I live in Chicago. If I went off road and end up in jail. I used to have a Jimmy, go off road, hunting, etc. In a few more years I'll be out of the city and able to do that again. For now I just want luxury and to sit up high.

If you're buying a Land Rover - expect to pay out the ass. I'd never actually buy but am looking forward to the next time Hertz upgrades me so I can tool around the airport and hotel parking lot in a vehicle made for going off road.

Land Rover Discovery Hertz gave me one last week and I've been drooling non-stop since then. I want to go blow $40k on a truck even though I live in Chicago.

A letter from the airline doesn't mean anything to the TSA. If the TSA doesn't like it - it doesn't matter what the airline or captain says. And the American public so overwhelmingly thought that airport security should be a federal job . . .

A good travel agent is a lifesaver. They aren't cheap (I think mine is $60 a trip) but if you are flying multi-city one-way legs you can save a lot of money. Somehow she can book 7 day advance fares, 1 day in advance, put me on Delta flights as if I was travelling in a large group and got their discount, etc. Usually not needed for round trips. My 2 cents

Should SBC have to sell lines to MCI and AT&T for a loss?
mattb replied to Slowfaller's topic in The Bonfire
Perhaps SBC is paying too much to maintain the lines? Everytime I've had to deal with them it's taken multiple visits from a union (read expensive) employee to come and solve a simple issue due to somebody's incompetence. Either the work order wasn't right, they lineman came too late to have access to the basement of the apartment that he needed, etc. etc. An old friend worked for SBC in college - his stories of waste, laziness, and incompetence rival that of a DMV employee. Wait a sec - don't you already work at a dropzone? ? ?

My 2 cents: If there is a fee: make it annual, not monthly. (think magazine subscription) I generally find myself ok with sites that have content I enjoy and changes daily paying $20-40 per year. wsj.com, nytimes cross puzzles, etc. That being said - talk back isn't payworthy content. If the site has to go to pay level I would want to see fresh skydiving-related content that was was both entertaining and educational and not just the forums. (However, several frequent posters e.g. billvon, hooknswoop, etc. are more than qualified to contribute this content)

A better poll - how many do you own?

Go ahead - underestimate Marquette like Kentucky did. Marquette vs. Syracuse Monday night is my prediction.

One trick that helped when I was learning to land my Safire 189 was to wrap the brakelines around my fingers once so that when I flared I was sure of flaring all the way. Not needed but some people think it helps - especially if you have short arms.

But can you name all 6 without going to google (or your corp of cadets reference book)?

No coffee is forgivable but on New Year's Even no champagne in first class ? ? ? That was a downright tragedy! (just kidding)

5 pictures for $25 seems a bit sharp. This isn't wedding photography and I think that one time jumpers would pay the $25 for a roll of film and/or CD with pictures but don't want to pay per picture.

Flyaway wind tunnel? in vegas?
mattb replied to midwaychris's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Go to the tunnel and have fun - it's a nice break from casinos. I went when I was about your stage - still in AFP and didn't enjoy it because I expected to benefit from my dozen skydives. The body position is slightly different than skydiving and I spent 3 or 4 of my five "sessions" in the tunnel just working on getting stable. It was fun - but nothing like skydiving. Matt -
Out of curiousity why not use a Samurai for cross country jumps? Not that I do a lot of those (1 in 200 jumps about) but does it descend that quickly? Any issues getting back from a long spot? oh, i do and have used my sam for crosscountry jumps, but something big and really glidy will get one further.... i'm talking take it out 15 miles crosscountry :) which a sam COULD do if the winds were right.... but my ass uder a sabre 230 is gonna glide farther than my ass under a sam150 me thinks. The 230 may glide further but you might also fall asleep on the ride. If you want a sunday cruise in the family sedan and 3 beers - go with the big canopy for the cross country. If you want to take the sports car out for a long spin . . . . .
