  3. Section 6 Paragraph 4 (Instruments) Sub-Para 4.2 of the BPA Operations Manual states: Alti watches such as the Casio and Suunto ones are not designed for skydiving and are sensitive instruments i.e. they are likely to read incorrectly with rapid fluctuations in air pressure. Therefore such watches contravene the rules and you should not pass a flight-line check if it is your primary means of determining your altitude. There are good reasons why important readings in aviation are given by dials i.e. the ability to quickly determine the value in a stressful environment. I have a Suunto Metron which I do wear skydiving but only as a backup to my regular alti. I find it very accurate when under canopy. It is very easy for it to be switched out of the altitude mode e.g. by bulk of a velcro cuff or the flapping of a baggy jumpsuit, and it's certainly a lot more difficult to switch it back, especially in a stressfull moment where you are better off concentrating on your track and wave-off. 4. Nice video. Don't forget you are allowed to smile in freefall! :-P Nicely edited to make it look like a 30 second canopy ride for the cameraman! I could hardly spot the join! :-P

    British program

Didn't catch the first one, but I did the second. The BASE/skydiving bits, I mean the Felix bits, are available on SkydivingMovies.com (26.3 MB) Requires Windows Media Player
  9. I copied the results into the attached XL spreadsheet. I've added calculations for speed, average time and average speed. According to Addendum B (Speed Course) Para 1 (Dimensions) Sub-para 1.1.1.1. Competition Course of the rules, the length for Ultra class should be 220 feet. This is set-up as a reference in cell A1 called CourseDistance which you can change if it is wrong. Also used a fps to mph factor of 0.6818 which is stored in cell A2 with the name FpsMphFactor which you can also change. Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live

  11. It could be a routine. Why not formalise it and check that everyone's chest-strap is correctly routed before boarding the plane? Why risk the chance of somebody catching it before it's too late? This sort of thing shouldn't happen, but it does. Glad it was caught this time. 12. Sorry Shane, it's not totally user-friendly. I expect everyone to know what to do, but then I wrote it! To draw a single graph, click the icon down the left hand side of the table. To draw multiple graphs, select the check box on the right hand side of the table for each one and click the "Submit Query" button at the bottom. Controls: Page controls how many records to return and paginates the results returned Units: fairly self-explanatory; imperical or metric and TAS/SAS Database: Select differnet sources of data Display: Select the columns to be displayed on the table Speed Comp is for speed Skydiving Competitions and encompasses: Pair: Is for pairing up 2 ProTracks as used in Speed Skydiving competitions Jump: Which round of the comp Who: The jumpre making the speed dive Sort: Fairly self-explanatory One day I'll put some instructions on how to use it on the website! Hope that helps. Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live

    BASE numbers

The is a very partial list at TheBasePoint.com of those eschewing anonymity. 836 was thanked on the BASEBoard recently so that's the latest definite one. Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live
  15. Had a PM from one of the British participants and Brian Vacher has posted on uk.rec.skydiving to say that all the Brits have qualified ("make four out of six clean runs through a 185 foot course carving left, first 100 feet over water.") Nice one! Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live

    Smoking Pants?

Outstanding! I've mirrored this file to SkydivingMovies.com I used QuickTime to play this but it was a bit jerky. Anyone know where I can get an mp4v codec for use with Media Player?
  18. Hi Rick, Are you sure it's not Cool & Groovy Evolution 2000s being used not ProTracks? I thought I saw an RE rig with this. This is an advantage of using the Evo200 since it doesn't have an interface so it would be more difficult to tamper with i.e. remove evidence of jumps,as you could do with a ProTrack. With it being more difficult to change, access to the unit is not so much of an issue? Also, people favour ProTracks and Neptunes over Evo2000s so they may be reasonably cheap and easy to pick up. I can't remember where it was attached on the rig I saw, I think in the warning label on the back-pad, but you are probably familiar with that and you are looking for somewhere less accessible. An alternative would the Vigil AAD since that allows you to download information from the data logger such as number of jumps. Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live
  19. It looks like your are wearing a Performance Variable Omega with a hand-deploy PC? I thought a Skyray required a ripcord and sprung-loaded PC? Are you just trying it on for size? Have the wings lowered or the body narrowed compared to previous models? It almost looks like you could reach behind to hand deploy a PC on that. Problem with spaces in the link...I thought that one had been solved ages ago? 23. Would you do it again? (Especially considering the outs at Empuria!) Do you know how much repatriation costs? Could you cover it? Could your parents? Or wouldn't you mind spending the next X months in a hospital where you don't speak the language until you are recovered enough to travel home "normally". Researching the withdrawl of BASE jumping cover by a certain UK underwriter and the increase in risk category for skydiving by another broker certainly has me wondering... 24. This relates to the When skydiving abroad do you take out Travel Insurance that insures jumping? poll I just posted. Would the fact that you were unable to cover yourself for medical expenses, search and rescue and repatriation when skydiving abroad, and risk saddling you and your family with huge debts for a significant portion of life, dissuade you from travelling and jumping in a foreign country? And why? Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live
  25. Interested in see attitudes to insurance in the sport. Due to the prohibitive cost of medical treatment in the US, it is highly recommended for Europeans to take out Travel Insurance that covers treatment and repatriation for skydiving related accidents (although some still risk it and do not do so). Within the Europe Union, medical treatment is assured, but it is still worth taking out inurance for Search and Rescue purposes and repatriation. Is this a global situation? If you don't take out insurance because you chose not to, can you explain why. If you are already covered, by your work for example, please indicate yes and follow-up as such. Thanks. Edited to add: If you vote in this poll, please could you also answer the If you could no longer obtain Travel Insurance that covered skydiving, would you stop travelling abroad to jump poll?
