  1. Or you can look at it as now there are no excuses for the Republicans. They have 2 years to get things running better and they can't blame the stagnate Senate . . . .

    Guy Fawkes Day

I just got back from a weekend visit to London. I never would have imagined that in a large city they would sell and allow the use of fireworks. Perhaps it's the fact that it rains so much that the chance of a fire breaking out is very slim . . .. Only in London can you light off fireworks but can't have a real fireplace in your house!
  3. For a while I wouldn't say anything at all. The only newspaper that covered it was Ottawa, IL and I felt it was best. Since the Chicago Tribune started covering incidients family members often call before I have a chance to tell them.
  4. I know this is available as an option. Has anyone had this done to their canopy? What's your opinion? Thanks, Matt

    Life Savers

I've heard that stress causes halitosis. Then again this could be totally untrue.
  6. I talked to State Farm as well and was told that all of my skydiving gear was covered by my renters policy as long as I was not using it to earn income. I would have to take out an additional policy if I wanted the equipment covered while I was earning money.
  7. The manufacturer isn't a problem. I'm just frustrated because I'm online today instead of jumping!
  8. How frustrating. Instead of jumping a demo canopy this weekend I spent today waiting for the postman to deliver it a day late. By the time it came there wasn't a chance to get it put in my container and drive to the dropzone. Tomorrow . . . rain. Oh well - there's always next weekend
  9. Just did the same thing but went wireless. About $250 for the wireless router and 2 wireless network cards. Have Netgear equipment, works fine so far and took less than an hour to set up.
  10. Combining the WEB encryption for privacy and limiting access to a set of MAC addresses should be enough for most home networks. Just my 2 cents, but what do I know - I'm in sales. ;)
  11. Having 2 computers for 2 people living together is nearly useless if only one could have access to the net at a time. That said the entire set-up was under $200 but I already had a wireless network card laying around.
  12. Surfing the web on wireless DSL in the condo rocks! I'll drink my own beer for my first wireless post to dz.com -mob
  13. Several weeks ago I updated my e-mail address in my profile. The most recent dropzone mail went to the old address and not the new one. No big deal, just trying to help out.,
  14. I hadn't really planned to jump last weekend. For a change my social calendar was full of non-jumping activities and I was content to stay home. Somehow (read - I was bored and surfing the web) I found out that there was going to be a Casa in Hinckley and decided to venture out to Chicagoland Skydiving. I made my first tandem there 5 years ago and was looking forward to a return visit. I picked up the waiver saturday morning and made it about 15 feet in search of a place to sign my life away before somebody said "Are you mattb?" I did a double take unsure if they were talking to me. I don't post a lot here and didn't plan on being recognized. Turns out Wildblue who I met @ Summerfest 2001 was there with Val. The random encounter made the day a lot more fun. It was my second time jumping a tailgate (and first since AFP), my first Casa jumps, and an all around good time. Unfortunately I didn't make it back on Sunday, something about being out until 4 AM left me wanting to sit on the couch and do nothing. Just wanted to say it was great bumping into you and hope to meet more people soon. Matt
  15. Since I started this conversation I wanted to clarify something - - - I was not trying to criticize any of the individuals involved. I just thought there might be another site with results or somebody who was physically at SDC would see this and post. -matt
  16. Related thread for those that are interested http://www.skydivechicago.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=311
  17. Perhaps it is just my computer but no results have been posted since Sunday? Anybody know who won the remaining catagories? Just wondering

    e-bay

I've only used e-bay once - I sold my truck on it. (Yeah, start small.) The reserve was met 2 days before the end of the auction and nothing happened. In the last 46 seconds the price went up nearly $600 (25% of the selling price).
  19. Unique question . . . new things DZs are rated include wireless internet access and cell coverage. Yes - ATT Wireless works. If you are coming from Chicago service will be sketchy between Morris and Ottawa as it alternates between Home & Roam. At the DZ my phone stays on roam and the cell phone tower can be seen from the airport so the signal is quite strong.
  20. Background - I own a Safire 189 loaded between 1.2/1 and 1.3/1. I have over 100 jumps on the canopy with no issues other than 1 malfuction (line twists). This weekend on my 2nd jump the canopy opened up normal but immediately began to turn to the right. I unstowed both brakes, pumped the toggles, and the turn continued. I looked at the lines, canopy, etc. for something wrong but could not diagnose the problem. I decided I would be able to land the canopy and did uneventfully. On the ground I assume the problem was uneven leg straps. One strap had come untucked and was flapping around during freefall. Next jump - same problem. I'm flying in half brakes on one side in order to fly strait. I triple-checked the leg straps and know they aren't the problem. I look harder for the source of the problem and think that one of the steering lines is tangled at the point it connects to the canopy. I cautiously fly back and land uneventfully. On the ground I find a rigger friend and we inspect the canopy. We measure line lengths, inspect the top skin, bottom skin, ribs, etc. Nothing looks wrong. We pay close attention to the steering line connection points. Can't find anything wrong. Talk to a master rigger - he's heard of Safire's developing a turn over time but nothing so sudden or dramatic. Decided to do a hop-n-pop for a test jump. Canopy flies perfect. Exit at 9,000 (pilot forgot about the hop and pop for a while), deploy at 5k and play with front/rear risers, toggle turns, etc. No signs of the problem. Sunday no problems all day. Anybody ever experience anything like this? My guess is that a steering line was tangled at the connection point somehow and it came undone as we laid out the canopy for inspection. Interested if anybody has other ideas. Matt
  21. It's late and this is truly a nit - but 64K of RAM on a Pentium II computer? I had 64K of RAM on an Apple II. OK - I'll end this useless post now.
