monday and you will have missed the course or by me a beer, but I will say this: Flying a wingsuit is relatively easy. However, the most common mistakes made by fledglings are: - flying a poor pattern. As I said, flying a wingsuit is relatively easy. Maintaining a good pattern whilst doing so seems to be the tricky bit. This is why we require very current and/or experienced jumpers. - rushing deployment. Deployment is initiated at approximately twice the altitude and half the speed of normal freefall jumps so there is no rush. - arching. This one is more relevant to the experienced jumpers, especially those who have done a lot of sausage grabbing. Whilst not dangerous, it is a hard habit to break and kind of defeats the object of wingsuit flying. - asymmetry/looking down on exit. After deployment, the exit is the second most important part of the skydive. I can (almost) guarantee that you (or anyone else) will not do their first wingsuit jump exactly as planned/briefed. If you do, I will buy the beer! £575 does seem excessive. Using xe.com, the BirdMan list price of $849/€649 equates to £486/448. Where did you order it from? 21. I received some random spam (from Interactive In vestor - I had agreed to it) that caught my eye, for Risk Placement Services who deal with special risks. Might be worth a try. No point lying to the insurance company; if you go in and you didn't tell them you jumped, they won't pay out, so either tell them and pay up or get them to exclude it. Let us know if they give you a decent quote. Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live

At least then maybe that this forum can stop purporting to be a forum for those thinking about getting into BASE.
