After 2 motor swaps(first motor i put in was blown before it went in) my car is running. I still have to mess with the power steering pump a little bit but other than that everything is fine with NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT! It feels really good knowing that after doing a motor swap for the first time by myself that i can actually do it now. Plus doing it twice gave me some practice...now i can get it done in less than a day(remove and install). If anyone needs a swap donein the Jacksonville area and they dont feel like messing with a shop let me know. I have a 2 1/4 ton hoist that i now own.:D I can finally make it to the dz to continue my aff training! For those of you that do not know...Long story short I took over payments on my 98 Eclipse Spyder knowing the motor was going to blow...time being the only variable. So it finally did. So I searched for 2 months for either the Spyder 4G64 or the Galant 4G64. Finally find a Galant motor. Go through the swap procedure( first time ever doing a swap by myself). It took me two days to get it out and three days to get it in. Make sure everything is connected and where it should be only to find out that the replacement motor had bent valves. I should have known being that the timing belt was lose..but I didn't notice it until after it was already in. The good news is I had that motor out in just under three hours...so i am getting more proficient..for at least half the swap. I have a 90 day warranty so I'm taking it back on Friday and this time making sure the replacement motor runs. I plan on taking the oil pan, valve cover, timing belt cover off, and if i suspect anything may be wrong ill take the head off too...all before i leave the salvage yard. Im refuse to get screwed again. So yeah...thats the story so far with my car "Age has absolutely nothing to do with knowledge, learning, respect, attitude, or personality." -yardhippie "Fight the air, and the air will kick your ass!!! WEll..its actually based off of the Korean and Japanese for of Daito-ryu-Aiki-Jujutsu. Choi Yong Sul developed it during the colonial period of Korea. There are a few others diciplines which are closely related to hapkido..bit it is the most prominent. I didnt even know the name of the show. I just caught it while flipping through the channels laying in bed. I didnt catch the whole show but i caught enough to peak my interest in the discipline. I've never had formal dojo training. I had a few friends that did in high school that taught me a few things..but nothing as far as one technique..just basic punches and kicks. Its a good start i guess...but im not going into it thinking im shit hot or anything. Im just going to act as if i dont know anything...and if what i do know helps..than that would be awesome! thanks for the reply. I wanted people's perspective that have done it. According to the research that i have done...when starting out as a student it focuses on the pressure points and how to manipulate your opponents body. As you advance in the dicipline then you are taught the proper techniques for power punches and kicks. Im really excited to start it. I cant wait! Im seriously considering starting Hapkido classes. I have always had an interest in martial arts and i watched a tv program yesterday about two fighters that were tasked with learning the form. It intrigued me enough to do some research on it. I even suggested to one other just today too. I see it as a fun and exciting challenge. If anyone else here is a student i would like to hear about your experiences. Thanks!

the motor was hot when she decided to turn the car into a personal watercraft. It warped the rod. then...as time went on the stress of the motor just caused the rod to snap. Suprisingly it lasted 2 1/2 months before it finally blew! Picture 1: "Y" crack on the bottom intake side of the block approx 2 1/2 inches long. Picture 2: 1 inch hole on the bottom exhaust side of the block Picture 3: 2 severely bent valves. 2 slightly bent valves. Picture 4: #1 rod assembly. The only thing still intact are the piston rings. I didnt take pictures of the crank or cylinder wall but they are severely damaged also. I only put it back on there to get it out of the way and not take up any more room in the shed other than the room i have already taken up....which right now is about half of it with car parts. The reason why im concerned that i messed something up in the transmission is when the rod snapped i was doing about 20 mph and i was shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. The clutch was still in when it popped and the motor completely seized because the bottom end of the rod wedged itself against the cylinder wall. Im thinking the sudden stop of the crank might have bent something on the transmission considering it went from roughly 25 mph to complete crank stop in less than a second. It is a manual. When i turned the crank when the tranny was still attached it turned fine. I just want to make sure everything is normal with the tranny before i put a new motor on in and install it. It took me being a novice about 9 hours in time to remove everything. Ok..brief background on this motor and tranny. The motor took on about half a gallon of water due to the driver at the time being a completely stupid blond. Total damage is 1 broke rod, bearings shattered, 1 inch hole in the front of the block and a spiderweb crack on the backside of the block, 8 bent valves in the head. Im thinking there is tranny damage also. So i started the engine removal process. Got everything out. I took the starter gear and flywheel off and put them back in the bell housing until i get a replacement motor. I manually turned it and its not spinning perfectly round. I took a video of it and put it online to help with the diagnosis. Any advice? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fIDrxg8ej2w "Age has absolutely nothing to do with knowledge, learning, respect, attitude, or personality." -yardhippie "Fight the air, and the air will kick your ass!!! as long as the last number is the same as your rim size...ie.....17 will fit on a 17 inch rim...16 on a 16 inch rim...you will be fine.
